    Date of acquisition:
Both head and body are second-hand.
    Reason for choice:
I fell in love with the head. The smaller, realistic eyes appealed to me, as well as the lovely teeth. ♥
    Best Points:
I love how delicately the head is sculpted; there are tiny details and crevices on his lips. The teeth part is detachable and wonderful, it's always such a pleasure to paint this doll.
    Worst Points:
Well, at the moment I'm a little displeased with the body, as it yellowed more than the head did, so they no longer match. But I'll soon buy him a new one from Fantasydoll. Otherwise I have no complaints about his current body, it's wonderful.
  • Eyes:
Enchanted Doll brown urethane in 14mm
CustomCritterDesigns 8" warm brown faux fur
    Favourite colours:
    Everything but pinks.
    Fashion style(s):
Casual style, I'd say. And warm clothes, especially.

  • Name story:
Jackson Aubrey Knife. I first picked his stage name, which is The Son of Knives, and then built his real name around it. The last name is Knife on purpose, it holds a special meaning in his back story. Aubrey I just always wanted to use for a doll, and Jackson popped into my head because I like the way it works with the rest of his name.
He's mostly called Jack though, to differentiate him from his father with the same first name.

    Jack's story:
Jackson Aubrey Knife was born in Longford, Ireland, as an only child to a couple who were alcoholics and addicts. And extremely abusive. As soon as Jack was old enough to understand, he was told that he was a mistake - and that now he'd have to pay for that. His parents made him do all the house work, barely letting him go outside. Jack was beaten up for any tiny mistakes he made, or locked in a cupboard for long periods of time without food. Their favourite method of punishment was to cut Jack with knives - ironically, since their last name was Knife.
He was allowed to attend school long enough for him to learn how to read and write, and they kept moving houses, mostly because all the money went to drugs and alcohol instead of rent, but also because they didn't want anyone to notice the abuse Jack was suffering from.

Jackson developed a coping mechanism, which allowed him to block out the worst of it; whenever they were inflicting violence on him, he would retreat into a fantasy world inside his head. In this world everything was marvelous and wonderful, and there were all sorts of magical creatures keeping him company. He didn't feel pain there, so it was a very comfortable place for him.
But even with this coping mechanism, Jack found a limit and eventually ran away when he was 14. He lived in the streets for a while, running away from the police, fearing that they might take him back - but he was unaware of the fact that both his parents had passed away from an overdose just a few days after he ran away.

In the streets Jack gets introduced to music by buskers, and this opens up a whole new world to him. To everyone's surprise, he learns to play the guitar just by listening to others play. Then one day, as Jack is playing a busker's guitar and humming along to a melody he made up, he catches the attention of a man named Andrew Kingsley. Kingsley recognizes the talent the young boy has, and doesn't want it to go to waste - and after hearing about Jack's background, he then "adopts" Jack.
To the public they introduce Jack has Kingsley's nephew, who lives above the pub, which Kingsley owns. And for the food, lodging and care, Jack pays back by performing in the pub every now and then, under the name of The Son of Knives.

Jack never did learn how to come down from his fantasy world - even though the pain is now gone, he kind of lingers somewhere in between of reality and the world inside his head. He has some difficulty to tell apart things that are real and what are not, but to an outsider, he mostly just seems quirky and delightfully weird, and he keeps making the strangest of friends, everything from aliens to gods - and not just inside his head.

Personality: Weird, but charming. Jack's a person you can never have a normal conversation with - he's very absent-minded, jumps from a subject to another, doesn't really know how to answer questions and just sometimes forgets to answer to you, when he's busy staring at the air and imagining faeries. But he's intelligent and surprisingly good at reading people. He's also very loyal and kind, and couldn't harm a fly.

Music, learning new instruments, the smell of cats and old books, the rush hour, birds, people in funny clothes, rain, collecting toys. Life.
Dislikes: Knives and crowds, rude people. Doesn't understand computers.

    Additional information:
Jack is the best friend of Aed, an alien from another world, who happened to come to Earth by a weird coincidence. They met while Aed was in the hospital in a coma, and Jack just came there to visit him, despite not having ever met him before.
Jack's musical talent is partly explained by his synesthesia - he sees music as colours and shapes. He composes all the music he plays and constantly picks up new instruments to learn how to play them.
