1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

5StarDoll Minis discussion part 1

Aug 8, 2009

    1. Invie, your dolls actually have the B type body, that's the one with the thigh joint and two torso joints. They don't sell that body anymore though. The C type body is the only MSD body they're still selling, and since it isn't double-jointed, it's even less mobility.

    2. No the C body is double jointed. All mine are on the C body and double jointed.

    3. I'm looking at the 5SD website right now and it says otherwise... according to the pictures. > w <;;

    4. [double-post, apologies! Please ignore]

    5. That doesn't seem too bad. I'm getting two different vibes here though. Some say its good and some say its bad. Making me lean towards staying away from these dolls.

Oh, that's hard to hear! I kind of wanted a better poser than the RS Li, so maybe i'm going to have to look elsewhere!

    6. I've only have one of the tiny dolls and he posed very well. I'm sure like Invie said thicker elastic or more tight elastic would help, but wow if the 5stardolls MSDs don't pose as well as RS then I'm kinda glad I didn't get one. Although I really would have like to have gotten one on the A body that is no longer available the 2 torso bodies sometimes don't seem as poseable, but I do just fine with all my Resinsoul dolls both single and double jointed.
I'll have to check and see if someone local has a 5stardoll Mini that I can look at before I decide to purchase in the future, because I love the poseability I have in my RS dolls would suck to have a doll that doesn't pose that well. BTW the trick for the RS dolls is thick elastic and hot glue sueding!! hmm has anyone tried both on the 5stardoll to see if that helps?

    7. Ah! Sorry, my bad, they are the type B. Actually Type B and Type C are the same from the photos on the 5star webpage except for the mobility joint in the thigh. I also Have RS Li who I had to mod so she could sit. In terms of posability I find that 5 star is better than RS at sitting and with head tilt. The head tilt on 5star is great. However RS elbows and knees bend further. This weekend I will compare my 5star Yoka and RS Li for you guys. Zi'li deseperately needs a new faceup tho so don't judge her too harshly.

EDIT: obviously since the type B body has the thigh swivel there are other poses this body can do that RS cannot. Not sure why they discontinued the Type B but since the Type C is the same without the thigh joint I will adjust my review likewise.

    8. Do we have a different definition of double jointed? Because the pics clearly show the seperate peanut of a double joint.

    9. cool look forward to seeing those photos. I'm always confused by companies changing bodies making them less poseable...seems they would rather want to improve poseability. I notice alot of companies with only the one joint right at the bust and nothing else making the torso less poseable. I mean some 2 part torso dolls are pretty poseable but its usually when it is near the waist area. The mobility joint is nice would definitely improve resinsouls MSDs, they have them in their SDs which is fabulous. I've found that sometimes it does move a little but I normally put a little sueding in there to keep it in place, but still moveable if needed.

    10. Hey guys!

Sorry it took me a little while to do the body/posing comparison between 5star and ResinSoul, but here it is.

This is just one of the photos. Pls click the photo to read more.

    11. I finaly got Ryan, in tan. He still needs a face up, but I like him so far:)

    12. Ah I just finished painting a tan Ryan! He had his first photoshoot today along with a WS Allen and NS/YS Emily.

Ryan is definitely the classically handsome boy of the 5star MSD family. I think Allen is the cutest sweetest of the boys and Emily is the most mature of the MSD girls from 5star.

    13. Just wanted to pop in to ask if anyone has or knows of photos of a tan Emma? I keep coming back to this girl, even though I tell myself over and over that I don't need her XD She's one of those sculpts that just calls to me against all dolly reason :)

    14. Here's a photo of my tan Emma with an OT doll. I'm really in love with her sculpt and with the resin color, even though it can be a bit orangey depending on the light.

    15. I have a clear face shot of Emma in Pink Skin. Unfortunately I don't have her in tan. The only thing that might be confusing is that I painted her with a sharper v at the top of her lip (The philtrum). You can see it is curvier rather than sharp in the last photo due to the shine on the gloss.

^___^ She was my little rosebud girl.

    16. Craftykitty09: ooh, nice! How is the resin in tan, it looks really smooth! :o did they send her sanded? Niiiice.
Invie: I adore it! Especially the expression of her eyebrows <3 are those glass eyes?

    17. Hi guys! I have a special and slightly strange request - does anyone here have a 5Stardoll Quintus head that they could try on their 5Stardoll MSD body to show me what it looks like? I bought the MSD body for one of my characters and its not working out for her, and I adore the Quintus sculpt but what a pity he's so tiny (I love tinies but I thought I could use the spare body for a girl Quintus if it works?) I know, really odd, but worth a try :)

PS Kitty Blue, I will try restringing and hot glue sueding my 5Stardoll mini body on the weekend and let you know if she is better. Her legs are fine but her arms are very troublesome, but I'm sure that would help!

    18. little_rika: The resin is super smooth and yes, she was sanded when I got her. She came with just a little discoloration around her legs, but from what I've read on other forums, that's pretty typical of the darker resins.

    19. little_rika , the resin from 5star is generally very smooth to the touch. They remove all the seamlines and while I can see very minor discoloration at the edges of the head i don't see it on the body at all. I will try to take photos of the tan doll I have but he is a Ryan. I can't see the discoloration on the head anymore after the faceup.

oh and yes those are glass eyes. I prefer glass or silicone eyes.
