A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. Ok im changing this cause i realised what i sad was really dumb...I think its cool that you like what you like. And I love that bjds are all about customizing. people can have what they want. I think its a cute idea. =P

    2. I understand the want for a "fat doll". I would like a doll with a body more like my own, though I am on the skinny/lanky side and can't seem to find a doll skinny/lanky enough for me. Some dolls just have ridiculous proportions and if they don't it's because they're "child" dolls. I like the "ideal" bodies for more unrealistic dolls like dollfie dream, but for other bjds I like a more natural body like small-bust Soah. They are very good representations of the average asian female as opposed to CP bodies. Same thing goes for male bodies, I hate all those crazy muscles.

I think everyone bases their dolls on their own image to some extent since we customize them based on our own wants and opinions. However, I doubt any of the major doll companies will ever create a "fat doll" since Korea, Japan, and China are very homogeneous societies and pretty much everyone is built the same way (ie the Soah body). There are many US artists now, so I'm sure we will see one soon! :D

    3. Good luck, have cookie :starcookie

    4. I did see some full figured dwarfish female types the other day, they were tinies though. But I can't remember where I saw them.

    5. Amen! :)

I would love to get a doll that had a little more extra stuff on the sides and thighs. I have yet to see a doll that is sold, having actual hips, actual curves. Curves are a wonderful thing and sexy to boot! :D

    6. those were probably Tinybear's Coco and Bonbon :)

    7. There's a lot of factors that definitely contribute to the lack of womanly, healthy shaped dolls. I might be going out on a limb here, but somewhere, there might be a point. xD

People in this day and age are extremely idealistic. Celebrities almost ALWAYS have to be thin, have perfect skin, hair, teeth ect... just to make it in whatever branch of a career they are pursuing. The media doesn't make anyone who doesn't fit that description feel beautiful.

Right now, at this point in time, people want to see thin, skin-and-bone types of girls. I think this is partially influenced by models. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against models (as I might try being one for a bit) but most of the industry is run by men, usually gay men. That's why the tall, thin girls usually model. Usually, the thinner you are, the less boobs and curves you have, making you look more... boyish, therefore more ‘fit’ to his ideals and such.

I’ve also seen, at least in America, men run most things. The statistics are startling- how many large companies are headed by men and not women, and seeing as more men are straight than gay, obviously, boobs and curves are found attractive.

So dolls, actresses, TV/book characters, ect. ... are usually a result of wanting both. Thin, tall, and have disproportionate breasts. Society seems to have planted an image that the 'perfect' girl is nothing but a barbie doll.

That's a kinda lengthy explanation for what I think might very well be part of the reason female the dolls are shaped the way they are (other than the weight of the resin, posing ect.)

[and if anything is worded weirdly, or I started contradicting myself... it's late. xD I'm tired, and I have to get up for a midterm study session at 8 tomorrow. Forgive me.]

    8. The shape of your body has absolutely nothing to do with how "womanly" you are, nor does being thin equate to not being healthy.

This is hardly a recent phenomenon; every culture throughout human history had what it considered the ideal man or woman, and it was considered as something of importance.

Nothing more than generalizations; I can rarely think of a more diversified grouping of people working under a single art form than I do in regards to high fashion.

Further more, the reason why you mostly see one singular body type on the runway is because there is a need for neutrality in presentation, both visually and in dress sizing. It hardly has anything to do with an ideal image, so far as to my knowledge.

Funny; when I think of Barbie (at least in the general definition), I think of Marilyn Monroe, not the average fashion model.

    9. It's simple....people like what's beautiful and cute. That's why we buy dolls anyway...
      sad,but true :P

    10. So you're saying ONLY skinny can be beautiful?

    11. lol Yeah, but people's definition of beauty varies quite a bit. I mean just look at how some people LOVE some faces and others Hate the same ones, finding them ugly as sin. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. And have you seen how many eyes beholders have?! What if they have like, a different view of beauty for each?

    12. no,ofcourse not. I'm just saying that most people see skinny people as more beautiful than chubby...We find it on tv,magazines, allmost everywhere...Skinny girls with big breast are often presented as beautiful and sexy, while chuby girls are often seen as cute and funny. I'm not saying that only skinny people can be beautiful. but speaking objective, most of us would raither date a person who is skinny, than fat. When it comes to dolls,at the begining they don't have a personality at all. So the only reason why we buy them is because we like the way they look...And most people like that stereotype beautiful look. So that's why there are more dolls that look like that. Yeah it's true that people's definition of beauty varies. but when if we would put a beautiful person next to the less beautiful person and we never met them before, and ask people to pick the one who is more beautiful, most of the people would pick the same person. Anyway,I didn't want to ofend anyone. If I did,I'm sorry....

