☆~~ Granado Doll Discussion Part 18 ~~☆

Oct 22, 2019

    1. @Quiet and Insane @Sasha of the Crows Thank you so much, guys! I still can't believe that he's actually here and that he's mine. I've always loved the Uriel sculpt, but couldn't think of a character for him.

    2. Curious if anybody has used or trying to use the Granado Custom Doll Service?

    3. So does Granado ever do 45-ish models of Uriel? I love the sculpt, but am strictly come mini ;)

      So strange they do 31 mature dolls, but not 40-something.... I guess I can't stick a 31 or a 'regular' head on a 46cm body :(

    4. I was quite busy for the past weeks and hadn't given the dolls a decent photoshoot in a while. Our local dealer did say my Noah head is currently in transit, but considering the state of China post, I don't know when to expect it. If he does scale better with my other male dolls than my Michael, he will be taking over the character. Not without a lot of regret on my part, by the way, because Guórén has been a Granado Michael from the very beginning and he really rocks the part. :sorry

    6. Just got the measurements from Granado for the Adagio 70. I'm sure they'll be on the site now, but here they are anyway:

    7. I am definitely interested in this body. I wonder if it will fit the smaller heads like Garden. I am still in love with the Garden head but don't like the bodies it is available for. I do prefer the thigh joint the Vigor body has. I am kind of waiting in the wings for them to make a vigor body that is the right size for the Garden head, or vice versa...

    8. Since it has the choice for either neck size, I'm hoping it will work with the smaller heads. I was going to get a Noah head, and they advised that they were working on a Noah for the 70 body, so I'm suspecting it will work with the 70 and under heads. They're working on my order now, and I'll get pics up when they get here.

I intend to mod his thigh to as close to the Vigor as I can get. (I can't believe I'm even considering it, but there y'go. I've got both bodies coming. I've got the tiny Adagio and Vigor coming in as well. I'm going to try the mod on it first.) It was the only downside to this body (tho I'd've liked a three part torso) I'm really hoping it works, because the sheer beauty of this body is so perfect for the OC I'm shelling, but he's a (low-G) gymnast and so really needs that flexibility.

    9. That is good news! I am interested in your modifications and your impressions on the things you ordered. Please post pictures and such here! I want to get this last doll for myself, but it's such a big purchase and I'm hesitant if, for example, the head won't fit. The lack of a thigh joint is an issue for me. I appreciate your legwork, pun intended!!

    10. :D :D :D I've been looking to shell these two characters since before I discovered BJD's and just couldn't find the bodies. The Adagio was the turning point (and the 15% sale :D) and that lack of thigh joint was the only thing that made me hesitate. Then I watched some vids on adding the joint, and I think it's doable, tho I really want to try to duplicate the Vigor body's joint with apoxie rather then just inserting a tube. I want more than just the rotation. I want the kneeling flexibility as well. Relative size is also a problem. I'm probably going to try to shave a little off the small adagio (a little off the legs won't affect the overall proportions enough to matter), and some off the large Vigor (I think that can come off the body) but that's a bit more problematic than the thigh joint. I might just give the slightly too short bodies thick soles on their shoes! :D

Fortunately, the rather comic book, i.e. elongated proportions, companies tend to use do give us some options!

    11. @allurose I also think they have a tendency to think of the facial sculpts as particular types of people. They see Garden as a monk, hence the Zen body. You might try suggesting it to them. Since this is all initially done on computer now, it's possible they could create a Garden head for the Vigor body. (easier to upsize a head than downsize a whole body) I am interested in this tendency to make the Adagio in so many different sizes. It could be they decided people just didn't want such a graceful body on their largest doll, hence the 70. But the Vigor is an amazing body for those who seriously want pose-ability, and it would really make sense to make it available in less extreme size ranges.

