Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. A Family Affair: Do your loved ones love dolls too?

Aug 6, 2009

    1. Well where to begin......I've always loved dolls never got the ones I wanted as a child :( Feel I'm living my second childhood !!....:) I have 3 sons that love my dolls and my youngest is only 9 and wants his own!! My youngest sister has 3 my 12yr old niece has 2 my 9 yr old niece is waiting for her first BJD to arrive as a Birthday gift from me and my darling niece who is only 4 also wants one too :) My parents think they are beautifull and partner is forever supportive and can reel off any amount of Dollfie sculpts when questioned!
My sons girlfriends also want one!! I generally inflict the dollfie bug on most people who enter my home and find that they are an **ENIGMA** of happiness for most and something that makes me very happy :) which above all is the most important thing :) ....... I am eternally gratefull for all the love I receive from my family :)

    2. My Mom collects as well. She started collecting resin dolls (but not BJD) way before resin was popular with the masses. She completely introduced me to the hobby. It's nice to have someone to share with. And my daughter who is 6 is totally into it too. She has a couple inexpensive BJDs dolls in her room that she doesn't play with, but imagine in a few more years she will.

    3. I'm the only one in my family who:
      a) ever heard of BJD's
      b) loves BJD's
      c) isn't afraid of buying one just because they cost much
      d) actually bought a doll house, just for the doll
      e) doesn't think of BJD's as creepy dolls

But! I must say that my boyfriend was the one who bought my very first BJD (a Fairyland Pukipuki Pongpong). He knew how long I had been searching for the perfect first BJD, and the last few months before he bought me one, I was in love with Pukipuki's. :)

So... He decided to buy me one as a New Years Eve gift. <3

He still finds them expensive tho. His quote at that time was "one only needs to be crazy enough to buy one, and in this case I'm that person who was." I love that quote. XD

    4. Back when, I had seen dolls on and off and was curious about them, but I figured they were way too expensive, and that I'd probably never end up with one. Then one fine year, my sister caught wind of them at an Anime Convention, and she kept bugging and bugging to have one... Finally I landed myself a paid Internship, and after saving some funds, we got her one. _xD After taking that first step, I was finally brave enough to grab one for myself a few months later... Now, together, we're at... like... eleven. -gigglesnort- She's into dolls, yeah, and we both sit down for the box opening ceremony if a new doll comes in.

    5. my mum loves dolls!!!she doesnt own our kind of dolls but she love looking at mine and helps me with the clothes and stuff!!!:)

    6. My mother is slowly getting into dolls after the three years I have had them. She takes me to meets and owns a few herself. My father thinks I should use them as a profit margin and my boyfriend does not take much interest.

    7. I can't say that my parents loves this hobby, they tolerate it and understand how much I love dolls.
My mum likes to look at my favourite dolls on the internet, sometimes my sister gives me advices on doll customizations and I really love to listen their opinion. I kinda think about my dollies as a part of my family! ^w^
As for my boyfriend, the first time he saw a bjd istantly asked me to customize one of them like one of his favourite characters from Final Fantasy... -.-"

    8. Other than my sister who started this whole affair :p, my mum actually quite likes them. She's pretty good with the whole collectables thing. She has her own collections of Franklin Mint plates and Dragon statuettes.

    9. My husband (late husband, I guess... still weird saying that), was always supportive of my doll habit, even though he didn't understand my burning desire! Every time I get a new doll or a new outfit I think about what Gary would have said... :)

    10. My boyfriend absolutely hates them! Though he might be a little jealous I spend hours looking for male 72cm outfits on sale/learning patterns when I don't help HIM shop for fashionable clothing. -_-

My mother thinks it's a huge waste of money and gets angry at me when I talk about it at all.
My grandmother has no idea what they are but likes the girls because she collects porcelain dolls. ^_^ (too bad i'm getting a boy... with pose-able man-bits! XD)

    12. i'm the only one in my family that collects bjd's though when we are out on "photohikes" my husband will sometimes take pictures of shots i've set up and most of the time doesn't mind waiting while i set up/take pictures unless i'm REALLY slow. but he would never get one for himself. i've tried to convince my son's girlfriend that she should get one as she is in to photography too, but so far no luck  i have some friends who think they are cool but wouldn't get one for themselves either. luckily all my friends and family have know i was weird forever so no one thinks i'm any stranger than before i started collecting and often don't notice the number of dolls mixed in with my extensive teddy collection ;)

    13. My mom and step dad are very supportive of my doll ^^ they're always asking about her, which makes it alot of fun ^^
Any guy that comes and hangs out with me and is interested in dating me, i always say, you date me, you except her haha xD
They always laff and seem amused, i think they like that im not ashamed of my (awesome) hobby :P

    14. I actually met my fiance here on DoA! *Thanks, DoA ;D *
We live together now and have a hoard of resin kids. Even her mother has a doll.
It's nice to live with someone that likes dolls as well. OTL

    15. My husband thought they were creepy at first, but has learned to accept them. I think he's intrigued by them. He's talked about getting one to mod into a steampunk character, but he doesn't like the price.

He collects action figures and plushies, though. ;-D One of his earliest gifts to me was a stuffed Cthulhu.

    16. me and my mum are both equally into the hobby :) i was interested first, and found DOA and she bought me half of my first and loved her so much she got her own! she now has a million more than me and is probably more active than me on here and on flickr :P

    17. I was really surprised recently when my cousin who is like late teens and a total gamer guy commented on some of my pictures confessing he loved my dolls. It was so neat coz he was the first of anyone to say so.

    18. My mom doesn't like bjds, she finds them too creepy :sweat She says they look too realistic for her tastes

    19. Both my Mom and my Son have come to love BJD's....
and even my boyfriend has made the comment if one
company makes an overly muscular body builder male
body doll... he would get one.... and he is a total gamer & computer geek.

    20. Ive certainly influenced people Ive met into buying dolls.
As for family, well I lived with my ex for 3 years and he got himself a doll because he thought they were neat. Im sure his mom would have gotten one too eventually but I haven't talked to them in a while now, lol. It would be neat though to have a family member in the hobby with you.
You could share doll clothes and wigs and you get the chance to play with different dolls lol.

I don't have any real life doll buddies yet, it would be a really fun hobby to share with other people so I'm looking forward to going to meetups in the near future. :)
