Adult themes taboo for tinies?

May 18, 2010

    1. I am REALLY uncomfortable seeing dolls that look like children in sexual situations. Even if the doll's "character" is not a child the doll still LOOKS like a child, and it skeeves me out AND makes me worry about what anyone who looked over my shoulder might think. I avoid that kind of thing pretty strenuously, and I wish it was more taboo than it is to show childlike tinies in sexual situations.

    2. I completely agree with Chibaraki. I find it hugely distasteful when I see obviously childlike dolls being portrayed in such a mature fashion. And I don't think that simply claiming 'but it's just a doll' is an excuse.

    3. As many others have said, for me it isn't the size of the doll, but whether or not the doll appears to be a child. This isn't necessarily a matter of body part ratios either. If you can make your chubby bodied tiny look like an adult creature of proportions different to the average human via faceup, clothing choice, or whatever more power to you. I'm sure it can be done. But at the end of the day, if it looks to me like a child, then I am going to react to it like a child. And if I would be distressed to see a real child doing it, then I will be distressed by seeing a child looking doll doing it. I don't care how many times you say the character is a 6,000 year old vampire. They are your dolls, do with them as you see fit, but I'm going to be grossed out.

    4. Well for me under pure instinct I will be highly uncomfortable with any tiny in any 'adult' situations. But that holds true for immature looking scuplts and bodies, so for me alot of the time its the scuplt that determines the age. But really if a Yo-SD is placed next to a SD my brain thinks 'child and adult' just by default. Adults/teens/children have certain proportions to their overall look and of course thats not exactly the same for everyone but thats what you automatically think. When you see a tiny 'child' is more likely to pop to mind that 'adult.'

Also I have to mention that IF the doll in question still looks like a child then regardless of how old the character is the initial reaction is still the same. Frankly the viewer is not going to care whether or not the tiny is in fact couple decades old and just small/looks young or maybe he was a magical creature that it is normal to look like that and they are adults. Because if they feel uncomfortable at first glance, they will stay that way and most likely never going to read the explanation. No amount of 'explaining' would undermine the first impression given. I think people have to accept that if they are going to do something slightly different from 'norm' then there is a chance it would not be agreed upon.

    5. If it's done for humor/parody then I don't mind it. (something like a puki in a fake mustache and a pimp coat trying to drink a full scale bottle of vodka or something). It's when the doll is a child like sculpt and these things are being done seriously in a photostory that I get disgusted and creeped out. Child-like tinies don't look like adults no matter how you dress or paint them, it's in the sculpt and proportions. (and no they don't look like people with dwarfism, those people clearly look like adults with shorter limbs/torso) If someone is putting these toddler looking dolls in sexual situations, especially if it's with a larger doll, then I'm going to think they're into pedophilia. Like others, I really wish this kind of thing was more taboo. You do get a lot of this kind of stuff, and a lot of positive comments toward it. Sometimes it kind of makes me think that maybe not everyone buys these dolls because they're pretty/cute/whatever but maybe there are those who buy them to act out their pedophile fantasies. :ablah:

    6. Is anyone reminded of an outfit by dollmore named msd sexuality? Frankly, I'm disturbed by sex or sexuality being depicted with any dolls that look like kids. Much less tinies. Don't get me started on pairing one that looks like a kid with an adult.

    7. Same here.

    8. Ya, it isn't strictly size that is being talked about here.
It is all about body proportions. When the doll is proportioned like a small child ... say a YoSD. They have chubby body, hands and feet that are made to look like a young child. It isn't because they are a tiny.
The new Fairyland Chic-Line are minis, generally that size is dominated by immature looking body, but the Chic-Line are proportioned like adult dolls. Then even though they are small I don't think I'll have a problem seeing them do anything.

It isn't the size. It is proportions.
If they look like a child and doing adult themed things, yes. I have a problem with it.
I realize it is your dolls and you can do whatever you want with it, but I should be able to feel uncomfortable with that as well.

    9. It's definitely to do with the proportions. Most of the Yo-Sized dolls are chubby and look like little kids, and putting these dolls in adult situations to share online is probably bordering illegal in some countries.

As for those defending in regards to the 'tiny people' of the world - there are a few dolls that are tiny and have proportions fitting their body types. Domadoll has one that I can remember. The main difference though is that most Yo-sized and smaller dolls look like KIDS, and even the shortest adults tend to have visibly mature faces.

