1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. One of the problems I have is that some of the male doll faces are chubby or fat and look like they'd go best on a chubby body with a little tummy...but there is no such body available. Putting one of these heads on the normal skinny or "ripped" muscular body looks odd to me.

    2. I would, too ! People come in all sizes, so why not dolls? I'd also like to see some "older" dolls in age, both male and female. After all, who's going to play the old witch, the wizard of oz, bill sykes, king lear, red riding hood's grandmother?

I'd LOVE to have a "tubby" guy to costume as both a clown and an old peddlar, as well as a grandmother-type to play fairy godmother. Wouldnt a tubby old man be great to dress in a victorian waistcoat and tails, with a top hat? The aging vampire? What a perfect foil for the young heroine!

Tried putting a gray wig on my SD once, but it just didnt work. I have seen one 'mature' doll--cant recall what company made her, but she was similar to Tonner/Gene dolls, and was 'heavier' in size. But still young.

    3. I think that it’s hard to file some of this under the "fantasy and ideal" beauty as has been stated several times before that one person’s idea and another’s is very different. To add more to my statement, I would love to have a curvier doll in us size closer to a 12 or a 14. Not morbidly obese but something that was more in the style of the golden age of movies.

Saying that, in my house I have both an Okja and Okki ironically named "Squish and Pudge" they are bigger shaped dolls. And are probably my most well known and commented of my dolls. I find them a very comfortable shape, not just in my hand but posed. A well jointed and balanced doll can pose as long as it’s constructed well. For those that state that the resin costs would shoot up, I can answer that with some knowledge on the subject... it’s not going to raise the price more than a few dollars per doll and that’s if they have to pour the resin EXTRA thick. Which in most cases they would not; it would be more hollow inside. (I am a sculptor).

As for the arguments that go back and forth on the idea it would glorify poor health, that is a much larger issue than dolls. One that mattel has dealt with for ages. I personally find nothing attractive about the dolls with the huge chests and tiny waists and legs. One of the reason I have not obtained a SD sized girl yet, and why most of my dolls bodies are the cp sculpt because the stomachs are softer.

    4. I would love to see more "earth mother" shaped female dolls. As is, I think I have one of the only two, both made by Tinybear. I have a BonBon but there's also a Coco. They are both tinies. I suppose if they were MSD size or SD size they may be a little heavy (which could be solved with hollow abdomen).

    5. ^

You mean like in Earth's children? Or as in 'the mother figure'?

    6. I think it's mostly because people think of dolls as being perfect, and having ideal bodies.... I cna't imagine anyone wanting to buy a fat doll. Maybe they'd have puppy fat, like babies and stuff, but that's about it.

    7. This is precisely my point. If you were to read back even just a page you would find there are at least a few people who would gladly buy an actual 'fat' doll and not just a baby-fat tiny. Not everyone's ideal image fits within the same guidelines and larger dolls can be seen as just as beautiful as their thinner counterparts.

And HikaruKun, glad to know there are others out there as well! And I agree with you completely as my dolls also play out in their own story, so I understand what you mean about it being just a little impossible to imagine that 'perfect' world without any flaws or differences.

    8. Er... sorry... *is embarrassed now*
I was just saying that's probably the reason they don't make a lot of them... that's all... I don't know all that much about BJDs... i'm a noob... i'm sorry... i'll go away... D:

    9. As I've said before on this thread, if I wanted a doll with a "perfect" body I'd simply buy a Barbie or other type of "fashion" doll. I am more interested in dolls that look realistic and have body ranges covering actual humans. I wouldn't expect such dolls to be sold in huge quantities, but since a lot of artists do fairly small editions of particular sculpts anyway, I am sure that someone who made, say, 20 fat dollfies could find them all homes. Tinybear's probably sold that many or more of Bonbon and Coco by now.

    10. Not really..

    11. This is quite a sensitive subject and I don't hold dolls to the same standard as people. I'd love to see more female sculpts with more meat on the thighs and belly. I imagine I might actually have a girl among my boys since I appreciate the curvy shape of a mature and healthy female so much.

    12. My AoD MSD Rao has got some serious booty, but she's also got a little girlie 6 pack XD She reminds me of the tumblers at my gym :P

But I really would like to see a girlie with less crazy curves, and some more weight, my girl does have my dream body, but it would be impossible to get a figure like hers without implants and surgery... (AoD has crazybig boobs and bums) So yes, I want a girl with a thicker waist and heavier legs and a true "natural" body

    13. She's very neat, and has the cutest add I've ever seen for a doll.

    14. Hnnn.... yeah I too dislike skinny, big boobs, barbie-like dollbodies, like most of the people in this thread. But a fat doll really wouldn't appeal to me either.
What happened to just... "healthy"? xD
Healthy comes in so many shapes and sizes. Yes, most dolls could use a little more fat on their legs or arms, around their waist... a little more muscle in the neck and... stuff like that xD But really a fat doll? No, not for me.

I would like to say that the Zaoll body has realistic short legs <3 And the body has that little blob of fat on the inside of the thighs.. it's so cute. The boobs aren't massive either. Some people even thought my girl was a boy XD

    15. Okja doesn't look chubby to me! She looks like an average gal! Very cute!

    16. someone's probably already mentioned them, but I didn't see it as I skimmed the first page. there are BJDs called Fat Faries, which are quite pudgy. Do a search here and you'll find a thread with lots of pictures.

    17. A few months back I saw someone doing a custom sculpt of a very curvy womanly doll. I adored the sculpt but I don't know if she ever decided to sell them or not. If I can find pics I'll post them.

    18. Most people don't want to see anything unhealthy-looking, and generally, overweight individuals are just that. Not all, certainly, but the fact remains that when we see a fat individual, our first instinct is to think they're unhealthy. Having been on both sides of the weight spectrum, neither are generally attractive, so people generally don't want dolls of those kinds of figures. However, for some reason, the "waif" look is "in" right now. That, and in Asia, most people are naturally that thin. Since it's generally in their own likeness, such body types will be portrayed. I do wish they'd minimize the boobs on their thinner dolls though...

I don't really want to see a "fat" doll. I want to see healthy ones, with meat on their bones, maybe even a bit chubby, but not "fat." I also don't want to see ribs sticking out of a doll either.

    19. No one....you mean you don't want to see something that reminds you of something unhealthy, and that is perfectly fine. But please don't generalize and say "no one" since as it's been restated by me and quite a few other individuals, that is most certainly not the case. ;)
