A fat dollfie.

Dec 30, 2005

    1. I've seen one or two small, US based companies make a jiggly bjd, and if I remember the names, I'll post them here. The only doll I consider to be fat is the Leekeworld Mikhaila, and if done with the right modwork, an EID. Personally, I don't think you're going to see much of them, and for good reason too. A puffy doll only works when it's either made of something pliant like vinyl, or is minimally articulated. A resin doll made to resemble a 200 pound man or woman would be fragile, and I think the weight of the excess resin would really mess with the integrity of how it stands, sits, etc. Plus, the demand for them in this hobby is so small, it'd be a waste for companies to make them anyway, unless it was like an LE run.

    2. I'd love a chubby sd!

    3. I'm sure that this has all been said a hundred times before, but I kind of just wanted to throw my two cents in.

Anyway, here's my take on it. I like BJDs because they're almost perfect. They're little ideal people. They're pretty, fit, and well proportioned. I know that this isn't reflective of reality, but it's a very pleasant thing. I wouldn't want a wobbly doll, despite being pretty wobbly myself, because it would push me out of my little ideal world. I can make and buy things that I wouldn't ever look good in, put it on my doll, and be very happy with the result. I'm not saying that I have anything against heavy people, because I don't (just look at me >_<), but a heavy-looking doll is just not something that I'm interested in.

I just don't think that there's enough of a market for a chubby BJD, or series of, and that means that you'll probably never see one that's mass-produced. It's just not financially worth it for the companies to go through the hassle of sculpting, balancing, and producing a chubby doll, not to mention the rather specialized clothes it would require. If a company could have a guaranteed demand, one that would cover those costs, for such a doll, I think that you would see at least a limited run, though. But, until, the demand is there, the market will reflect that.

    4. I would love to see a thicker/curvier adult female sculpt. It's not like you have to make them a sumo wrestler to the point it causes issues with weight lol

    5. I wouldn't want one just because it's hard enough to find clothing that I like for my doll and then I have to worry about, if they are too big for the clothing? I would have to custom make everything...which I don't want to do ether. I would never put down someone who wants an overweight doll. I just don't see myself having one.

    6. It's funny to see this post because I was quite literally thinking this to myself the other day.

I imagine it might have something to do with a much lower obesity rate in the countries that most Asian BJDs are made, but at the same time they really aren't all that realistic anyways. I imagine there wouldn't be enough of a market for it.

    7. With this society.. it probably won't happen, not when a lot of people want to strive for 'perfection.' Unfortunately, chubbier/fat/bigger people are marginalized group, so not a lot of people would even be interested in having a doll that represented that.
While I love the 'perfect' dolls, I would love a chubby doll or even a 'fat' one.

    8. It could work with bodies like tokyo doll and lovely doll (sillicon bodies with internal "skeleton") but not resin BJDs, IMO.

    9. I wish I was crazy good at making 3D models so I could print out a torso for one of my boys! But that's probably not gonna happen. XDD

    10. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the leekeworld mikhaila has quite a big lower half, It would be hard to get clothes for her but she does have some 'junk in her trunk'. ^w^

    11. I probably wouldn't be interested in a chubbier doll...

    12. I think dolls made to capture the beauty of true humanity do tend to fall more on the side of art dolls. And for BJDs, they're humanoid, but they're not human. They aren't supposed to look like us necessarily. I mean, if someone wants to sculpt a doll with more weight on them then go for it, but as previously said, I doubt that sculpt would be very popular because of the original appeal of BJDs to the BJD community. I'm not really informed on the mechanisms of human psychology so I'm just kind of going off the collective opinion I've come across around here. :?

    13. i know the fat happiness of Ringdoll is a fat dollfie. he looks so cute with short height and fat face and body. ^ ^

    14. If I, a rather wobbly very curvaceous woman (even when young and slim, I was curvy) can't find clothes to fit, what chance a doll? Anyway, whilst I don't mind humans being whatever size they want to be, I don't necessarily want a doll to reflect every human variation. Most of us are unsymmetrical throughout our bodies, including faces, but on a doll it just looks odd.

Dollzone MSDs have really wide hips and narrow shoulders, so slightly more human, and I like that. Anyhow, most of my dolls are tinies, so they have cute chubby bodies LOL

    15. I don't know,I think we might see more chubby BJDs in the future. I believe that because I see a lot of pear-shaped dolls and I think the next step could be chubby/fat dolls.

    16. I'd love to see a "chubbier" doll. Not obese per say, but a curvy girl towards the upper end of the healthy range with a nice hourglass figure. Like if you took the bottom half of a Leeke Mikhaila and made the top half proportionate. Maybe if you're really good at hybrids there would be a way to achieve this?

    17. It's not a definite "no". I would consider a chubby darling! The one issue is that: chubby dolls will not fit into clothing and at my house she will look like a hippie. Honestly I wouldn't pay the same for a chubby as a model figure (if not limited ED) because there's so much more to worry about. That goes the same for skinny dolls with protruding bones -- I'm not a fan of the looks BUT it can be done artistically. So unless it is exceptional, I wouldn't buy a chubby darling just to say "hey, I'm non-discriminant". There is a doll mod into a pregnant woman and I liked how she fills out her clothes and it gave her more character. If you make a chubby darling I will be super supportive!

    18. I don't see clothes as that much of an issue really.. Most Dollmore clothes I've owned has a lot of spare room. And you could always buy clothes meant for a bigger size and adjust the arms and legs if it's for a 50-60cm range SD.

    19. Simply put, the market does not show enough interest in owning fatter dolls (Not in regards to yo-SD and other child-like type dolls). Doll companies are businesses, therefore they would sell things that they believe would make them money.

Is it not more likely that someone would buy an "ideal" type body than a "fat" type body?
As much as we love options, having a body type that wouldn't have a high potential to sell well would mean they won't produce it.

For them to produce a "fat"ter doll will mean they will need to make a new line of clothing for it as well which is a huge investment.

However, I love the idea and would love to see someone personally execute this.

    20. Soom's Nappy Choo baby thing is pretty chubby in the most endearing of ways. here's OctoTini's picture:
