A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. I don't consider any of those beautiful women to be fat. In my opinion, they all look shapely and attractive!

If someone marketed a BJD specifically as a 'fat' doll, I wouldn't buy that doll. If someone produced a BJD with unattractive rolls of fat and a bloated stomach, with bingo wings under the arms and a saggy bottom, I wouldn't buy that doll. So, strictly in reply to the first post; do I want a fat/chubby dollfie? Would I buy a fat/chubby dollfie? Definitely not.

If, however, someone produced a BJD with the proportions and shapeliness of the 'Dove Campaign women', I'd think that BJD had a wonderful figure and I would consider buying that doll! I think Iplehouse EID Jessica has a wonderful, shapely figure, with a thicker waist and strong thighs. She's not a teenage skinny minnie, she has a womanly body. I adore Domadoll Okja, I think she has a cute little shapely body, her waist is naturally curved with a little bit of a belly roll, which looks fine on her scale, in her proportions.

I'm not opposed to a BJD with a natural appearance, because natural-looking bodies are just as attractive as the 'magazine model' look to me, but I object to the notion of a fat dollfie, because I don't find 'fat' attractive. You can be plus-sized and still be healthy and shapely, you don't have to be tiny and muscular to be fit or feel trim, but whenever the topic of 'fat dollfies' are brought up, it triggers images of unhealthily fat BJDs for me, and I find that extremely unattractive and I would not want that in a doll. If you mean womanly and shapely, say so, don't put it all under the blanket term 'fat'.

    2. I completely agree with Jescissa!

I wouldn't buy a fat SD or MSD BJD because the word 'fat' makes me imagine something like this!: http://proverbs.jitterbeangirl.com/news.pagepublication.fat-woman.jpg and that's so NOT attractive! I spend my hard-earned money for something that must be a work of art, something beautiful in my eyes and not some piece of resin that can't even move because of the fatness!

Someone said that a fat baby BJD would be cute and i also agree!! that's the reason why I love pukis, they look a bit fat in certain clothes <3 the clothes make him look fat but this cutie is so adorable , too bad he's out of stock T__T http://www.bluefairyint.com/shop/step1.php?number=377 I want to eat him!!:D

    3. I agree. Sometimes it seems like people tend to focus on either ends of the spectrum when it comes to weight, and forget the countless women who fall in the middle.

That would appeal to me as well. I like curvy bodies with a touch of softness. Not over weight but not super skinny either. It would be a nice body type to have for some of my characters as well as it would be very average woman looking.

    4. I would definitely like to see more child sculpts that weren't so skinny! Part of what makes toddlers so cute is their chub!

As for adult dolls, Domadoll's Ojka and Okki don't qualify as being "fat" in my book, but I think their bodies are gorgeous! I love their softer curves and femininity. http://www.domadoll.com/new/index.htm I wish more female adult doll bodies looked more like this. I just don't care for the super skinny adult bodies whether they have large breasts or not. I think curves give personality and sex appeal. I want to dress my adult dolls in vintage styled clothing, and to do this, they need to have some "meat" on them haha.

The only female dolls I would want to look more waifish would be if they were fairies or elves i suppose...

    5. I think it would be harder to sculpt a "fat" doll. And they may cost more because you would have to use more materials to make them.

    6. i don't think any doll company, especially in east asia, wouldn't market these kind of dolls using the word 'fat'. just like here, 'fat' has an extremely bad connotation. i've heard stories of people going to the doctor for a cold and all the doctor would tell them was maybe if they would loose weight, maybe they wouldn't get sick... (i think this was japan).

i think plus sized would be a much better marketing catchphrase. womanly or curvaceous too.

i would definitely buy a plus sized doll. but then pricing and clothes would be an issue.

i think it gets tiring of seeing the same ideal image over and over, just like people are tired of the goth clothes. i would like to have a 'me' doll. it's nice to have an idealized me, but it would help to be a little more diverse too.

    7. Psh, I've gotten that right here in the US and haven't had proper medical help for nearly 10 years because of it before I finally switched docs. And I didn't get this way from overeating either.

    8. I know people who have had this happen all over the place, I under stand where you're getting at, but Japan and other parts of Asia are really no different than Hollywood. I'm a model, I've done runway, I've done photoshoots, and I still can't say that there is anything more tiring than American attitudes towards obesity. Models and actors/actresses that become severely ill because of this. No, I'm not saying that it doesn't happen anywhere else, I'm just saying the US has a whole lot of it too.

      Fat, as I can agree sounds bad, is the politically correct term now used by NAAFA and the "Fat Admiring" community. It was said to be because it is uni-sexual to both men and women, where as the terms "Chubby" or "Chubbychaser" used to. (If I'm not mistaken, it was when the GLBT groups were largely accepted into the mix. ^____^ ) That's why I think the OP uses the term "Fat," because it's correct in today's standards. It's not the for the sales pitch, the political rather. ^____^;;

As for a doll, as I've said, I'd love to see one someday! Heck! I have two fat dolls already! Out of the two I own! ^____^ I'd love to see more, the more to love right? ^9^

    9. I doubt we would see the word "fat", but Domadoll Okja is marketed with words like "plump" and "chubby". All of the Okja marketing materials on the Domadoll site are referencing her plumpness as an ideal standard of beauty.

