1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

5StarDoll Minis discussion part 1

Aug 8, 2009

    1. OMG that pout!!! with a different face up and green eyes she would be totally sassy!

    2. well, if your not used to using the metric system, transfer all the metric measurements to inches and then create a flat sloper pattern on paper for the upper body with tucks and such...you can find books from the 50's and 60's that show you how to do that easily at any library. then use that pattern and make a cotton/muslin and pin it to the doll very carefully to make sure it fits..I use the tiny pins that come with men's shirt from jc pennies or the more expensive places as they are really tiny pins. With that sloper you can then make any kind of blouse/shirt/bodice as it will fit correctly every single time even if you shorten it to under the bust or lengthen it to the hips as it was made to fit the doll for every purpose. each time you need to make a sleeve it will be the same with the sleeve cap as well...you will only need to worry what length or style of sleeve as the arm scye of the pattern will be taken care of in the sloper, and at the cap of the sleeve pattern. With skirts its only a matter of making the waist and hip sloper and then there is the shorts/pants sloper which can be lengthened or shortened or even widened with pleats to make any kind of gaoucho styled flared slacks as well...in making clothing for a normal sized human its only a matter of making it small for a 1/4 msd doll. I hope I did not confuse you...my apologies if I have.

    3. also, I have made what is called a duct tape body double for my doll, it takes the worry away that I might scratch my beauty with pins or dye might get on her from fabrics(even heavily washed and sealed)that are being fitted and lined. I will be posting a tutorial on how to safely make one in the near future so that others who do not own more than one doll might make one for fitting clothes.

    4. well, basically what I am doing with my beautiful doll is taking all of the knowledge of doll clothes my grandmother taught me and putting it in a book to share with everyone...from turning socks into tights and thigh highs to making slopers and historical patterns. I am staying away from the japanese stuff as there are many books with those patterns in them and I never got into them...I am mostly Scots Irish Russo Germanic with a splash of Greco Hebrew anyways and I am going to be putting all of that into my designs. Embroidery embellishment and the lot included...one should not leave out prettiness..I like the old fashioned look of stuffs and it should not dissapear. So far I have a few patterns drawn out and chapters outlined but I am having fun doing it...so even if it doesnt sell it will have been fun.

    5. 2 new ones? wow, this company is being super productive. i really like daniel...

    6. And they are discontinuing Allen, Ryan and Emily on October 1st. I had plans for Emily!

    7. I like william's outfit. I can't believe their discontinuing Emily and Allen though! They were my favorite sculpts.

    8. no!!! I don't have enough to buy allen yet...ahhhhhh!

    9. Hi everyone! Been reading this thread and saw mention about wig size. I think 5star's wig sizes are a little bit different than every other brand. My 5star Yosd wears a 6/7 in every other brand, but the website says 5/6. So.... I'm not sure how that goes, but I'm thinking maybe the MSD wear size 7/8 in other brands?

Anyhoo, I love my 5Star yosd so much that I want to get an MSD size. I'm thinking about getting Ji. Can you guys post some Ji pics for me?

    10. Their heads are almost exactly 7 so it depends out of all the wigs I tried 6/7 works better than 7/8.

    11. 7/8 wigs from any other brands than 5stardoll tend to be a bit larger...the one wig that came with her fits just right but all other wigs are a bit large so I use double sided tape around the top of her head. and then put the mole skin strip on top of it..(not the foam tape..the regular kind from scotch tape company..it comes off of the doll cleanly and leaves no goopy mess to remove) to hold the wigs on better until I can get the mole skin to stick better without it, for some reason the mole skin won't stick well without it. and the wigs won't stay on without that extra bit of something underneath when they are a size 7/8 and not a 6/7. a 5/6 is too small and pops right off of her head unfortunately...

    12. please remember I am a noob...not an expert..

    13. cutekittami - I love your Ryan. The wig is awesome!! (Your doggie is cute, too...LOL!!)
I would have loved to get Edward and/or Ryan, but one is already sold out, and Ryan will be before I can order him... Or even make up my mind. So many dolls I like... (*sigh*)
I have an order of 3 tinies waiting - it will probably ship in two weeks. Is it bad that I'm already planning a new doll? 0_0

About the wigs: both my other MSD dolls have exactly 7" heads - which means 6/7 is sometimes a bit too tight, but 7/8 is usually too large. :(
I know for Monique wigs the 6/7 is the closest to '7' and it has some stretch, so it will fit. I'm thinking it would be the same for 5*D. A wig cap might help to keep it on.

    14. Just ordered the Ji that was in stock at Denver Doll. Should probably receive her between Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't really know what her permanent wig will be yet as I had a lot of trouble figuring that out with my only other doll as well. Poor thing didn't have anything ordered till after I got her. This one will at least have some clothes at home and I'll have enough fabric to make her more outfits. The size and sculpt of the doll work perfectly for my Sprite, Annabelle's, best friend, but I didn't get her before because of the translucent resin. I think her name will be either Alicia or Cora and she is a bit of a tomboy in how she acts, but not how she dresses. Can't wait to get her. Sorry for the text wall :)

    15. Hi! I'm Neela, I'm new to AoD and also relatively new to BJDs. I've just ordered a 5SD, Jessica sculpt... and with the sale they're having now I also have a Nigel head on the way.
So I'll probably be floating around quite a lot in this thread, just thought I'd introduce myself!
      ^ w ^

    16. Hi Neela! Congrats on your first doll I look forward to see pictures.
