A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. Just to answer since it seems this question went ignored, I know I absolutely would. One of my absolute favorite characters I've created into a doll is a young man who'se quite on the tubby side and I was a bit frustrated that I knew all the male BJDs out there would just simply be too thin for him. He was shelled as a DOC as the minis tend to be chubbier than the larger dolls overall but even so I still felt he was too thin and eventually had him modified to give him a potbelly so he has at least somewhat of a proper shape (and if you look back a few pages I know someone else also modded their Souldoll boy to give him a pudgy belly as well). There might not be as big of a market for chunkier male BJDs as opposed to females, but we're definitely out there.

    2. Even if I like my Monzo and my Akando, I'll be very happy to see a fat man. I need one for character! I'm not worried of mobility, if he has just simple joints, it'll be ok to me.

    3. I love the curves the new Judith doll Dollmore offers. She even has a belly! She's not fat, but she is much more curvy than most dolls I've seen.

    4. I like a lot of variety in my doll collection. Right now I'm mostly working on the less costly side of my wishlist (Bobobie and Resinsoul, mostly) but even there, I like owning the different body sculpts, and faces. If I were to show my wishlist' to people, it would be seen that there is a lot of variety in it, though. In all height ranges, from thin to fat, and some that need modding to get them where I want them. I have a Bobobie mature busted mini body that I am modding to be a larger size. Over the winter I've had to put her aside, and not work on her as winter means WAY more time with my boys inside with me, and so less time to work on doll mods. But now that things are starting to warm up again, I should be able to get to working on her again. Along with the girl I'm modding bigger, I have a Bobobie SD that I want to mod to have a serious corset figure, with her big chest, and wide hips, but a TINY waist between! I'm not sure how I'm going to go about the mod, as I'm still in the 'planning' stages on her, but it will happen.

I'd also love to see a pudgier man, too! I know that Tinybear WAS working on one or two to go with her fat fairy girls. I'm also sure that project got put on hold for her, with the things going on in her life right now. But if/when she gets those boys done, I'm sure I'll own a Coco and a lovely, fat man to go with her! I'll eventually own a Coco either way. She's become as close to a 'grail doll' as I've ever had. She has such a wonderful, gracefully fat figure, and such a gorgeous matching face, that I NEED her! My modded girl likely won't get to Coco's lovely shape, but I hope to get her somewhat close.

    5. I would definitely go for a chunkier male doll-- there's a pair of characters I kind of want to shell, but one of them is a big guy, tall and broad with a big belly. And I don't want to 'split them up' by just having a doll of the little guy.

    6. You all have very good points to make guys. <3
I didn't want to upset anyone by my title, I know the BJD hobby doesn't aim to fit any standard at all, or to manipulate us (besides, what would our weight have to do with them?) And I think I need to clarify, I don't just mean big hips, I mean a heavy set girl with a big waist, hips, and thighs. Also, I should say again that the weight of the resin would not be a problem, it is still /hollow/, however, there will be difficulties when working with pose-ability. I think it would be nice to see every extreme of the human body, from the very thin to the very overweight.

And yeah, clothes are a big problem to the usual buyer. I can make most of my own clothes thankfully, so it wouldn't be an issue to me, but anyone else would have to either learn to sew or commission someone to make a costly outfit.

Oh! And boys! Haha, there really is less variety for them, poor things. I love the spirit-doll body and yes, the idealian boys, because they are a little more meaty, however, it would be nice to see a guy just as big but not as 'defined' muscularly. Many of us have characters that aren't body builders! Haha. <3

    7. Thanks for making me want her! :P that tummy is lovely

    8. I'm actually on the opposite end of the spectrum, looking for a female with more muscles. I'm not entirely fond of the 'delicate' and 'soft' female bodies, I want one that's toned and has some abs.

There are a ton of male bodies with muscles up the wazoo, but no female bodies that have even a little bit of a strong look to them... At least none that I've found as of yet... Curvy hips would work extremely well with muscles, but yes, I want muscles!

Seeing some of the perfectly sculpted musculature of the male dolls is what drew me into this hobby. Not the overly muscled ones, but the perfectly muscled ones, who looked like Greek statues.:aheartbea

    9. LOL Sorry 'bout that! I've always wanted a more curvy doll like her and, even though I vowed never to get an MSD sized doll, I couldn't pass her by.

    10. My cousin who is my height and age is very skinny -- I'm not a particularly large person, but there's no way I could fit into her clothes in a million years, lol. She's healthy, but she's finer boned and just naturally little. Her husband is also a bean pole and the two of them ended up having a big chubby baby, lol. It was sort of funny watching them lug him around

If feels like that when these topics come up it becomes this skinny vs heavy thing while forgetting that many women do not fall into either extreme. Suddenly a 'real' woman gets defined as a female who is quite on the heavy side, and I don't think that's right. There are naturally skinny people and lots in between who are just as real and whose bodies are also valid examples of womanhood. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Like all people, I definitely have specific body type things I'm attracted to. Not much into breasts, but love hips, a decent backside and thighs, and a soft look to the tummy without being fat. I would love to have a DD with a medium bust, but the DDDy lower body, but I don't know if those parts are compatible together. When it comes to guy bodies, I prefer them not to have tons of muscles, and I try and keep them under 65cm. I think my tallest guy right now is 62cm.

