5StarDoll Tinies Discussion Part 4

Oct 14, 2016

    1. I agree, Fairy Milliner! I used to love their free events in the past. I got whole Batboy free when I purchased an SD Edmund, and also got a free SD Tumnus head! As I recall, if you bought over $300 dollars, you could get a whole free tiny doll of your choosing. Those were great events! Things have certainly changed over at 5Star. :atremblin

    2. Speaking of event dolls...... I just did a trade and have a package waiting at home for me. Within are 2 twins cast in 2014 that were event dolls called Twins. I think, based on a pininterst pic I did manage to find.... they might have been 2013 summer events. They have odd heads I can only describe as fish-people. The original owner got them as event bonus dolls in grey skin but I cannot find anymore information on them. Is anyone familiar with these kids? In pics, they look pretty cute. Once I get a chance to be at home (I work crazy hours) and spend some time opening the box and putting them back together, I will share some pics.

Also, these dollies are super cute. Yay!!! I'm not sure how I've gotten by so far not noticing this company before. I'm going to spend idle time here at work looking through all the old threads I can find about these tinies.

Edit: I did find a web photo.

    3. I have been so out of the BJD loop, so I am sad to see that they have retired so many sculpts. :( Is Batboy retired? I looked, and can't seem to find that one on the site, though it wasn't working. I was never able to re-get Batboy, so I quite sad about that.

@mollym - congrats on the twins! Those heads are so cute. I can't quite remember what year that event was, but I remember seeing it. I can't wait to see any pics you take!

    4. Wow! mollym, that's awesome! Lucky you! I don't know much about those sculpts, but I do know they were event heads from a few years back. I remember seeing photos of them in past 5Star threads. They are so cute and unique! I envy you finding them!

Looking forward to you sharing photos of new tinies! :fangirl:

Hey! Nice to see you, pepperonipizza! Yeah, it's a bummer that 5Star has retired almost all of their tinies. (and, all the 60cm SD sized doll are gone, too!) I don't understand why they would do that. All those dolls are so cute! It makes me really sad to see them all go. Sorry you didn't get a Batboy. :atremblin

Denver Dolls is showing that they stil have a Quintus in white resin in stock. I just checked and he's still there if perhaps you are interested in him.

    5. Hello there, Rabbit-moon! :) I don't understand why they would either. Just like the agony of Pipos retiring the majority of their PI and Jr. PI line, and when Luts and FL split and the Delf line died. Broke my heart. I suppose this hobby has to "progress" and change, but it sure is hard to witness. :(

I did see DDE has the Quintus, and I would love to snatch him up. Sadly, my funds are all spoken for at this moment. It'll change, so hopefully he will stay in stock for a little longer! He's one I have wanted for some time, so if it is meant to be, he'll be mine. :)

    6. I agree, pepperonipizza. It broke my heart to see all those dolls get discontinued. The Delf line going away was a real heartbreaker. So many of us began our collections with an El or a Lishe. It also broke my heart to see the original Iplehouse YID line discontinued. You're right, it's hard to witness.

I sure hope you get a chance to get him. I have a Quintus, and I just love his grumpy little face. :frownyblush:

    7. Yeah, you and I got into the hobby around the same time. So much has changed - newbies don't know what they have missed! I was pretty upset over the original IH YIDs too. The new ones just aren't the same.

I sure hope I can. Quintus is one of my favorites. Your's is such a cutie pie! I'm just glad I have my Jesse (Lucian), since apparently that sculpt is gone too! Did they even get rid of Aiden? I did see one new sculpt I like, but with the regular human ears, and lack of vampy fangs, totally on the fence on that one. Can't remember the new one's name.

