A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. I must admit that I am probably one of the few who would LOVE to have a grown up chubby/slightly overweight dollfie. To reflect the realism of real life. Not all people are slim and skinny like all grown up dollfies seem to be and I would love a few with some belly and chubbier thighs.

    2. Having looked at the measurements, it's actually not that impossible - people with hourglassy frames frequently have 10" waist-to-hip ratios and at 5'6 a model-esque or thin person COULD have a 20" waist and probably WOULD have hips bigger than their bust. If you size up a little bit to 5'8 it might work better, think about like - America's Next Top Model type bodies and it doesn't seem so unreasonable. Size 0 or 2.

HOWEVER it's not the average person and I think that's the point we're getting at. Also, it's certainly not everyone's ideal, not that there's anything wrong with people who look like that.

Personally, I'd like to see flatter-chested thin dolls, and athletic muscly ones, just as much as I'd like to see plump, goddess-like dolls.

Yeah, I have several dolls (AS girl and Domuya Flexi-Perennial) where the blushing and/or mold emphasizes the ribs and the hollow of the breastbone, and ...it's a little creepy tbh. And I agree the Dollshes are TINY. If you wanted to go there with your doll's storyline, you totally could.

    3. When I had a Volks Nasia (She's on her way to Spaiiiin~) she was fairly chubby. Thick arms and legs, no bewbs. She was not fat, but she was chubby.

    4. ...Dude I totally want a sumo doll now. A teeny tiny sumo about 6 inches tall.

    5. Continued discussion about "real life humans" versus "dolls" and the perception of heath and "fat" will get this thread locked. It is possible to discuss one's preferences - emphasis being on abjd - without being demoralizing, presumptious and rude. If not, take it to your livejournal. Thanks.

    6. I'm honestly glad that there are such diverse persons out there in their likes and dislikes on body sizes and how their dolls should look. Even if you don't particularly like the idea, I would hope to think that people can appreciate beauty regardless of ideals. I really don't like muscles, they actually make me cringe, however, I adore my wish list doll "Dollmore Kyle Reese" and wouldn't rid myself of him for anything. I think the same could be said for someone who does not like heavier persons and sees a piece of Greek art. They can appreciate its beauty without neglecting its artistic value.

The same would be with a doll. Even if you don't like fat/overweight/pudgy/ect. persons, if the doll was presented artistically, would it still be offensive or devalued to you?

I was just wondering, since it seems people have this image that all things that are fat must be the "krispy kream" stereo-type and officially not attractive whatsoever (Not saying that that isn't to some people, but using the expression of the stereotype and an example only.). You'd be surprised. Regardless of sexual preference, or preference in general, if a person is portrayed in an appealing manner, nothing else matters.

I think the same goes for the dolls.

Also, just for the record, I would like to add: I am one of those people who admires fat people. Though I know people can't quite wrap their minds around it. Since it seems that most persons say there are people out there who like the pudge with no one to defend it, I'm here to hold up the court on this side!
      ^___^

Also on a side note, I just bought the epoxy-putty to look into making my boy's beer belly and chest. I'm hoping things will work out well, and I'll post the results here! ^0^

    7. I completely agree with you! It frustrates me that to get a mature male doll with some beef to his frame, I have to go 70cm or even bigger. I want my collection to stay in the mid-60s max. Like the new Iplehouse guy. He'd be perfect if he were about 8-10cm shorter. :)

As far as whether people want male or female dolls with a little extra "weight"-- I think companies would find they could sell a body type like that-- you know, not the whole line, but as an offering. For one thing, a lot of the Minimee head owners would like a greater range of available body types. I remember someone was wanting a Queen Latifah Minimee, and the discussion was that you couldn't find a body for her. Unless she loses lots of weight on Jenny Craig, LOL!! :)

    8. I think a lot of people think that these dolls should represent an unattainable beauty. And then you have people like me who would love to see a real life representation in art. But I know that there is only so much you can do with resin. And mimicking the natural folds of skin and body fat would be difficult.

I would like to see an attempt in having a variety of body shapes in the females though. Big breast wide hips, no breast no hips, no breast wide hips, big breast no hips etc, etc. I would like to see a doll with some stomach pudge too.

    9. I've been thinking of sculpting a girl with proportions like that too! :) A figure like that is what I consider to be "classical" beauty. But right now i'm sculpting a MiniGem-sized male who I hope comes out to be a little on the "meatier" side. ;)

I do enjoy the current aesthetic of a lot of bjds. But I also wouldn't mind seeing a fuller bodied doll as well.

BonBon is adorable, but i can't see myself buying her. She wouldn't fit in with the other tinies I'm planning.

    10. ...well, technically, they don't even make the right RACE for Queen Latifah over at DIM (you could airbrush that, I guess?), which also bothers me: why not make tan resin if you can make NS and WS? -- but yeah, for minimee lovers that's a problem they DO have to use their imagination for. For example, the Gareth David-Lloyd MNM currently in the works is totally going to have a more fit, slim body than the man himself. He's not FAT at all, but he has a round face and a bit of a tummy, and his muscles are predominantly in his shoulders, not his abs, which is not the ideal "pretty teen boy" look. (...Now what your ideal "man" look is is totally a different issue :aheartbea)

As to what someone else said about being able to appreciate beauty in a sculpt regardless of their ideal body type - yes, yes yes! Dude, my dolls mostly look nothing like my ideal person. I don't buy them because they're hot, I buy them because they're beautiful, or because they suit my characters. And sometimes I wishlist dolls because it's clear there's an amazing amount of detail and artisanship - like Batchix's Machina, or the Supia dolls.