    13. Heh, I am of asian descent and I fit into the skinny ass boy aethestics of the bjd-dom. And all my dolls have similiar body types to me, except one has abs and another has really muscular long legs O__o

I dunno, but when I'm going to sculpt my dolls, I do want them on the skinny side and such, cuz I'm most familiar to that type, considering I have that body too...

Maybe sculptors are more comfy sculpting what's familiar to them than what isn't? :/

But I find rotound people can be very beautiful if presented the right way... (the media usually bombards us with imahges of barely able to move, sweaty, lazy fat people, which I know isn't true. To be frank, even a skinny person being larthargic, sweaty aand lazy would be a turnoff...)

Heh, didn't being fat usually meant beautiful in the olden days. So your wife could churn butter and such? Also, if you were fat, you were rich, therefore hawt.

I have no idea what happened for today's society :sweat

    14. It is important to remember that these things are media's definition of what is beautiful. Media is not realistic, nor do they speak for the common person. If you talk to normal people on the street, most people think most models and TV stars are way too thin. For example, just look at how Keira Knightley has shrunk since the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie! She was absolutely gorgeous in the first one! I don't know anyone who would say that she is prettier now than she was then--she is painfully thin. Most men like curves and do not like angular, boney women that could break when they touch them. And, as a woman, I'd rather be a little chubby (which I am) than skeletal.

      Just saying... beauty is relative.

    15. yeah,it's best to be in between :P Not too thin, and not too fat. The most important thing is to look and be healthy....

    16. Maybe those of us in the US are more conscious of this because a huge percentage of us are overweight? It's some godawful number like 80% of us are *at least* 20 pounds over healthy weight, myself included. And a very large (pardon all the puns) number of us are considered medically obese.

The *average* women's dress size in the US is 14. Which used to be placed in the Plus-size area of the store. I don't see that so much anymore - maybe retail got tired of being complained at.

At any rate, it's great to be aware of media pushing the skinny at us. It's equally good to be aware that all those extra pounds are not good for you - if nothing else it puts a lot of extra wear and tear on the joints.

But to bring it back to dolls, I find most of them to be of reasonably comfortable proportions. Most don't have a lot of extra meat on their bones, but MOST are not that horrible skinny look (unless there's a reason to be - as in the zombie dolls, etc).

    17. for me,my dolls represent an ideal human being...where they are perfect, never aged...forever in their youth, captured in a moment of time.unlike us...they are a piece of art that represent the beauty of human face and expression...thats why i will never buy a doll that is too realistic that show the flaws of humans....unless i appreciate the flaws of mortal..perhaps someday i may see the beauty of flaws...

    18. "Healthy weight" is pretty much a myth, though. Being "overweight" in no way actually correlates to unhealthiness: there are lots of fat people who have better-than-average cholesterol or heart function.

As a side note, the BMIs, which is what people rely on for labels like "overweight" and "obese", rely on outdated research, and also don't differentiate between muscle mass and fat, or the way men and women carry weight. For example, under the BMI, Brad Pitt would be overweight because he's extremely buff and not super-tall.

It's just a lot of generalizations to make about somebody. Please don't assume you know someone's health because you're looking at them. I think this assumption that "skinny is healthier" is a really dangerous one.

Anyway, back to the original topic: obviously with the number of people watching this thread, I and a lot of other people would clearly buy a chubbier doll. Not just to legitimize my own flaws but because I honestly prefer people with a little bit of meat on their bones. Historically, so have artists: I'm honestly surprised a classical-looking SD hasn't been created yet, given all the nude models available for study in art. Call my tastes Baroque, I guess...

    19. I'm 5'5" at 140 pounds with a 42Bust, 32Waist, and 43 Hips so I've always been on the "curvy" side and would love to see a bjd with the same figure. I have what people call "child-bearing hips" and it can be pretty embarassing because with my chest some clothes just hang and I look much bigger because people can't see my waist. I'm all for bigger bjds sometimes I look at the thinner ones and while I know it's impossible I can't help but think, "damn I want that body."
