Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. Yes! That's who it was, Okja!

    2. Wow, the controversy. I didn't know there was such a discussion on this already. ^____^;

I've never been shy about being a chubbychaser [My art should say enough], so you'll have to excuse me, this is an idea of a perfect man in my opinion! ^_____^ <3 *Thumbs up*

I have a doll that I make to look super paunchy (His belly at least). Of course, I use cotton balls and break them apart and shape them until they turn out looking fairly decent. I think it works best for weight. That way the doll doesnโ€™t fall over or anything. <<; Though if I could find something light enough that was hopefully easily removable and repositionable it would be great. Their shirts might be a little challenging, but I think then pants would work just fine. (I'm not an expert on sculpting, so maybe the balance really is a big deal.)

    3. Aha! Thank you, a perfect example of what I was trying to say ^^ That just because it may not be the norm, does not mean that people can't have varying ideas about what is or isn't the perfect body. Alright, I'll stop beating a dead horse now, though reading through this thread almost makes me want to sculpt my own BJD boy body that's on the thicker side xD Haha, I know I'll never do it though, since the only boy I have that would actually use it already has a body and I'd feel too weird switching him out now. :/ But still! Maybe it'll inspire someone else someday to make a full doll that doesn't fit in with the normal look.

And as for the whole issue about clothes not fitting...well, I think alot of us already have those issues as it is anyway because all dolls from different companies don't always match up. If thicker set dolls became more popular, I'm pretty sure clothes would just follow along, as everything always does.

    4. I'm planning a deliciously robust OOAK bjd girl, myself. I want a poseable odalisque, basically... of the Rosetti-ish Pre-Raphaelite type, with petite breasts, rounded shoulders, soft tummy and womanly thighs. I want to design the face after Rosetti as well.... his women were so unconventionally striking. Almost masculine... but ethereal in a way that could only be female. They look so faery, to me. Just as I would picture your classical 'devious evil Otherfolk' from Celtic myth. So I want to make something along those lines. Maybe this year; I have a lot to say about BJDs and the classical concept of beauty, so maybe I'll do a run of casts for a class. I'll keep you posted... looks like some people might be interested in the process.

    5. That is true, I have never seen a chubby dollfie either... thats odd isnt it? I know they probley make them... but I dont know where to find them

    6. My male SD has a large bottom.
My Female msd [mature] Seems to have a wider waist/hip thing going on.
I hadn't noticed it until a few month's ago, she seems a tad 'plump' or some thing.

As for having a 'fat' doll... I would prefer a 'soft' 'fat' doll.
A hard resin 'fat' doll would smite my love for the real squishy deal. 0_o

    7. someone in the BJD original artist gallery made herself a chubby almost fat dollfie :33 heres a piccy hope she doesnt mind <33

    8. Sleeping elf CoCo is a chubby one..and soo lush!

    9. I suppose it's largely due to there being not much of a market for them. Other than that I do think it might be hard to make, and make look good (as in as natural as possible). I often get horrified at how skinny some dollfies are...Even my Abio Angel boy has protruding ribs D:
I think it's just because it's a lot easier to make dolls with the "ideal" body. Not to mention - how expensive do you think a fat doll would be? It's hard enough getting an african doll, and they cost like 800$...a doll using extra resin would be in the thousands no doubt @_@
But I think it's definately possible to do with mods, though I haven't seen it done.

    10. 42Doll (Which I found on the Luts site) Has chubby dolls.

    11. thankies sweetie
hand on heart Coco and BonBon were a gamble ...I knew I wanted to do them ...but didnt think they would ever be as popular as they are

I adore my light tan and dark tan Coco ...and I mustnt forget BonBon
(and tans are always my favorite )

and they are my best selling doll at the momment

there are plent of pictures of them on my Flikr
      http://www.flickr.com/photos/sleepingelf/sets/72157602058248890/

I wouldnt entertain making them larger
they are sexy , curvey and beautiful ....but I think If I made them larger they would loose some of their character

shipping would also be a nightmare ...they would weigh a ton

as for a tubby boy ....you wouldnt believe how hard that is ....tubby ...lookes like larger lout ...I am going for the stocky hobbit look ...that I think will work , but he is much harder than she was

    12. I didn't mean that in the way it sounded. There are tubby dolls out there (Anyone remember Hayden's old body?) so I assume the they're referring to larger dolls. I don't see how a large doll would be attractive. Just my opinion. I didn't mean to offend.

Edit: I think mimou sums up the rest of my opinion pretty well. Larger doll bodies will most likely never be big in the market.

Edit: Wouldn't they be harder to pose too? It'd be difficult to make a chest/waist/hip/whatever part of the body it is joint on a large doll.

    13. Well, it took some time, but I finally have a pic up of my doll's waistline.

This isn't really a mod, since its temp, but he is fat.

    14. Awwwwie Chocobochaos I love your boys tummy, he's cute lol, anyway I have been after a chubby Sd body for one of my boys for ages because in my mind the character was always overweight. However I kind of have to agree there may be some posing issues and despite the fact that I find the idea absolutely adorable and would defiantly buy one. But I guess not enough people would be interested to make it economically viable. So I massacred a woollen walking sock and used it and an Sd girls swim suit to create a make shift body suit and the bonus is he is now literary cuddly lol. I will be posting pics as soon as the weather improves.

    15. Thank you so much! -^0^- I love his tummy too.

Hm. I never really though of that. I'll have to try it for when I get my SD Nanashi. <<; I would absolutely love to see pics of your boy once you get some of him with it! ^___^

    16. Putting in my two-cents. I like the idea of a voluptuous doll (no giant beer bellies, as my dad and I have enough of that to fill our household), but a womanly doll with a womanly figure. But 1. Wide hips would be difficult to find clothes for. And 2. I don't think it's possible for resin to recreate the texture of a truly voluptuous woman. The kind of woman I'm thinking of has very soft skin, perfect for cushioning a baby. As much as someone could try, a hard substance such as resin could never really recreate that kind of womanly beauty.

    17. I like the slim bodies, not the anorexic type just slim.
      Stella

    18. Am I the only one who gets annoyed with the idea that thin people are not real people? Well guess what, just because I don't have love handles that roll over the side of my pants doesn't make me not human.
Another thing... being fat isn't healthy... so stop the crap with the "fat pride" in the name of thin people being unhealthy... its bullshit.

Sorry... a bit of off topic rant.... onward...

Anyways, I have seen some fat dollfies before... I think they are called fat fairies... and I think they are tiny sized. Pretty cute, not my thing, but definitely cute.

    19. this is exactly how 'fat' people feel when they are ignored by the media and openly ridiculed in public. childrens lives made hell becasue of a little puppy fat.

I know very skinny people get just as much 'stick' as fat people.

I don't think anyone was saying slim people aren't human! I think people are just specifying preference here- there are plenty who say they don't want a fat doll, as many that say they like them.

oh and being too thin is very unhealthy it is just not recognised as so by society.

lets just celebrate being human and seeing more of humans represented in dolls. we can never like every doll out there- whatever our personal ideas for either a human or a doll.

    20. I am not talking about puppy fat... or healthy chubbiness ... I am talking about fat... overweight ... unhealthy.

And I definitely agree with you, being too thin is unhealthy, I was just talking about someone who is naturally thin, not dying.

I also aplogize for the rant... it was a little over the top, it just gets frustrating sometimes.
