☆~~ Granado Doll Discussion Part 18 ~~☆

Oct 22, 2019

    1. The one on the left is Stephen, an old Soom Lazule in oriental on the 70Adagio in New Natural. When the rain stops and I can redo his faceup, it will blend much better. But I saw the head on the MP and had to have it for him. The other is Wesley, R.Dean Jei on windswept 75Vigor. I was delighted at the match on that, as it was all done blind. I actually like the head sizes a bit better than the Noahs that I got with the bodies. Relatively speaking, they're just slightly larger. The 70Adagio will sometimes double for a younger Wesley. I'll probably use the Noah that came on the 75 Vigor. if I can mod the neck a bit, as I got the slimmer neck on the Adagio. I'll probably sell the 70 Noah, as much as I like it. but I'd recommend it for a 65cm body, for my own personal aesthetic. If it's OK to post them here, I'll do full body shots soon. The fit on the head is also a bit cleaner. I love Crocus' sculpts, but the Noah heads had quite an overlap in back. Head movement on both is great, with better downward motion than the Noahs. Too early for me to figure why. Haven't investigated the relative engineering, but the Soom Lazule sits right on the dome of the neck, so gets full rotation, yet the line between head and neck remains pleasing.

This is the Noah head on Wesley

This is the boyz with their new heads (please ignore the goofy color on Stephen. I was just playing with pastels to figure what I was going to do when I can actually clean him up and do his faceup properly.)
The second pic is more accurate color. My camera is dying....And I haven't worked these images over yet.

    2. Wooo the Noah orders are coming in! I finally got mine too. Despite my still-strong attachment to my Granado Michael, I've gotten really sold on Granado Noah for the character now that I've seen the sculpt in person.

      Noah 75cm

...buuuuuut not everything fell into place. :sweat Whereas his previous Impldoll hybrid problem was pin-headedness, now it's the other end of the spectrum. His noggin' is even bigger than the previous record-holder in the crew, my DF-H Takumi Kazama, who has a circumference of 23cm but is mostly just a bulbous head instead of actually being BIG. Styling and photographic tricks can fix the discrepancy, but I'm now waiting for Granado to open a release of Noah's 70cm version before I jump on saving up for the 75cm body, since they did confirm with me that his 70cm ver has a head circumference of around 21.3cm.

    3. @Vindalootoo what do you think of the Adagio body? Posing, standing? My floating heads would like to know…

    4. @LupusDarkmoon - Wow Ásbjörn is stunning! I love his face up! :D
I have an Enoch in (accidental) Bronze. He was made in 2019 I think? This is Isilme, who is still yet to be modded and painted.

@AntarelNefertili - Ohhhh he looks so good! What a bummer that it's such a huge head! :(

    5. @Quiet and Insane I really love the tanned colors of Granado; a shame they'll burn a sizeable hole in my wallet if I went for tan all the way. ^_^' My Noah got ported nigh-immediately to a nearby faceup artist for airbrushing to fix the color mismatch. I'm still crossing my fingers that I could make things work somehow until I sort out the proportionality boo-hoos. I mean, I've managed to get by with a lot of camera tricks on my Michael for a long time, so what's stopping me now? XD

    6. ARGH! I had a three paragraph response and my computer crashed! Let's just say the jury is still out. I have absolutely nothing to base it on as these are the first big guys I've ever had my hands on and all my tinies are Fairyland, which are posing fools. They both, Vigor and Adagio, are futsy to balance standing, but I assume that's normal for something this heavy. (Any advice?) All I've done so far was for the box opening, when I'm concentrating more on telling the story than really showing the body off, but here are a couple of pics of him. I'll get a few more specifically to show his body and get them up in the next couple days. Again, I apologize for my dying camera's quality....

The upper left, Adagio is kneeling, very stable, Vigor is crosslegged. Lower left, again kneeling and twisting. I'm delighted with the shoulder and elbow flexibility. Stephen's a pretzel. He cuddles well, which is good. The two with Wiishu...placing his finger on W's nose and keeping it there was easy. I was careless about his left supporting arm/hand. That could have done much better.

As I say, I'll try to get more specific posing pics taken and up.

Oh, yes...forgot to put in here: In the minis, the new Ascent looks to have everything I planned to do to the Adagio. Sneaky Granado...I wrote to them when I was putting my order together, asking about a mobility joint in the Adagio and whether I could switch the legs between these two...and next thing I know, right on the tail of the notice that they were putting my order together...there's the Ascent with all the mods I'd planned! Slightly slimmer waist and peanut joint in the thigh! I've got one of the 31Ascents on order, and I'll be able to compare all the mini bodies. If they get good reviews on the mini, I suspect we'll see it in the 70ish range as well. (Gotta love computer modelling!)

