A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. Yeah, I've been waiting for her to have the time to finish that doll - SO AWESOME.

    2. I'd love to see smaller child like chubby dolls. I've seen chubbier faces, but no bodies really :\

    3. I actually like the female dolls as they are. But I would love to see a wide variety of different shaped dolls, fat and scrawny included. It would be interesting to see, in my opinion.

More realistic proportions would be nice as well, to match the faces that are getting more and more realistic.

Pretty sure this isn't the first time you've mentioned it. ^_^ It's cool that you have such a good self-image of yourself.

Just a note though. If we enlarge a Lishe's proportions in an attempt to match yours (using the waistline as a reference), it would be like this:
      37.3-28-43.05
      in comparison to your 38-28-36

Also, she would have to be 7 feet and 8 inches tall.

If we were to increase her height to a more reasonable 5 feet 6 inches, her measurements would be: 27.3-20.4-31.5

All in all...the doll's proportions aren't usually achievable by humans. Which can be a good thing because I think bobble-headed humans would look pretty scary.

(If anyone would like to correct my quick and dirty maths, feel free. I was just curious as to whether the Lishe's body really translates to reality.)

    4. I'm personally sick to death of the skinny, "perfect" bodies almost all BJDs have. As someone who prefers the chunkier look of women size 10-18, I would be very interested in buying a plus size BJD. I tried to sculpt one once but yeah, as everyone in the artist created dolls section knows, it's very hard ;_;

    5. Most sensible post on here. You'd pretty much be a mutant to look like a Lishe, or most dolls for that matter.

    6. I think Okja from Domadoll has a more child-like chubby body
      http://domadoll.com/okja/domadoll.htm

She has breasts but they could easier be modified smaller

    7. Heh. Some dolls are more realistic than others, but on the whole, I think most aren't close to being proportionally possible. I just got a Soom Super Gem girl and she is as unrealistic as it gets (though I like her for it).

The truth is, chest-waist-hip measurements aren't the only revolving factor about doll realism. The size of the arms, the size of the legs, the length of the legs, the size of the fingers, etc. All those can't be discounted. Super Gem girls have huuuuuge breasts and ridiculously stick thin arms. For so many of the female dolls, their waists wouldn't be able to support their chests and their ankles wouldn't be able to support their weight.

    8. Hmm ... well, to me, dolls are representations of reality, be they super-styalised or more realistic. I like being able to project a personality on my girl. I can pretend that she's overweight or underweight without her actually having to literally BE either of those things, because it's in her character -- her representation of a person or personality.

If you've ever heard people complaining "But Usagi from Sailor Moon doesn't LOOK Japanese! Why on earth draw her like that?" No, she doesn't look Japanese, she looks like a cartoon character. If I wanted my doll to be overweight or chubby or whatever, then I can just tell myself and/or other people that that's the way she is.

'Cause, well ... part of this hobby to me is about pretending, and imagination. That's one of the things that I really like about it.

    9. Ummm... Only replying because I thought this statement was ...odd
and I'm glad someone did the conversion math on the Lishe, because I was about to.
I've been a costumer for over 10 years now and I can tell you that 38-28-36 is actually among the most common measurements out there. A vast majority of mass produced clothing is made with this size range in mind. Which makes it the opposite of rare. It is, in fact, average.
If someone actually had the proportions of a female doll (especially the one in question) they would not be able to function. They are an artistic representation of a perceived ideal that is physically improbable (nay, impossible) for a human being to achieve.
Just wanted to put that out there, since the misconception that certain body types can be 'made' and 'maintained' are how eating disorders start.

    10. I have seen super scrawny, I'm not sure I i would like a bigger doll mold.. Bad thing would be a two feet large one... I think.. (as long as it's hollow then it's alright, but it they put too much resin.... then that is gonna kill whoever through shipping prices and taking to conventions.. Maybe..)

I also kind of agree with Kateb, but the thing is- I think I'd look mean if I took out.. let's say a Unoa Lusis or Sist without any clothes on.. and then say 'She's FAT!' I think I would look crazy, cruel and one of those people that get normal pretty girls to become supermodel unhealthy thin... So While it's great to have imagination, it is also great to have someone not think that your losing your mind.

But imagine the measurements for clothes, it's a bit hard to find some small clothes for unoa- imagine for a big doll... Or a big and tall doll too...

    11. This is very true ^__^ My suggestion is definitely flawed. But I guess there's a little bit of room in some sculpts for the idea.

    12. Personally I would love to see that AND more masculine looking males. Don't get me wrong, I love and adore the pretty boy dolls, but it would be nice to see some less feminine types as well. I would love to make one based off my characters, but I would need a more masculine wider chested doll for that

    13. I'm putting off buying a male BJD for just that reason. And I would love to see a more realistic female BJD as well. People say that dolls are a fantasty representation of reality and that's why it's okay to make them unrealistic. That's great and all until you meet someone like me who's ideal body image in a doll is NOT skinny. My ideal look is more realistic. I think BJDs are slowly getting more realistic and I wouldn't be surprised to see more realistic ones in the future. (Although I think masculine men will come before realistic women dolls).

