5stardoll Supers

Jan 6, 2011

1. I just ordered my Dark in their dark grey resin with the default face-up last night and 5Star gave me an estimated shipping date of Oct. 15. Yea! Given that time frame, it should be enough for me to get his dragon arm done and have it ready to string by the time he arrives home (the mod podge I'll be applying after I metal leaf the arm is going to need to cure for 6 weeks to fully harden).

The only thing suck-tacular about this purchase is the performance of the Canadian dollar (which has nothing to do with 5Star). I hadn't realized the CAN buck had dipped so much; enough to add an additional $120 to my purchase price *sigh*. But I've finally ordered Saraf and I'm quite excited to get him home.

2. I love Dark's face. I look forward to see yours in dark grey. Too bad about the Can. dollar thing :|. October sounds like a good time for a Dark wizard to arrive.

3. The dark grey sample I got is perfect for Saraf so I was very pleasantly surprised to see it with the others I'd asked for as I had no idea they also did a dark grey. He'll be about a month late for my b'day but whatever. His wig is a HC Phoenix and I likely won't get that until late Sept./early Oct. so it works out anyway.

4. Iron_Dog, thank you so much for posting that photo of the resin samples compared to each other, I love the dark grey and might have to plan for a doll in that colour someday. :D
(Also, on the subject of the CAD, I think it's not only that but that the USD is doing extremely well for some reason, and most companies are charging in USD. x_x I think Doll-Mix or at least one Canadian dealer carries 5stardoll and I noticed they list all their prices in USD, so we can't catch a break no matter what. ORZ )

Can I just say I'm super disappointed that I missed out on ordering Gabriel? I had to decide between him or my Soom Serin for Christmas last year, so of course I picked Serin, but I've been wanting a partner for my 5stardoll Michelle for years! I just hope that maybe they will re-release him, or release another SD boy like him.

What sorts of SDs do you guys hope they'll release in the future? Fantasy dolls vs. humans, girls vs. boys, limiteds vs. basics, etc.?

5. I have a serious weakness for grey resin and I was going to ask them for a custom grey that is darker than the one the have in their online sample. But when I got the samples from 5Star themselves and they had that dark grey in there... In case anybody is interested, the dark grey was the same price as the tan. I was told to order a tan doll and put a note in my order that I actually wanted the dark grey.

I've been eyeballing Eric as another character, but my doll purchases are pretty much done for the year as long as I can talk myself out of a doll OT for this thread (the talking out of is not going well *laughs*).

6. I can't wait to see the dark grey. I like all resin colors and want them all.. lol. Here is a picture of my Kevin with my RS Dai in lilac resin.[IMG]DSCN3605 by me, on Flickr

7. I've got a weakness for coloured resin and right now have dolls in multiple shades of grey (including RS grey and dark grey), red, zombie skin (grey with a green cast), tan, dark tan, black (he's dyed), old RS blue that's mellowed to a lovely turquoise, grass green, light purple, seafoam and if things go the way I think they will, I'll likely be adding a translucent dark blue to the horde as a b'day present to myself. The only reason I didn't jump on the latest Soom boy offered in black resin was that I'd purchased a doll quite literally a week before and had no more dolly funds to spend.

I like the tan resin that 5Star does but I'm not sure it's right for the character that the Eric sculpt would be. I'm resisting the idea of more dolls right now but I've been at this long enough to know that, like the Borg, resistance is futile. I think I'd cave on the Eric sculpt should I get a body to go with the head (that I already own) that is his lover.

As far as Saraf (Dark) goes, I've got his eyes now and they're gorgeous and I'm glad I did suck it up and pay the $42 they cost. I'm also cautiously hopeful that I'll be able to start applying the metal leaf to Saraf's arm this weekend. One the leafing is done, I'm Mod Podging it to seal and protect the leaf and it apparently takes 4-6 weeks to fully cure. Which would have his arm ready to be strung on him when he finally arrives at my door. Or at least that's the plan. If he needs to wear his "default" arm for a little longer when he first gets here, I'm not going to complain all that much.

8. ParlourGoddess I was flipping through the last two pages and saw your boy and said OMG that's Tumnus, I was able to recognize the scuplt, it amazed me but I have been working on Reed lately so I have that face burned into my head. Even if it is quite camoflaged. I got his armor re-fitted and he is painted/tattooed and back together.

9. Tumnus is such a nice sculpt!! Steamwitch- I love your guy!!! What color resin is your guy in? It looks blueish on my screen.[IMG]DSCN3814 by me, on Flickr I took new pictures of my guy. I love the body sculpting.

