100% Permanent Face-Ups and Body Blushing?

Oct 2, 2009

    1. ok, Ive been following this thread now for a bit....so are ya'll ever going to tell us what product you actually used or is it some trade secret? I want to try this myself as I am a bit dubious on the 100% claim. so my request is specifically what is the products full name brand and variety so I can get some to try.

    2. I'd like the idea on certain dolls, but not on all of the ones I own. The customization aspect of the hobby really appeals to me but there are some that are just too cute and I would love to be permanent!.

    3. I definitely think it's a good idea for certain things. I know that if I commissioned someone to do a faceup for me, for a doll that will always have that personality/look, then I would definitely want it to be permanent.
For other dolls, I think it would be just as easy to get a picture of it, and have the artist recreate it again later on if something happened, or if you switched faceups and wanted the old one back.

    4. My question is, does anyone on this forum DO permanent body blushings? It made me so so sad when my girls body blushing began chipping before I even got her home.

I'd never want a permanent faceup however, unless it was an anthro doll of some sort.

    5. Nah, I change everything once in a blue moon, so nothing topical that lasts too long has any appeal for me.

    6. I think if I knew exactly how I wanted a particular character to look, then I would definitely consider it. It would also mean I was way less frightened to touch their faces or anything. xD

Although I wouldn't get it unless I was 100% sure.

    7. It was mentioned on the third? page that someone used Minwax floor sealant. Probably just a normal water-based polyurethane sealant. I've used the same thing many many times on wood, but never on anything else. Minwas products are pretty easy to find, but of course you'd want to check the ingredients to be sure you were getting the right one before slapping it on a doll.

    8. I would do this to one of my dolls if I felt like I wanted to be a permanent character. Like, if I get a dollmore Dark Chocolate Mellow, you better believe she's permanently getting an Uhura face-up. Same with if I get an MNM Spock head.

    9. ooh acrylic sealers..
hm.. im thinking of shading the hoofs of my coming soom doll hmm...
not exactly sure how to do it though =x

    10. I'm seconding this question. I've read through the thread and have seen mention of powerful sealants like floor sealant for a "permanent" body blush but I haven't seen any specific names mentioned. I'm curious because I have a heavily modded, dyed, and blushed doll coming home in a while (she's a zombie mod) and while I know she's been sprayed many times with MSC, I would not be avert to a more permanent option. In fact, it would give me some peace of mind, the work of the customizer is just phenomenal and I could never get it recreated if her blushing/painting began chipping away. *_*

    11. I can't think of a permanent faceup that would be well executed to justify staining your doll. I cannot even think of materials that would produce the finesse that is often found in professional faceups.
I suppose if you handle your dolls to the extend that the faceups are often being damaged, you should probably learn to re-do it yourself each time your doll get too social in a con. ~Gus

    12. This is interesting to as I don't have a doll yet, but when I do it will be because I love the face as it is. Why would I want to change it so often as many of you seem to do? It would be nice if it were an option at the time of purchase.

Do the default factory done faces come off that easily? I'm a newbie and that's scary.

    13. I am for the idea of a permament face up since I myself wont do face ups and if it's meant to be a certain character I would hate for it to fade or chip over time.

    14. Permanent face-up and body blushing seems like it's defeating the purpose of a BJD -a customizable doll. In my opinion, I like changing my doll's look because I like change. I could see a permanent faceup/blushing on a doll that was for eye candy -little to no clothing change, no taking it to meet ups, ect- But that's something I wouldn't do.

    15. I absolutely would go for the permanent treatment, if it were possible. Once I choose a face-up, I can't imagine changing it. For me, it would be like wiping out the doll's entire character to remove a face that I've come to love. I'd love it if the face-ups were permanent.

Being able to change the wigs and eyes is customizable enough for me.

    16. Not everyone on here seems to understand that if you do want permanent body blushing you can very well do that and not have the heads faceup be permanent. You just send the parts to different people.

Also, I think not everyone understands the frustration of bodyblushing. Unlike faceups which can last a good long while with no chips or faults, simply picking up your doll after spending $50 on body blushing can chip it. The slightest movement will chip the joints which is the most important part of the blushing in my opinion. The blushing can be shipped before even arriving back home. Which is extremely frustrating! I personally, as soon as I see a chip, feel it needs redone. But I can't and won't redo my dolls blushing every time she chips. It's just not financially possible.

And generally most body blushings look the same aside from intensity and freckles beauty and such. And you can just as easily get the color permanent and then have another artist do the freckles scrapes or scars, that you may change your mind about, sealed with a normal testors (or similar) sealant. Doing this will give you the long lasting beauty of the blush with the flexibility of changing scars, scrapes, freckles, or what have you.

It all depends on what extent of permanence you want for your doll. And it makes them no less customizable in my opinion.

    17. Yeah I'd get this, but only if I was a 100% sure that it was exactly what I wanted. Resale not such a big issue for me as I don'[t see myself ever wanting to sell any of mine.

    18. I would love the option of permanent faceups and body blushing, although the joy of bjd for me is in changing expression/mood with wigs, eyes and clothes. There are times when I worry that my gorgeous girl won't stay that way forever. This doesn't happen in all cases, but when you are especially bonded to a personality, if would be lovely to have it forever. I love the faceups that I have had others do, but they do not always show exactly what I am seeing in my head. When I do get one that is perfect, I would love to be able to add something (after faceup) to make it permanent.

    19. yeah I'd do that on the same day I would go and get eyeliner tattooed on my own eyelids. For me, no, really super bad, creativity killing, horrifying idea. But great for some people who like things just so.

    20. For all who are wondering about completely perminat faceups I have a few dolls and at one point I used a paint on them that stained the resin to the point where I had to sand it. No amount of brush cleaner, mr.clean magic erasers, or nail polish remover would remove it.