    11. I'd love a womanly doll. Not "fat" per se, but fat where women generally put on fat the quickest, like boobs and thighs. And more realistic proportions, like shorter legs. I've noticed a load of BJDs have very long legs.
I think I'd like one my own size, as narcissistic as that may be, I'm only about 5 foot 4, but I have D cup boobs and i'm size 8-10 in english sizes which I think is 6-8 in american sizes (?) I'm petite, but i'm not a tiny waif, I loooove womanly curves and I'd love womanly curves in my dolls. I think it's the same reason as everyone else who wants a doll with the same body as them, growing up with tall thin creatures in magazines and on TV, it's nice to know that actually your body isn't ugly and tall thin women aren't the only beautiful women. It's another way of accepting yourself.
I think a more muscular female doll would be wonderful. I'd love to have a warrior character, but if you're dependant on physical strength you're not going to be a thin delicate little flower. It's the same for a lot of male dolls as well, loads of them are thin and spindly. x)
When I start painting and giving my dolls face-ups, I can't wait to try giving them little touches that make them more human. The obvious stuff like blushing hands and feet, but I also want a doll with silvery white stretchmarks on her thighs, a birthmark, a few tiny scars, and a few freckles/moles here and there on her body.
Sorry, kind of went a bit off topic, but I think a lot of this stuff is interlinked. Basically, we want diversity in dolls and if we're going to get that we need to demand it, because companies won't do this stuff on their own accord.

    12. I really wish more companies would come out with less stick thin bodies. Not to say that that is ugly, but more realistic would be nice. Of course, I'm hopelessly in love with girlie boys so I do enjoy some of the skinny boy bodies. I also adore Iplehouse's newer girl bodies, they have so much curve! I just got a JID and though she's just a kid, the body shape gives her a more 'solid' look in the baggy clothes she wears. The SID girls are my perfect girl body right now and if I ever get an adult female, which I don't plan to, it will be a SID girl. I guess I just like having a range of body types. Not all my dolls should look the same, you know? For my planned minis I have the solid JID and I want a wispy Unoa. I'd enjoy the contrast between the two. I'm also in love with Dollmore's Alex Doll body. I'm not crazy about the head sculpt so I'll wait and see if they release any others to form the last of my planned mini girl trio.

    13. Yeah, a buff girl would be awesome-- and that's the thing, chunky doesn't have to mean soft, necessarily, though sometimes there's a layer of softer/smoother flesh overlaying the muscles so that they don't look as 'cut'/defined, but are still built... I like that some girls have strong-looking thighs, but seeing some more in the way of lady biceps would rock out loud, or the combination of a thicker waist with some slightly defined abs to give her a really solidly built look.

Sigh. I still want a guy that's huge-- not in the Iple Superhero Body way, and not really in a fat-fat way, but something between those two. A nigh-immovable slab of man whose got some muscle and some fat both (well, quite a bit of both) and some height (actually, 50cm would be ideal, since my collection is mostly MSD, he'd look super tall next to my other dolls...). The kind of guy you'd want a bear-hug from...

And yeah, I also want to find a girl who's a little more like me. A little smoother, a little nicer, but still, bigger than what I've seen. I prefer to do most of my own sewing, so that isn't an issue to me! I mean, I have a small waist in comparison to my hips, but that doesn't mean I have a small waist, you know, objectively. Ah well.

('Til I find one, that Judith is really tempting me! Since I'm not trying to make a truly me-esque doll, I'm not really married to my own body type, but with Judith I could at least construct a curvier character who'd still be in scale with the bulk of my collection!)

    14. I don't have a fat female character, but I do have a male one, okay, I think it would be cute to have chunkier doll bodies, there's way too many dolls with fashion model bodies, would be nice to have some variation. :)

    15. that doll whose form was copied from dust of doll by leeke, is a perfect example of one of these bodies that some of us are wishing for. i hope the DoD can make loads of them in more colors, because i would like to get one from the french original company, one day. plus it's lovely small... (i think it's a 1:6 size)

    16. Yes! I was so jazzed someone came out with something different for once! Until I saw the original... :( But I do want bigger dolls of different shapes! I'm tired of everything coming out in 26cm less. I want 40-45 even 50cm dolls with some weird proportions and 'cartoonier' more highly stylized bodies. I'm tired of realism. And everything is getting MORE realistic which is very disappointing.

    17. Wow, I missed the whole thing about them and Leekeworld. I will say that is an interesting body, I don't know that it's something that I would own, as it doesn't fit with my group, but I find it pretty appealing because, as you say it is quite stylized. With a very few exceptions, I greatly prefer stylized dolls and would like to see more that buck the current trend towards more and more realism. I think I would be more open to other body types if they were handled in a way that wasn't meant to be such a realistic representation of a human being.

    18. I once saw a body that was out of the common standars, it was fat, big breasts and legs... and the new Leeke doll is kinda fat as well... I wouldn't buy them (no, I'm not against fat people) because, I don't know, for me BJD's are just as beautiful as Elves were to Tolkien: beautiful people!(if u read some of Tolkien's books, you'll understand what I want to say, lol). and c'me on, no one likes being fat :)

    19. I only mind it when people try to point out that my being this way is somehow wrong.

    20. There are people who like being big. And there are most definitely people who think big is beautiful, as well as people who think that ONLY big is beautiful.

I assume no offense was meant, but considering how many people on this thread, especially the most recent additions to it, are saying we WANT big/fat/chubby dolls, I would think it wouldn't be too hard to see how such an offhand comment could be hurtful or offensive. I find beauty in ALL body types, shapes, sizes, colors, and genders. I want some dolls that reflect that. I can't WAIT to be able to afford my Coco by Sleeping Elf/Tinybear, so that I can have my 'big' (being that she's a tiny, heh) beautiful girl! I can't wait to have the time and weather to be able to work on my MSD girl that I'm modding to be bigger, either, because the character is beautiful. Not despite her size, and not because of it, either...just because she IS beautiful. She just happens to be big, too.
