100% Permanent Face-Ups and Body Blushing?

Oct 2, 2009

    1. I didn't even know you could do a permanent faceup O.O .... That is something I probably wouldn't want unless the faceup just too perfect for the character. Now permanent body blushing that won't chip sounds awesome!!

    2. I would LOVE permanent body blushing. XD; maybe faceups too. But i would be slower to jump at this just in case i were to regret my choices later ><

    3. I would get a permanent face-up/ body blushing on two conditions

1)It would not actually damage the dolls(ie eat the resin)
2)It was done well, in my style, to my satisfaction.

It really bugs me that my girls blushing on her hands has worn off, so I would really like it to...not do that. Now I would NEVER do this on a doll I had doubts about or wasn't totally attached to (ie: dolls I would only sell in an emergency). But for dolls that aren't going out the door any times soon, I say why not.

    4. I've been thinking, and I bet you could do a pretty permanent blush job with the Copic airbrush system. That stuff really sticks, so I'm sure it wouldn't chip off. :3 I haven't tried it though, and it would take some experimenting. I don't know how it works with MSC, for one thing.

    5. I think the main thing that would be important is trust in the customizer. I dislike most 'professional' blushing I see. I am verrrry picky, so it would really have to be someone that I liked EVERYTHING they did, in case they did not do what was in my head exactly, that way I would still like it. I would never do a perm faceup though, I like them to change.

    6. I would actually consider something like this because I am not the sort of person who likes to keep changing my doll's looks. Initially, yes, while I am trying to figure out their personality but once I have that nailed down, I think I would get too attached to that personality and not be as willing to change them constantly. I hope that made sense!

    7. Stormslegacy, when you mention using a "Minwax floor acrylic" sealant, could you be more specific about what product, exactly, you used? I did a search based on the info you've already mentioned ( having a satin finish, coating every 2 hrs, taking 24hrs to dry, etc.) and found that "Minwax® Water Based Polyurethane for Floors" seems to fit the bill, but I don't want to spend the money/ test anything out on resin unless I'm sure of the product.
I'm extremely interested in a form of more permanent sealant for one of my doll's body blushing and intricate tattoo work, so I'm wanting to give this stuff a go, I just need to know for certain what to get~ ^^

    8. I would love permanent faceups/blushing. blushing especially.. or permanent unless you use a special product to remove it. that would be awesome. no more repainting nipples every few months!

    9. I tried asking this before and I second this request. I would like to know what EXACTLY was used in the tiny in the pocketbook experament. not just a general product, but the specific item. I really want to see if this will work for my copper dragon hatchling full body blush. Please:) *begs*

    10. Well, I sent a pm to Stormslegacy a while ago in hopes of a faster reply, but so far no such luck ( and it seems they haven't been on DOA for a while too...), sooo I decided to just go ahead with my own experiment attempt! ^^

I went to a home improvement store (Lowes) and bought a 32 fl oz can of "Minwax water-based polycrylic protective finish in clear satin" (about $7.00)
I'm using one of my B&G boy's spare hands to test on. I blushed, manicured and added tattoos to the hand as would be normally done with MSC ( with layers of msc both before and after painting).
At first, I had the hand on its S hook suspended with a paper clip over some news paper in order to easily brush on the liquid Minwax, but since I'm not very accurate with a paint brush, I opted to just giving the hand a quick dunk. I then brushed some of the excess liquid off and let the rest drip-dry before hanging the hand suspended over some news paper were it could dry. When I left the hand, it had a sort of slightly milky sheen from the liquid, but I'm guessing this will go away once dried. The whole process after gathering the materials took a total of some 5 minutes, and since both the can and previous posts suggest re-coating every 2hrs, up to 3 times, I'll be doing so at around 8:00pm tonight.
Hope this will be helpful, and I'll keep updating with any progress~^^

Edit: I've finished the hand, and the sealant really does seem to protect from touch and normal wear. The seal is sort of similar to a thin plastic-y varnish. Once finished, the sealant does leave a glossy shine, but nothing I don't suspect a coat of MSC won't cure~ Again, hope this is helpful to this interested! ^^

    11. A big part of why I love BJDs is the customization factor, so perminant stuff doesn't appeal to me much. Though, body blushing wise, it would be nice to make them last longer. Still wouldn't want it perminant though.

    12. No. It would sell for less. While I don't believe I'd sell my dolls, I think it's best to always have my eye on the long term. Plus, the ability to give a new faceup or body blushing to an older doll can make some people more enthusiastic about their doll all over again. Change is good, now and then.

I wouldn't buy a doll with permanent makeup. I have no interest in anthros either way.

    13. I would never consider getting a doll or want my dolls to have permanent face-ups. I like having the option to change their face-ups, it just is one of the customizing features that I love about this hobby. However, I would be more open to permanent body blushing, but still not 100% sure I would opt for it.

    14. I would never give a doll permanent painting! (or buy one)

    15. Phantasmagoria: How did the pastel withstand the dunking? I would feel much better with a spray able substance,

    16. Edible cookie, the hand I dunked had both pastel and acrylic paint on it ( as well as the obvious MSC) and both substances came out just fine, no bleeding or fading that I can see at all. I can take some comparison pictures later and send them to you, if you'd like.^^

    17. ^ I. Would. LOVE that.

    18. yay, I would like to see the results of your experament as well!
minwax polycrylic comes in a spray version. I have seen it at Walmart, but I have only seen gloss, semigloss, and satin finishes

    19. I have several dolls with make ups by my favorite artists, and some of the customizers don't take commissions, so I have no chance to repeat or fix the make up if something happens. So, I'd prefer their make ups to be permanent :)

    20. I would definitely enjoy having a permanent face up and blushing, just because the dolls I have are distinct characters from my writings. Changing their customizations would change the entire personality.