    12. @Vindalootoo You have no idea HOW GLAD I am to read that someone wants thigh joints for the other Granado bodies, too. It's pretty much non-negotiable to me where my primary male doll is concerned. I would have invested in the entire Granado package for him if not for the lack of thigh joints. I could still fix poseability issues on legs with no thigh slits, but I am still too chicken to mod thigh joints. :(

Still no news where my Noah head is at, so here's just more Michael spam with his topless hybrid body.

    13. You know I'm always here for Michael spam! :D
I did have a Michael for a while, but then I decided an Enoch would work better for the OC I had in mind. Similarly, I had an Andrew who I reshelled into a Neptune. My Mads is the only one who's not been swapped out for another Granado sculpt.

    14. Granado Guys are either going to love me or hate me! I've passed on the gist of this thread, re: mobility joints and a match for the Garden head and a medium build (Adagio/Vigor) body. I also confessed I plan to Mod Adagio's legs. I hope they don't cancel my order! :D :D :D But as I told them, I'm too old to wait around for a more perfect body.

@AntarelNefertili Your Michael is yummy. I wish he'd been available when I made my order. I'm so glad they sell bodies and heads a la carte, so to speak. I wish all companies would.

    15. I did ask them about the head/body combo I was interested in and received basically a "we don't have that! :)" non-answer. I know it's possible! And they do keep offering bodies in different sizes, so I am hopeful. I wish hybrids were easier to make...I've done it before, but now I'm at the place in my hobby where I don't want to muck around and have something not look right. I don't have the time to fuss. I just want to have the complete doll.

I've looked at many brands of dolls and haven't found a head I like as much as that Garden head, and I love that it has a closed-eye version. I want them both.

    16. @allurose It certainly is a very different and unique look! I'm interested to see the character you have in mind.

    17. @Quiet and Insane I'm honestly oh so conflicted with my Michael right now. Liek I REALLY REALLY (seriously REALLY) love his current sculpt, but his petite size is causing me a lot of difficulties and hilarity when in group photos with the other guys. I want the 75cm ver. Noah reshell to work, but at the same time, my sentimental side won't be too sad if the experiment went bust. I wonder if Granado will ever re-release their old petite sculpts into more "standard" sizes, haha.

@Vindalootoo Fingers crossed they won't cancel! And hopefully, if they see that your mod works, they may consider implementing a similar option. I want my guy to be able to do the "Indian sit" and to be able to curl up into a fetal position. =)))

    18. @AntarelNefertili - I understand that feeling. My #1 doll has a very large head compared to his companions and it looks out of scale, but I'm so attached to him I'm trying to suspend my disbelief and make it work somehow.
I really love Noah's look. I did ask them if he could be put onto smaller bodies but his neck joint is too wide. He would have been great for a re-shell I'm trying to make work, but ah well...hybrids am I right?

    19. @AntarelNefertili The response from Granado was rather sweet:

hmm you mean our doll bodies doesn't pose well? We thought our dolls' posing is one of the advantage.
But of course you can mod the body if you want. This is one of the joy in this hobby. We will not stop you!

I tried to reassure them that it was just the mobility joint that keeps them from doing the curled poses that was in question, but I haven't heard back yet. I don't know how many are actually there, From their comments, Crocus seems to do most of the work, but I hope he has a support crew! But the last thing I want is to make him feel bad! It would just make so much difference if the mobility joint was always an option. I really don't understand why they don't all have it. and not just Granado. It doesn't affect the stability of the thigh, and it makes such a difference in the posability. Ah, well.

I do hope that the move to make Noah in both 70 and 75 cm size will be a trend. I suspect the ability to make the adjustments using 3D printer is only just being explored.

@Quiet and Insane It might be a new thing since you talked with them, but when I was ordering the 70Adagio, I was going to order a Noah head, but they advised me to wait because they were going to make a smaller Noah head for the 70cm size. And I am getting the 10.5cm neck on the adagio

    20. @Vindalootoo - I actually already have a different head I bought off the marketplace here on the way! Thank you for the heads up though! :) I might still try to see if a spare head is within my budget. ;)