10. Reslie He is a light gray resin but he has lots of different colors on his face, blue, lighter grays, black and purple. His Mirodoll body was supposed to be Iplehouse gray but it seems more purple than gray but it fits him well.

11. Today my Becca arrived. She is soooo pretty. I ordered the default faceup and it is subtle and natural. Looks just like the photos on the site.

One problem however. She shipped with only the flat feet and I'm pretty sure she's supposed to come with both flat and high heel feet. Her promo photos show her with high heel feet, and the outfit she's wearing in the promo photos is with high heel shoes.

Regardless, I LOVE her. Her body feels very solid, but she's not overly heavy. She's a wee bit kicky, but I expected that, as they usually ship with slightly loose elastic to prevent breakage during shipping. Even with the elastic being slightly loose, she stands perfectly right out of the box. A quick adjustment is all she needs.

I was also pleasantly surprised because the default eyes they sent with her are a very pretty blue-gray. Usually free default eyes are an icky shade of amber. These are the exact color of eyes I wanted for her. Her head was shipped detached from her body and with the eyes already installed.

She also came with a free gift wig which is really nice. It's long and blonde with bangs. I almost like it better than the wig I bought for her, which is the wig shown in her promo pics.

Also included were her zippered suede "sleeping bag", a bra and panties, her COA, a photo card and 5 Star's 5 year anniversary pin.

My Genesis (Tumnus) is being very helpful, gently holding Becca's head while I unpack her body.

12. ParlourGoddess She is very pretty! Congratulations on getting her home. My Becca didn't come with high heel feet either.

13. She's lovely, ParlourGoddess! One of these days I'd love to get a Becca myself... She's a ways down the line though, as I have a layaway to pay off yet and then two floating heads to buy bodies for. Hopefully 5star doesn't discontinue her in that time. Meanwhile I have my lovely Tumnus and Angelo and Amy... I'm just sad they got rid of Angelo, I'd wanted to order a second head on a girl body to be his twin sister. Am now searching different companies for a girl elf who looks similar. :P

14. Hmmm? I could have sworn she comes with high heel feet. I don't know where I got that impression, except that the shoes she's wearing in her promo pics look like high heels. But I thought I read it somewhere too. SHRUG

I bought hi heel boots for her before she came, so now I either have to sell her boots or find high heel feet for her. Rats!

16. Reslie please tell Mikhail that Becca thinks he's absolutely scrumptious, but he'll have to get in line behind my Genesis.
I got some clothes on Becca this afternoon. I had bought a jacket and I made her some jeans today. Then today a top I ordered from Mint On Card arrived, so now she has a complete outfit except for shoes.

I have she and Genesis posed really cute. Until I can adjust her elastic, her arms naturally want to fold across her chest. It makes her look like she's giving attitude. So I posed her giving Gen the cold shoulder as he's trying to flirt. Regretfully the battery on my camera died as I was trying to take the pic. I'll try to get pics soon.

By the way, I talked to the kind ladies at DDE about the flat feet and they said that 5 Star used to sell high heel feet separately, but have stopped doing so. Apparently the flat feet were somehow forced into those shoes for the photo.
Wish I'd known she only had flat feet before I spent $40 for a pair of boots for her. It was a splurge that I normally wouldn't indulge in, which is why I'm really disappointed. I doubt I can get back what I paid for them if I put them in the Marketplace. I'm probably better off trying to find some high heel feet for her from another maker.

Steamwitch your Thadeus is very dramatic looking. 5 Star makes such handsome boys :)

17. Update: I asked 5 Star about the high heel feet and they said that I can special order them, even though they aren't on the website. The cost would be $20 plus shipping.

18. @ParlourGoddess-- I have a 5Stardoll girl body (it was actually a Becca when I bought it, but I've since changed the head and made it a hybrid) and when I ordered it I also ordered the purple outfit and black shoes in Becca's sales pics. Those shoes run really big and can easily be worn by 1/3 dolls with heel or flat feet, there's plenty of room in them to accomodate the flat foot not curving with the sole. There are a lot of high-heeled shoes that can be worn on flat feet; it all depends on the cut of the shoe and the angle of the sole (how curved the shape of the sole is). I have three girls that only have flat feet currently and they wear heels all the time! There are some heeled shoes that just won't go on without heel feet, it's true. It's kind of trial and error which ones will work on flat feet and which won't. But overall if you have to be stuck with one kind of foot I think flat ones are definitely more versatile.

19. I would definitely try the flat feet in the heeled shoes. My Michelle's flat feet fit better, and were more stable standing in her heels then her heeled feet.