It'd be nice to see more dollmakers expand their horizons like that!

    10. well me either. in fact, i just recently got into the risk pool of some new insurance i got. but then they decided that the medicine i'm taking (because i'm pre diabetic) shouldn't be covered by them because it's not necessary. wtf? hello?! that's what's helping not become diabetic!

not that i want to turn this thread into a health care debate. i just think that big can be beautiful and i would like to see that in a doll. but because most of these companies are from skinny, east asia, i really doubt seeing that happening.

    11. In one way id love someone to make a 'chubby' doll but in another way I do dress them up in outfits that I wold love to wear in real life but couldnt pull off so Im not too sure!

    12. i would love to get a more realisic shaped doll! but i doubt they will get much bigger than an iplehouse doll eid body, which have decent sized hips and thigh (but it has HUGE boobs). much bigger than that it wouldn't sell unless it was like a toddler doll....

it sucks but people don't like the fatties too much.... i have a feeling that in 20 years if your fat and eating somewhere your going to get cracks and advice by strangers like smokers do....

    13. The nair Pansey's are a little chubby. They are so cute! I will try and find a link for you

    14. It would be a bit refreshing to see some more dolls with 'meat' on their bones, but the clothing available for them might be severely limited, as well. A lot of the clothes now seem to be so tight that if they were a quarter of a inch larger in any direction, they wouldn't fit. So unless they became widely popular, probably not a lot of clothing would be factory made.

    15. Hmm, I'm not sure about how much more difficult to sculpt a larger around doll. Looking in my girl's body, she's mostly hollow. I think with some planning to upper/lower peices of the torso it could be done without being solid resin.

I'd love to have a larger around doll. I'm always in admeration of many types of bodies. I've also got some serious beef with the promotion of the "ideal" instead of the love of a diversity of bodies. There's something sexy about just about any natural body to me and I really want to see a varity in the dolls too.
That, and I find couples of at least a few wildly differing physical charactaristics to be extremely cute looking to me. Something about the visual dynamic is really interesting to me.

    16. I have to say, I can see how a more "realistically" shaped doll might be more attractive to some people, but it's really about preference and why it is that you like dolls. I like the fantasy that the doll creates so the slighter builds are more preferable to me, at least with males. I would go for a curvier doll if I could get the clothes to fit like a manga illustration, but I don't think it's possible, but I'd love to see someone try.

    17. When I draw I don't draw what looks like me!, well only in that they are usually caucasian and thats only because thats what I know and I am not familiar with the african or asiasn structures of face and body.

I am well padded and I like to have dolls that are my alter egos male or female. On the other hand there is a lady who has sculpted a very realistic Japanese bjd(she is on you tube) shows it all from the sculpting to the very scary animations now that is a doll that would be amazing to have but it is not like me. So do we want realism or just rounder dolls, which is it. the two things are not necessarily the same!

    18. I'm around 5 feet 4 inches, 102 pounds, and I would really love a chubby girl doll. I am a huge advocate of finding beauty anywhere and everywhere, and I would be just as happy with a chubby doll as a skinny one. I think it'd be so cute ^A^ <3

To be quite honest, I'm turned off by a lot of female doll bodies because every once in a while you find ones that show their ribs and what not....that's just a bit too far for me. I'd much rather showcase a healthy doll than a 'beautiful' doll.

You COULD potentially get a skinny doll and mod it to be a heavier one....or just....buy it a larger size clothing and stuff them with cotton balls? Who knows....

    19. When I think of "fat" I don't think of Iplehouse Jessica, I think of Rosie O'Donnell, I think that's more unhealthy than someone with some ribs showing. I know for a fact that I would never buy a doll with Rosie's body type, but I would easily buy Jessica. Doll makers will produce dolls that will sell well and make money. If a company came out with a seriously fat doll, there would be a few people buying it, but compare that to the number of people who buy shapely dolls like minifees.

I do think it would be cool if there was a huge variety in doll bodies, from very fat, to unhealthily skeletal for a dying/extremely sick character, to a doll with huge muscles or a girl doll with huge boobs. Personally, what I really want to see is more dolls with big boobs. Like a lot of people, I want a doll that looks like me, and we aren't all flat chested :( If I were to get a stylized doll of myself, I'd want it to exaggerate my notable facial and body features, like a caricature.

I wish the DM model "lingerie" version girls were standard! :D

    20. I'd love a "realistic" doll. There's so many body types and I will never be as slim and dainty as I was when I was twelve. The Jessica body by iplehouse is close, but the flat tummy just makes me look at my own and want to do crunches.