    7. @AntarelNefertili
Oh, he does have a big noggin! I'm curious to see him next to Michael, if you ever get a chance to take pictures.
What color did you get your Noah in? o:

      @Quiet and Insane
Thank you! <3 I'll probably have to repaint him when he gets his own body, but that's okay as I think I can do some things better (also contemplating an actual beard and not just a painted one, since it's really supposed to be a bit longer/bushier)
Ahhhh, I saw him on a pic request thread and he's gorgeous. So ethereal, even if he's unpainted. Enoch is such a beautiful sculpt and I'm pretty sure he looks good in all the colors. Definitely looks good in bronze. :D

    8. My pleasure! I think I'm going to do this for all of my dolls. As I said on the thread, I've been frustrated at not being able to find this kind of information. I was surprised by what I was able to get out of him.

    9. @Vindalootoo Thank you for the review! I unfortunately have to push the Adagio down my wishlist because I don't want to dislocate hips just to get my guy to cross his legs. Please please Granado if you're reading this, the posing images should explain why we want those thigh peanuts so much for the big guys. If I ultimately go the 75cm Noah route instead of his 70cm version, I may have to risk it with an untested hybrid. I've already shortlisted several options, if worse comes to worst.

@LupusDarkmoon This is a bad photo I took before Noah got packed and sent off to the faceup artist, but it should give everyone an idea how big Noah is compared to Michael. I wasn't able to measure Noah's head circumference myself to confirm if it's really 22.8cm, but Michael is around 20-20.5cm. Pretty much explains why my Iplehouse Scarlet head looks sliiiightly bigger than him! Both my Michael and Noah are supposed to be New Normal, lol. Michael looks green because of the bad lighting, but I assure you he looks better irl.

    10. @AntarelNefertili - Tan and other dark r fantasy colours are a wallet-death sentence right now due to the extremely poor conversion rate. It sucks so much having to pay almost double the price for a doll. :(
Fingers crossed everything turns out well with your Noah! Camera tricks are always a handy thing to know, regardless. ;)

@LupusDarkmoon - Ooh I love it when people add "real" beards. I've been very tempted to do that with one of my dolls, but not had the time to give it a go just yet.
Aww, thanks! :D He does have a magnificent presence about him doesn't he? Perfectly befitting elven royalty! ;) I also have him in tan (which is what I originally ordered...but there were issues apparently. Ah well!)

    11. @Quiet and Insane I feel your pain on the dark/fantasy colours of resin and painful exchange rates. You want my immediate attention? Make the doll in a funky colour (or just grey if I'm being entirely honest). Want me to throw my money at you desperately? Do fantasy parts or something unique about the head sculpt.

    12. @AntarelNefertili
He does make Michael look so small. Poor Michael, he's surrounded by so many big heads now lol.
Noah looks so pink, he looks nothing like the New Normal shown on the site. I'm looking forward to seeing your faceup artist work their magic, and seeing him with the rest of the group when he's all painted. :'D

      @Quiet and Insane
I've never done it before, so I hope I can make it look nice. Though, thinking I might try to make one that's a piece that can be removed and put back on. I've got time to think about it, though, his body is on a loooong layaway lol. If you ever do give one of yours a 'real' beard, I hope you share it somewhere, I'd love to see. :)
You're welcome! And he does! I wish I had a character for Enoch in every color lmao. Do you have any pictures of your tan one? o:

    13. Can anyone here tell me where to get sheets of silicone suitable for kipping? I thought it would be an easy search, but I'm obviously missing some keywords.

    14. You mean flat sheets? Is there a reason you are not getting readymade kips? Just nosy.

    15. Yep. If you've got sheets, you can do body joints as well. And the Vigor Mobility thigh isn't round. Also, I have to believe it would be cheaper to cut you own. :D When I google "bjd kip" to order some, I just saw someone talking about cutting their own, but the link they gave isn't good any longer, and they didn't specify the type and thickness. I've never had a doll with them, but I'm liking the ones Granado put on them. Wiishu's ankles are now smooth as glass and he needs some hep! :D

    16. Has anyone ever heard of or seen a Newton? I've ordered his head for a hybrid and my measurements all say he oughta fit the body I have for him... But it's like he's nonexistent! I can't find owner pics.
I've got two Granado bodies but this will be the first time I keep a head- it's a perfect match for a vampire character of mine, going on a Volks SD Graffiti body.

    17. Wow. Where'd you order him from? He's always been "Sold out". I really wanted him for Wesley.

    18. Legend Dolls, the dealer, can sometimes get Granado heads that are limited or sold out elsewhere. Not sure how but they do.
