A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. THIS! Half the reason I'm not trying to "shell" my characters into dolls is that a number of them are over forty. My current main isn't exactly fat (he keeps as trim as he can), but he's naturally pretty heavyset, much bulkier than even the more ~muscular~ dolls out there. Not to mention that he's definitely still heavier/softer than he was when he was twenty...or even thirty xD

    2. I wouldn't buy that kind of doll. I don't like the pear-shaped girls that are out there (e.g. the Leeke one) and I doubt I'd like chubby boys/men. It's just not something I find attractive to look at, sorry. No offense, I'm not exactly on the skinny side myself. The aesthetics of chubby dolls just don't do anything for me ...

    3. Coming first from Art dolls to BJD I am loving finally seeing more a variety in shapes in this particular branch of the doll-owner / custom-doll hobby. I love everything through from the Leeke "Art body" through to some of the more slim and elongated forms of Doll Chateau's doll. Why? Because I see human-form dolls partly as a celebration of the enormous variety of forms of human beauty and aesthetics and a celebration of humanity and the nature of what it means to be human much as in any other form of figurative sculpture. Yes, there is the more a-typically stereotypical forms of captured beauty and idealised youth that have been part of the concept of what many have defined more widely as a "doll" for the better part of the last few centuries but I always love most anything that breaks that mould.
Personally, when it comes to rounder shapes, I wish there would be more child-like or toddler-style YoSD dolls that would still fit within the acceptable "abjd" aesthetic and yet be a little more healthily chubby. The scarily anorexic look of, say, Soom's Teenie Gems just looks more unhealthy than a stylistic choice to me...I'd love just a little more roundness to the limbs and belly. But, however, perhaps this is partly coming from me as the mother of 2 young children or as an anorexia survivor myself. Either way, bring on the pears, the papayas, the eggs and the string beans...if it can be a shape effectively made in ball-jointed form I'd love to see it. =^-^=

    4. i wouldn't mind if they'd sell them, the more variety the merrier lol, but it is something that i wouldn't buy, just because i wouldn't have a need for it. but i'd be cute to see some chubby dollies around ^_^ . i am not chubby myself, i am skinny and.... a perfectionist T__T, when it comes to dolls, specially guys, they have to have the ideal body and my girls have to look great too, i just can't picture an overly skinny guy or girl in my collection, neither a chubby one, but the world changes every day and so changes tastes and ideas. if i ever come up with an oc of that kind and find a doll to fit, i might end up getting something :)

    5. I was just thinking about this the other day. If they did sell them I would definitely buy one but I think that clothes for it would be almost impossible to find. I think I would get it because I love the whole makeover thing so it would be my mission to make it look awesome in an outfit. :)

    6. I love chubbier and thicker dolls....I wish there were more available.

    7. well there is the leekeworld makihla and the art body witch is pear shaped to look like a larger body ....but true i havent seen anything else other than someone who modded there bjd to look pregent by adding a piece with magnets

    8. I would LOVE a really chubby doll. I have a Leeke Mikhaila, I want a Doll-chateau tiny and MSD, but I would love some more chubby or directly fat dolls too. Why? Because humans come in all shapes and sizes, and I love that diversity. Reflecting it through my dolls would be a sheer delight.

    9. I prefer smaller dolls because they tend to appear chubbier. I would adore having a chubby doll...I think everyone's ideal body type is different. My ideal body type is thicker, I don't really care for thinner dolls all that much. I find plus size people in the real world more attractive,so they goes over to my dolls as well. I would do anything if someone would begin making them!

    10. theres no market out there for "fat" dolls, so why would creators waste their time sculpting one? i can imagine it would be harder to pose the doll as well. most people dont find being overweight beautiful (this is just the truth, im not going to sugarcoat it).. and the visual aesthetic of a doll is why the person is buying it, right? i just cant see it happening, ever. lets move on ~

    11. I have a thing for thin dolls - to the point that realistic muscular dolls and large busted women dolls do nothing for me. It's not that I think these things can't look great, it's just that I'm more of a slim hourglass/verging on slight pear shape and I do weight training for lean muscle and I like it that my dolls look the same. It makes me feel confident about my shape. I do agree that larger dolls would have a smaller market, but so do Doll Chateu (I want a DC girl body so bad) and they still get enough business.

    12. I would love to see a short chubby grandma-like bjd. i've even thought about making one myself but i suck at sculpting so i've come no-where.

    13. Well, saying there is no market for a fat doll, is plain silly, when this thread has nearly 40 pages, and many people seem to like the idea.
I would love a fat girl in the 60cm range. I don't care, if she'll be hard to find clothes for. I can commission that.

    14. Yes, clearly there IS an interest in fat dolls, even if not everyone wants one. People's idea of "beautiful" is often informed by societal prejudice against fat people, but there are plenty of people who have found ways to work through that hate so they can appreciate more body types.

Also, I think many people want dolls to represent a variety of characters, either of their own creation or as a fan work. And some characters are fat!

I would love a 1:6 scale, mature, fat doll. It's annoying to me when all my dolls look the same (similar body type, similar race, similar face shape). I wish dolls better represented the broad and beautiful spectrum of humanity.

    15. Well.. I'd love a dollfie that was not skinny as most of them... I was really hoping for a relatively plump doll body so I could shell a character but there's nothing I found that was anywhere close to that.

    16. I'm sure the market will eventually expand and anyone who wishes to have a fat/chubby doll may have one as they wish. But... would they make good displayish pieces?

    17. Yes they're is a clear cut market for chubby dolls. I LOVE my art body when I had it. She sat around naked alot of the time just because I loved her body shape! I also like dust of dolls bodies but I really wished they would come in SD size. I also adore doll chateau. More than anything I want variety in my doll colletion and I don't really want a "normal body". I love my fairyland girl but her body is so boring to me! if she wasn't a great poser and a bit thicker than the average bjd I would of sold it for a DC long ago...

I do see that joint system could be a problem, but a talented doll maker would be able to worked around the "extra" resin and come up with something that was functional and looked good...

    18. This thread makes me feel really ugly and gross. I'm not even overweight, but I'm not as tiny and thin as most bjds... I don't know, when it comes to people besides me, I kind of like a wide variety in body shapes. I would probably buy a fat bjd, boy or girl.

    19. I think a more chubby/fat bjd would be pretty awesome. But I'm not sure how the mechanics would work with the balance of the doll and stuff like that. I'm sure a talented doll maker could come up with something though, and it would be really interesting.

    20. Personally, I do not like the pear -shaped girl I think getting or sewing her clothes would be a pain! BUT, I would like a thicker girl if she were out there. That being said, my boy dolls, I rather gravitate to a more muscular body, my IS boy for example. He is so hard to buy for, though! I found him a lovely set of jeans, which fit just fine through the legs, but not around the waist!