    14. ARUgh acutally! I hate how BIG the girl's breasts are on most sculpts! Which I find funny, because asians are naturally small chested...
I was planning on getting a girl in the beginning, but all their SD sized bodies turned me away. I couldnt find a body that matched a head I liked enough. Luts has okay bodies, espeically their kid delfs, but still, not for me..

I can't talk from personal experience about the biased-ness of the skinniness (i have a very, very small build natrually and healthily and i always get accused of being annorexic, ugh i hate american stereotypes), but i do think they should probably give more ranges of weight. Its only fair, because the human race is so diverse!

    15. *pfft* My fine d00dettes, I'm also like 38-28-38 and I SURE do not look anything like a freakin CP-girl doll body. :mwahaha No way are Lishes realistically-proportioned. Jeez, our eyes are distorted from looking at these bodies for so long!

I only collect male dolls, and no, I don't want a fat dollfie with a beerbelly and lovehandles. I see enough of that when I go outside & look at the citizens of this world.
For human friends, I take them in any shape they happen to be.... For dolls, I enjoy my slender prettyboys and my musclemen.

(And the familiar plaint of "i want manlier boy dolls" has become almost comically outdated now that we have so many choices of beefcake: SD16, Limho, Unidoll, Iplehouse Elder, Bishonenhouse, and so on down the XY-chromosomal Yellow Brick Road. Meatmarket!)

But if somebody DID make a fat dollfie, male or female, I would sure be stoked to come LOOK at it. I just enjoy the fact that that kind of thing exists, you know? Like that funny Fat Venus tiny doll ("I save you from thin!" she cries in her debut photostory, as she flies around giving candy to the poor starving supermodels). Or Notdoll Toadstool, I love the fact that she exists, because her hideousness so joyfully places her at the other end of the traditional Doll Beauty spectrum.

What I would REALLY get a kick out of seeing is a mature girl doll with a mesomorph build, with thick shoulders and quadruceps. You know how the Volks Unoss has those big brawny thighs & huge hands and feet? In that vein, only more allover meat! C'mon, it'd be fun to turn your Lishe into the WWE's mighty Beth Phoenix & have her whip a vertical suplex on your Unidoll Ark. ^.^

    16. I hate to be a voice of contention but my 26-year-old girlfriend is almost exactly this size; maybe a bit smaller. So... the freakishly tiny skinniness can exist... though I do admit, not commonly. =^_^= And before you start worrying, she is perfectly healthy, and eats like a dam horse. Believe me, I know... I have worked with horses since I was 3. I have fed 15 h, 900 lb quarterhorses less grain at a sitting than I have fed say, rice, to my gf at a sitting. *_*

I do, however, wish there were a greater range of bodytypes represented in BJDdom. I am no delicate waif myself, and feel a bit 'left out' of the representation, here and everyplace else. Me, I am an androgene...I've got the boy shape, with broad shoulders, no hips, height and such. I always thought BJD would be a great medium for more varied bodytypes, since we are essentially art doll fans, not fashion doll fans.

But you know what? The companies listen to us. Just look at the Akando body.... I am totally convinced it exists because some of the ladies on this forum complained for a year about the lack of manly men amongst BJD. *L* So yes, the Venus OKJA is just the first of a new breed, I think. So I am not complaining... just waiting patiently! :)

Though I also wish companies would make more ethnic diversity... or at least stop discontinuing the few ethnic dolls they do make. ED Soah anyone?

    17. YES YES YES.

I have a female character who's 6'3", approaching middle age, and has lived as a male for most of her life, doing swashbuckly stuff. So she would've built up a little muscle, at least.

But for now I guess I'm settling for a Model girl body, which is asdafa; hyperfeminine. ;-; So I may have to sand down her boobies and such... I want a 70cm Amazon body for my Manda!

Preferably one that matches Dollmore resin. ^_~

    18. Bandeau, yeah I would love to have a more masculine looking doll too, Something to rival those G I JOES, there should be so many builds but as of right now..:| they don't have any, but one day they probably will then I'll have to have even bigger pockets:sweat.. right now, have only a penny:(

Oh and sorry Kateb I didn't mean to be.... *bad* (I'm thinking of a five letter word stating with b and ending with h of how I phrased my words before)- just to me If I said it, I know a lot of people would think I was a ...*see parentheses* and yeah.. suggestions can be flawed, I know mine probably is..

    19.
    20. I haven't read this entire thread so I may be a day late and a dollar short, but I recently saw a chubby BJD. I absolutely adore the dark tan Coco the best. These are from TinyBear who also gets great reviews for her wigs.