    10. I agree, tinies in sexual situations feels squicky to me. But I find it kind of interesting - and I'm not saying you're being inappropriate or anything, I'm not the doll-role-play police - that most people find it totally cool to dress tinies up as warriors or ninjas or pirates or other obviously violent characters, but find sexual situations taboo. The potential for a bloody, brutal death is groovy but NO KISSING. ;) They both kind of freak me out, honestly, but I think I'd rather see childlike dolls in romantic characters than violent ones.

The only exception to my Sexy Tinies are Creepy rule would be in an instance like Claudia from Interview With the Vampire. An adult mind trapped in a child's body could make for some questionable situations and interesting discussion.

    11. To me they will always be dolls, so the risque photos themselves don't bother me too much. What makes it creepy is the intent behind the photoshoot and the tone of it. And it's certainly easy to cross over into creepy when dealing with sexualised tinies.
If I were inclined to do such a photoshoot in a humorous or somehow more tasteful way I'd still be put off by the fact other people might be looking at it and getting their inappropriate thrills.

    12. Hmm... well I'm not all that bothered by it because they are not my dolls or my characters... I suppose it could be very VERY creepy but the best thing to do is just not look at it if it bothers you that much.....

    13. oddly enough all my tiny sized dolls are adult characters. When I mean adult, I mean one is 22, one is 26 and the other is 29 - and to add to that, two of my tinies' characters are lovers too. However, in saying that, the reason I got tinies is because I couldn't afford to get full sized Soom MDs to represent their characters (Sard was already long out of production by then anyway!), so I ended up going with tinies. I did not intentionally set out to buy tinies, nor did I plan to have tinies representing adult characters. Sometimes I DO sometimes joke around having my boys flirt with each other, however, even I get creeped out at the thought of two tinies going all-out with the adult themed scenarios; so I would personally never take it that far.

Any 'flirting' that does happen in my photostories, it ends up being very mild and more cute/endearing than actually sexy or suave. I even re-wrote my characters' background stories to explain why they are adults stuck in child-like bodies, and I always explain that in advance before I post anything about them - just to avoid offending people.

But I do agree with what others have said that size itself doesn't necessarily dictate a doll's age. I personally think it's the body shape more than anything.

    14. What a perception of sexual intent? There was a photoshoot with a chained puki in prison-ish wear a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't really get the feeling it was sexual. (If you've ever seen Phantom of the Opera and the part where Madame whats-her-face rescues the young phantom it was very similar to that in theme) There was a flame war going in the comments between whether it was appropriate or not. Admittedly, some of the pictures seemed on the edge, but the overall effect was just a sad little boy. I think sometimes it's an "eye of the beholder" thing.

    15. DOA Terms of Service:

"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, violent, hateful, threatening, overtly sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws."

It's not merely a matter of not looking at it if you don't agree. In America, pictures/video of nude and/or engagement in sexual activities while under the age of 18 is against the law, and often considered child pornography. If you're referring to acts between what clearly looks like a child and an adult, that's also illegal.

    16. I think their faces are too cute to imagine something adult-themed for them -___-;
I can imagine rock and roll, but I think that's my limit for the tinies.

    17. The problem with that particular photoshoot was the original title of "sexy slave". In a purely artistic sense, the photos weren't that bad, but suddenly the context that was given through the title made it very inappropriate.

    18. Yup. It really doesn't matter what the "intent" of the poster was (ie if their dolls are "supposed to be older"). If the dolls can reasonably perceived as children, I don't think graphic themes should be posted. It shouldn't be a matter of personal preference. As a minor myself, I should not have to be subjected to accidentally clicking on an offensive link here on DoA. Especially one that violates the laws of my country. >>

    19. ...Oh

I didn't come upon the thread until the title had been changed. >_> Disregard that then.

I definitely don't agree with child pornography or shota or anything like that though... not that anybody said I did but considering the circumstance I'll defend myself a little.

Hmm...I guess that speaks to the whole context thing though, because without knowing that was the original title the feel of the shoot was different. It really is all about how the photographer presents the images in some cases.

    20. Not everybody's Tinies are children. In fact, a lot of people's Tinies are sprites/demons/imps/spirits/putti/faeries/etc.: things that don't have a birthday, and might not even have Time.

My Rei-Tenshi drinks and swears, and my Lotus Nears are constantly smoking a hookah. They're imps, not children, so there's no problem as far as I'm concerned. If any viewers have any problems with any of it, then they must be coping nicely all by themselves, because nobody's complained to me.
