Thanks Invie and little_rika! I think keeping it minimal and tomboy-ish is a great idea. I need to finish up some of my other projects so I can try another look for her.
I use Liquitex acrylics. I'm not too crazy about them, though. It's difficult for me to get a soft look with them. I might try only using pastels and watercolor pencils this time.
I use golden fluid acrylics. I actually find it easier to get a soft look with acrylics and brush than with watercolor pencils. For a softer look, mix lighter colors or use thinner lines. The acrylics I use are not super opaque since they have a lot of the acrylic vehicle/medium (what they dissolve the pigment in). Different ppl find different materials work better for them. For me I find that watercolor pencils can leave a grainy line so in the end i prefer acrylics. I am planning on trying a comparison between pastels/airbrush and acrylics/watercolor pencil just to really finally test out what i like tho.
I'd love to try out airbrushing. Thanks for the advice, I'll try using more medium this time too. Paint was never my medium of choice, so I know I'll need lots of practice.
little_rika, Thanks! I think 5SD really needs a bit more variety in their doll pictures. The dolls are so much more versatile than they seem in the company photos! kraftykitty09, I love the yarn wig! Did you use a wig cap as the base? I adore her sweet rag doll look.
Breezy brite, I agree with you. Their sculpts are chameleons depending on how you paint them. I think a lot of Chinese companies are plagued by poor quality photos.
Breezybrite, I crocheted a wig cap and attached the yarn using the "hook" method. Thanks for the compliment! She reminds me of a rag doll too. Avina, Yazid looks very sweet. Nice work!
Here's my 5stardoll Yoka Melissa. I got her quite long time ago, but I am rarely showing her. Because I don`t like the material that company used at the time when I bought her. It was a surprise. X_X The doll came in a different material and with a different body. Not to mention the two-week delay in sending because the company changed the body at once. >_<
That wig is so cute on her, Leimrei! So I finally got around to Raven's faceup. It's amazing how much the expression on these dolls can change. Blank she looked sweet, but now she's definitely more devious. I still need to work on eyebrows - they're so hard! - and I think I'll re-do the glitter. I'm not so happy with the white glitter, I should have done all grey. But overall I like it. It's an improvement over my first faceup, for sure!
Hi all, I'm new to this group as I just received my first 5star body to go with the Emma head I received about a month ago. Here's a question. Hopefully it wasn't answered on one of the other pages but I didn't have the patience to go through 29 pages looking. The neck is too big around for the head to fit properly. I had this problem with my AOD doll as well. I don't mind modding it to fit properly, but is this common?
Thanks! I'm trying to save up to get a couple spare heads for her so she can have different makeup without having to redo her faceup constantly.
So uh...I have a kind of hybrid 5stardoll, which really doesn't belong in the tiny group but she is a tiny head on MSD body..So I though it would be more appropriate for her to be here? I've had her for over a year now and really haven't posted her on DOA because well like I said I wasn't certain where she belonged. If if bothers people having her here just let me know. This is Ylva Phelan, she is a Quintus head on RS slim MSD body. She isnt so happy about being in this outfit, she is more of a tomboy, but I think she looks adorable.