    8. *Hugs* Yes pepperonipizza, you and I are old-timers, now. Those were exciting times when we first got into this hobby. I remember when Lut/Delf "El" was it-on-a-stick. There were so many Els on the board, and Luts had such amazing clothes! I use to tab through page after page of awesome doll outfits and drool. :drool

Yes, it looks like the whole Aiden Family has been discontinued. :...(

I was late getting into YOSD sized dolls. I was totally focused on SD sized dolls. I received a TongTong as a gift in 2010, and after playing with her for a while, I thought, 'Where have these little guys been all my life?!'

Not that I want to be an enabler, but if you want that last Quintus you should get him! That's what credit cards are for. :wiggle:thumbup:chomp:

    9. @mollym - You're right, they were summer event dolls in 2013. I got them in summer 2013, along with my SD Gabriel.
Mine have very crappy face-ups. I do want to redo them, but it's not great weather for face-ups at the moment.

    10. It's kind of strange being an old timer, lol, but here we are! El was like that must have doll - everyone wanted one. I think the fact there there were far less companies back in the day gave it a cozier feel. Now there are so many companies and so many dolls, while it's got its own kind of exciting, it's not like the good ol' days.

My first tinies were the anthros. I think my first Yo may have been a LTF, but I can;t remember at this point. :? My first 5star was a WS Batboy, and I was like "these are the best Yos!" :love I love the fact that the 30 size are a little bit bigger. They just feel so solid in your hand.

I am going to see what I can figure out and secure that Quintus somehow. :sneaky Crossing my fingers!

    11. Wow! Pepperonipizza, I never thought of that, but you are exactly right! It did feel cozier, because everyone knew the dolls. There were fewer companies: Luts/Delf, CustomHouse, Dollshe, Soom, Elfdoll, Dream of Doll (DOD), Iplehouse, Dollmore, Migidoll, Peakswoods, Doll in Mind (DIM), and of course, the Holy Grail, Volks. Those are the big ones I remember from when I first came into this hobby. Now, it seems like there's a bazillion companies producing dolls! It feels so scattered. I know it's great that more dolls are being produced, as it gives collectors more choices, But, I miss how everyone was so excited to have the same doll, and seeing all the variations of presentation on the doll we all shared.

You know, about Quintus, DDE does layaway! :thumbup

    12. Just some spam of some of the lovelies we've loss over the years. Per the info attached to this photo, 5Star discontinued all these dolls on 01 Oct 2013.

I don't know most of them, but they sure are cuties! I recognize Aiden and Rex, and I think the little guy at the top right corner is Mars. Anyone recognize the rest?

      Per Fairy Milliner:
Top row is Miya and Mars.
Second row is Ria and Rex.
Third row is Aiden and Kathy.
The bottom two are Kane and Mia

    13. Thank you! :kitty2

You listed all the companies I can remember! Maybe because it was new to me, but there was just this magic to the hobby then that I don't feel so much now. Seeing old companies "update" their aesthetic...well, its just sad to sentimental me. At least I have some old beloved dolls to enjoy. :)

Yes :wiggle, and I have calculated how much each payment would be each month. Gotta see if I can make it work.

Aw, look at all those cute faces! I think the bottom one on the left is Kane. I had one in grey skin.

    14. I agree, pepperonipizza! Actually, I'm feeling very sentimental and nostalgic about the older sculpts, too. So, I'm glad I got most of the older dolls I really wanted, because the newer aesthetic is just not calling to me.

And speaking of Kane! Tah Dah! Look who arrived yesterday! I found this lovely little 5Star tan Kane in the Marketplace. The person selling her was nice enough to still have her original box and certificate. The certificate says that this Kane was made in 2012.

I really wanted a tan 5Star doll, so this was a very nice surprise. Her color is lovely, and all her seams are flawlessly sanded. (And, getting one of the older discontinued sculpts was a plus!)