I think a heavier doll would no doubt be on that list regardless of the fact that it'd be closer to my ideal person. It'd take a lot to make a bigger doll, and I appreciate when my dolls look real and like effort was taken with them.

    11. Personally, I would love a fat doll- but then, I am very fond of larger ladies as a general rule, so having a doll of one would be amazing.

I would also like a more rounded male doll, just to have some variation. :) I think it could be cute and might work well for some people's characters.

Technically, though, I think it would be quite hard to acheive, so I'm not all that surprised that there are currently none around.

    12. Huh, alright, since last time didn't work out so well, I shall put it simply~

I'd love to see some pudgier male dolls. Many of the dolls that have been pointed out for being curvier or thicker have all been female dolls or tinies, and even so, it seems a majority of these 'chubbier' female dolls still have a very nipped in waist with larger bottoms and thighs. I don't think having a female doll with a bit more of a tummy to her would really effect much of her mobility and it would be a nice change. But like I said previously, I'd adore a chunkier male doll even more than a female doll. I'm not talking a huge beer belly or anything, but while I find slim boys attractive, I also find boys with a little tummy just as cute <3

I think most people in this hobby are more willing to see more diversity in women sculpts ( from chubby to athletic ) than they are in men sculpts, as it seems most are happy with their slender males or else are asking for beefier, muscular men. Poor chub muffins :(

    13. As I understand it, tan resin is harder to produce, hence why darker-skinned dolls tend to be more expensive. (And it seems to be more finicky - I've heard more horror stories about tan dolls becoming green or discolored, for instance.) I took it that the darker the color, the harder it is to manufacture - someone correct me on this if I'm wrong.

I've always thought it was a shame that there were no dark-skinned vinyl dolls, though.

    14. I think you're partly right about female dolls, although I personally tend to see less variation in female doll bodies than in male ones. But then, it's all personal opinion- I tend to pay less attention to female dolls, so maybe I'm just being unobservant!

Personally, I would like a fatter male doll to be the boyfriend of a pre-existing character that I have and that I am hoping to get in doll form. A thin doll just wouldn't be right for this guy, so it would be nice to have some more options. ;)

Yeah- that pretty much sums it up: tan resin is much harder to make (and to make well) than NS or LS resin, so tan dolls are harder to come by. And the darker the colour, the harder it is to make. :(

    15. Angharad, I think you're right about the difficulty of manufacture for darker skinned dolls. I was talking to Dennis at Bobobie about it and he said they dont offer the dark tan/chocolate as a standard color so much any more because it's hard to sand without leaving blemishes. I noticed my tan Dollzone doll has considerably more sanding marks on him than my other dolls including my bf's light tan Bobobie Apollo.

    16. I would really like to see a chubby male doll... Since I'm a writer, and my main character is male, BJD-beautiful as regards his face, and he's chubby. His chubbiness is a very important part of his character, and I've looked everywhere for a doll that "is him". I found one - actually I found more than one - but no, the body's too slender, too aestethecly perfect. *Sigh*
Apart from that, I find chubby people extremely beautiful in RL... ask my boyfriend XD

My problem with the "perfect body"-dolls is that I'm tall and slender myself, so when I see a doll with a particularly nice outfit, I think "man, I would like that - for MYSELF!"
A chubby doll would give me the opportunity to create the looks I see as beautiful in others, looks I cannot achieve with myself.

    17. personally i wouldn't like to see a fat doll, just one thats a little chubby. but other than that i see no problem in having one

    18. I'd love a chubby doll.. or even one that's down right tubby. <3
My dolls are modeled after characters I make.. and they vary in sizes...
I've been disappointed in the past because the shape of a dolly's body is incorrect (thank goodness for hybridizing!!)

The bottom line is I like dolls that are unique and interesting!! And I find full figured people beautiful (especially women.. very pear shaped women... *__*) I would defiantly get a fatter doll... even if i didn't' like the face I'd get it for hybrids. <3

    19. Bingo! You are correct. Dark skin dolls are hard to make, and the darker they are the more difficult they seem to be and as you put it, finicky. That's why Bobobie stopped making their dark skin and went to a lighter tan instead and why many companies release tan dolls as LEs rather than standards.

What I would like to see really more than variation in weight, is variation in height. It seems like SD sized dolls are getting bigger and bigger--especially the more realistic ones. I think the big 70 and 80cm guys are neat, but I would love to see more sculpts that style in 60cm form, and more shorter SDs--56-58cm. I like the look of undersized minis and SDs, where they aren't so small that they're in another category, but that they are smaller than average for their scale. It can give them a really great kind of delicacy to them, but unfortunately interest seems to be going in the direction of the very tall.

    20. Yup, I have a pre-exsisting character who would need a thicker, well-built frame which was also prety chubby, where he to work as a doll. However, as already said, the weight may be a problem to re-create in resin as anomalies with how the weight falls in various positions would be so much more noticable than with the slim dolls.

...having said that I'd still adore it if I where able to get my chubby, red-haired, sunkissed skin boy home in resin form ;)
