100% Permanent Face-Ups and Body Blushing?

Oct 2, 2009

    1. No, I like to have the option of change, even if I never use it, I don't want to give up the possibility of change.

    2. It would be awesome if I weren't so indecisive. It's always sad when that blushing I loved so much starts to chip or a fall scratches off some lashes, but I tend to restyle my dolls fairly frequently so permanent makeup would probably bore me. XD

That said, if I ever get a doll fancy enough to warrant an SDink faceup I'd be willing to spray super glue on 'em to keep it intact!

    3. i'd love to have a perma-faceup for my doll. ive already smudged her once (even though people say its not t

    4. good question! If it was a very VERY beautiful doll, without imperfections i may consider buying a doll that has perminent makeup. however i am not sure i would unless it was PERFECTION and just what i wanted

    5. What I would love would be permanent *basic* face-up and body blush. For me, this would be eyebrows, lips, eyelids, ears, and nose bridge in a light shade that added definition, and similar styling done on nipples muscles contours and hands/feet. If that could be made permanent, yes, as long as I could add and remove on top of it at will. That way I could darken things if I wanted to, or change the color concentrations, or add tattoos, or whatnot, and still be able to wipe it off without having to start again at a perfectly blank slate. I think that would be pretty nifty.

    6. Oh, EriChanHime, I second that idea :D That would help me so much :D

    7. I don't think I'd do either, at first I thought yes to body blushing but there's always a time when you might like to change something. Plus I think what draws me the most to ball joint dolls is how you can customize them. I love experimenting with my own makeup so I know that on my doll I'd like to experiment different faceups. I don't think I'd like to ever permanently like to wear makeup, I'm a very indecisive person so I tend to change my mind frequently :3

    8. Well I do hope that permanent faceup so that my dolls will stay lovely as they were when I got them n___n But if you are asking about body blushing or tattoos, I won't really go for permanent ones because I would love to experiment a different ones in future n___<

    9. I would love permanent face-ups. One of my biggest fears is something happening to my doll's face-ups, and I don't even like to handle them for this reason. My dolls all have company/artist face-ups. Of course, if I did the face-ups myself, it wouldn't be a problem. I'm not really interested in body blushing, permanent or non-permanent.

    10. For those of you who experimented, were you able to add other elements on top of the minwax or floor polish? i.e. is it the final layer, do not pass go, do not collect $200? Or have you been able to add scars, tattoos, etc on top of it?

    11. Im also curious about those who have experimented with the idea of permanent sealers, have any had success? Would we be in danger of the sealant yellowing or chipping over time and would we be able to redo it then? I love this idea, one of the main reason im attracted to OT porcelain dolls, especially to do the basics and never have to worry about body blushing chipping again. Id also like to be able to coat company or artist faceups, which would mean application over the msc which could be difficult.... Id hate for the msc to yellow beneath the sealant and be trapped forever! But if the sealant did work maybe it would stop yellowing from oxidation and environmental factors.... >.>

    12. I would never buy a doll that had had this treatment because I don't see its point. I wouldn't have it done to my dolls either. I would eventually grow tired of the faceup and would want to change it so, why having a permanent one done?

    13. I wouldn't want a faceup to be permanent (it would make selling the doll so much harder - I'm terrible, I know), but body blushing would be cool. If it was super natural and basic; just to give a hint of shading. This is why I haven't body blushed my dolls - the chipping ;_;

    14. I think it's a wonderfull idea.. I always wanted a body blushing for my Amarin, but I always feared I couldn't change her clothes and all so often because it would damage the body blushing..So I think that would be great ^^ That it wouldn't damage so quickly.. But for a face-up I'm doubting.. It wouldn't damage so quickly.. And perhaps not even start yellowing, but the idea of never being able to change the face-up.. I don't really like that idea. Although I'm really fond of my dolls face-up. Maybe somewhere in the far future.. ^^"

    15. I think part of the fun of ball jointed dolls is getting to change their look as often as you want. I would definitely say OK to permenant body blushing, though. Re-doing body blushing has far less appeal to me than giving a doll a whole new faceup.

    16. I don't think I'd want a permanent face up. I like being able to change it- just wipe it and start over. It seems like that's part of the appeal to a lot of people.

A permanent body blushing might be nice too. The only reason I haven't done a body blushing yet - other than lack of Testor's- is because I hear it chips and rubs away pretty easily, no matter how well you seal it.

    17. ok, I have experimented with the 'pledge floor polish with future' I applied it in 2 thin layers with a soft brush over some extensive calico kitty body blushing on a puki pukisha.
it isn't permanent. it is shiny and slick, so I wouldn't really recommend it for in between coats it will help resist rubbing damage but sharp blows can still chip it after all the base layer was MSC. Once chipped it will continue to chip around the damaged area unless resealed.
I don't think the protection it give is good for all over blushing sealant because the chipping is still an issue. it is really shiny and makes the joints really slippery. I don't suggest using it in the joints. it will take at least two to three coats of MSC over the top to knock down the shine. after some time the areas will become shiny again as the MSC wears off.
For extra protection over tattoos and small areas it is really great. it will resist rubbing from clothes and general handling, but don't pick at it or poke it with your nails and such. the same amount of care should be used as if it didn't have extra protection.
Removal of this product is easy, it will dissolve with ammonia. which is smelly should be washed off thoroughly.

    18. Oooh... Pardon my ignorance... Is there even such a thing as 100% permanent?

I think it depends on individuals. Some doll owners enjoys changing the face-ups time to time. Personally I would embrace such an idea as I am the type who sticks with one face up and blushing (including tattoos). I am very sure of my dolls' characters and the face-ups and tattoos are the key in portraying their personalities. It'll be good if the face-ups and blushings stay for long. I don't intend to sell my dolls so affecting the value of resale doesn't bother me any bit.

    19. It would be great if there existed like forever-lasting sealant. I can say from the modelhorse hobby that something like that does not exist. Even for the plastic models, where the colors somehow melt with the plastic, rubs and dings still exist.

For resin horses, where the big artists also work with acrylic colors, pastels, sometimes pencils - you have to be extremely careful not to scratch the horse's coat. Sealants are also used there, and the chipping problem is not that existent, as there are not joints which have to be moved. But protruding spots such as ears, hooves, etc. are also very much in danger.

So something like everlasting color/sealant which works well on resin has still to be found.

Perhaps someone else has a better solution? Although I would not be too interested in this for dolls. Without the possibility for changing their looks, they are only half as fascinating.

    20. For a face-up, I think that's a very bad idea. People's tastes and a new face-up can remind people why they got the doll in the first place. A permanent body blushing doesn't sound like a bad idea.