Gah! I love this doll's pursed lips, little elfin ears, and pixie nose! So frickin' cute! :fangirl:

    15. There is quite a few older sculpts I still lack that I want quite badly, but I feel very lucky to have just acquired 2 in a trade. :)

OMG, just look at your Kane!!! :dance So cute. I love the tan color. What are your plans for her? Have you named her yet? :kitty1

    16. Cool, Pepperonipizza! What two did you get in trade? I'm always curious. :abambi:

About Kane, I'm not sure what my plans for her are yet. She was a total impulse buy. I saw her on the MP and couldn't believe my eyes! Yes, her color is quite beautiful Makes me sorry I did not buy any other 5Star dolls in tan when I had the chance. :pout::(

Until I can figure out what I want to do with her, I threw some clothes on her that I had laying around and tried a couple of wigs on her. Not sure which way to go with her, but a nice fantasy costume would be great, I think.

I like this burgundy wig, but it keeps hiding her ears.

She looks very sporty in this short white fur wig.

(Sorry for the crummy pictures. It was late and I was playing around.)

    17. @Rabbit-moon , @pepperonipizza and @Fairy Milliner . Thanks for coming back into the thread. Wow, it's great to see it being so active. It's great seeing all the pics and good luck to those still searching for more of these guys. Where have them been all this time? I have no idea how I managed to miss this company. I suppose it's just like you said, there are so many companies now. I tried to get my first doll back in 2010, it didn't end well then, so I tried again in 2014 and it's been a constant since.

I've took the heads out and had trouble finding time to do nothing but put these kids back together. Grrrrr...... Once I woke up after sleeping I had the quiet, focus and energy to sit down and do so. The previous owner did a cute air-brush job on them and it's going to stay for awhile. Their faceups look cute, so until I get a few other bjd things sorted, they can wait for an updated look. They make me want to get an air brush set-up even more now. I plan to make them mer-children but since I am a beginner at sewing, I'm sure their tails will require some trial and error on my part. :/ I'm first going to make them carrier bags soon so they can go to a meet with me next month. :D In the meantime, I'm going to have fun with them joining the growing population of bjds on my nightstand in the bedroom. (Dang, I really need to get the shelves painted and up in here!)

In addition to planning some tails, I have picked up some fabrics to make them aquatic themed carrying bags. I designed them so they can also look like sleeping bags. I've made a few so far, and they are looking better with each try. It's only my 3rd sewing project for my dolls but I'm getting more confident to continue to learn to sew for my crew. I hope to get them finished next weekend as I don't seem to have had enough time this weekend thanks to adulting. :vein

Here's a photo of them once I got them put back together. I think the previous owner did a fantastic job with air-brushing. :chibi

    18. Top row is Miya and Mars.
Second row is Ria and Rex.
Third row is Aiden and Kathy.
The bottom two are Kane and Mia.

IIRC originally they had Quintus, Bibi, Rex, Ria, Mia, Ray, Todd and TongTong.
Then came Mr. Pumpkin, Batboy and Aiden. I remember because that's when I made my first 5SD order. :)
I'm not sure who came first, Kathy and Kane or Mars and Miya.

After that they made the 30 cm body, which became Star-10. That's when they came out with Amy. I never liked that body as much as the earlier ones. And they introduced the Star-5 line at the same time. (Jesse and three girls with optional antlers or bunny ears whose names escape me...)

Of all the ones I didn't get I most regret Mia and Rex. But hey, I have 9 of them (if you include Jesse) so I shouldn't complain. (The ones who "got away" always seem to get cuter by the year, though... LOL!!)

    19. Oh Wow! Mollym, they look awesome! I adore their little mer-fishy faces! :D

Your plans for them sound great! I admire your tenacity in learning to sew. I can't sew a stitch.

Looking forward to seeing more pixs of them! :thumbup

Thanks Fairy Milliner! Appreciate the info on who's who in that photo. It's such a shame that 5Star discontinued so many cute sculpts! And, now they have discontinued the rest! WHAAA! :...( So sad!

Here's a picture of another boy they discontinued at the same time. Do you recognize him?

(Boy has been identified as "Todd".)
