Adult themes taboo for tinies?

May 18, 2010

    1. sex isn't kissing
Clover could kiss a tiny, though its just a kiss
kids kiss, nothing omg about that

the fighting of the giant insects and dragons is done in a comedic manour

    2. Personally, seeing the truly child-like dolls, like Pukis, Brownies, Pukifee, and Little Fee, in adult scenarios makes me a little uncomfortable.

That said, there was a recent photoshoot - forgive me, I don't remember whose it was - of a Puki in bondage. It wasn't erotic so much as just poignant and beautifully photographed.

    3. Oh I get that, and I agree with you. It's just sort of interesting that people are generally more accepting of implied violence than implied sexuality, particularly in the childlike dolls. Warrior puki = cute and humorous, tired hooker puki = really creepy. I have the same reaction, just find it kind of interesting to mentally poke it and see where exactly that line is, ya know?

    4. For me it isnt the sculpt, its the charecter. If charecter is kid, then it should be treated like one. But if its something else, tehn.. Well.. What that charecter would do?
I have pukipuki, sculpt is kinda child, but charecter is about 5000 year old muse. So no, i dont think its taboo if it fits charecter.

    5. Well when you think of the content of children's books, there is plenty of implied violence, but not much implied sex (definitely not in the minds of innocent children, when they look at the books). So it is much a cultural thing in one way, but that being said, tinies in sexual or drug abuse or suicidal situations is just really creepy in my book. It is terrible, just terrible, if children are ever in these situations so I don't see why they must be glorified, or even explored without being glorified... there isn't really any reason to 'explore' issues like these. If you have a child character who is in a situation like this.... well then is it really necessary to make a doll of such a character? I mean I would ask the same to anyone who dwells on a child character in these situations, dollified or not. Sure many characters have traumatic childhoods, but I'm talking about dwelling on these things for their own sake or entertainment. I am disturbed by what psychology would have a person take such joy in owning a tiny that sits around with bruises and cut marks because they are suicidal from the frequent sexual abuse of the local SD. Wth?

    6. I think a lot of that is probably because "warrior tiny" could be very vague and doesn't bring to mind real violence where a sexualized childlike tiny brings to mind child rape/molestation. Most stories with a child warrior don't have the character seriously injured or in fear of death, and they don't really kill their opponents, just "defeat" them. I think if childlike doll "violence" was more along the lines of a little doll getting physically abused/beaten or abusing others/murdering people, then people would have a problem with it. (I know when I used to read HP fanfics there were a ton of people with some kind of child abuse fetish and it was extremely disturbing)As far as photostories, I've only ever seen cute stories such as: the tiny fights a plush dragon, defeats it, and then they become friends, share a bandaid and fun is had by all.

    7. Is a child involved? We're talking a real, live, under 18 child.

Is it posted anywhere a child would be exposed to?

Is the person doing the photoshoot a child themselves?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions then yes. It is wrong. Otherwise, I don't really care what people do with their dolls. It would bother me if there was a human child involved in the process at all but if a real child isn't exposed to it, it doesn't bother me.

    8. Like most people, I am of the opinion that its gotta do with character. It may make me feel a little uncomfortable if the proportions are really very childlike and therefore, to me, screams child, but if your character is an adult...I don't mind ^^;;

    9. I wish that were the case anymore. I agree, moralisticly (no harm done to real children, no intent to harm real children, and I don't care. I care when real kids are involved), but legally it's come to the point that even things that 'look' like children (and this is a stretch, even 'The Simpsons' characters are apparently 'children' when they look very stylized) are taboo when it comes to adult situations.

"Not everybody's Tinies are children. In fact, a lot of people's Tinies are sprites/demons/imps/spirits/putti/faeries/etc.: things that don't have a birthday, and might not even have Time."

Yes, but they still look like human children. There is a law in .. I think Europe..? that now says even 'demihuman' children can be classified as child pornography and abuse, among other things. Which means yes, a Soom tiny that looks like a little demon could still pass for a 'human child' and wind a person in a lot of legal trouble if photographed in risque situations.

    10. Possible trigger words below? Just a warning in case you're sensitive even to the mention of possible abuseful situations.

      ~

I guess I'd have to say it really depends on the intention of the artist and the specific situation being tackled. If there was something truly disturbing like Child Doll A with Adult Doll B in a sexual manner (especially if it's consensual), then yes, it would make me kind of crinkle my nose, leave the page, and not likely ever visit anything by that person again. However, adult theme does not necessarily equal sexual theme. There are other topics that are faced by real kids - abuse, living in neglectful homes, being coerced into drugs, etc. Would it bother me to see Child Doll A bruised with Adult Doll B looming over him/her in a very ominion way, then I would be disturbed but not quite in the same way as with a child being sexually abused (or even more disturbing, some sort of sexual act the child doll initiated because that could be very indicative of even worse abuse elsewhere) and I don't even know exactly why that would bother me less. I guess because our society puts such a gigantic emphasis on avoiding and punishing sex crimes, they become the worst of all crimes. (This is not intended to spark any sort of debate on which crime/abuse is "worst", just a statement of what most kids are taught/observe through media and movies.)

Tinies that ARE children in consenual, sexual situations are very creepy to me. Tinies that are children in abuseful situations are very heartbreaking to me.

Now, what about tinies that aren't children? As someone pointed out, what about Claudia from IwtV? She's in a child's body but is very much an adult in her mind. Really, as with almost anything in the world, one must consider context of things before they can immediately pass judgment. Do I particularly want to see a tiny (say, LittleFee Ante, one of the most innocently adorable tinies who is portraying Claudia) in a sexual situation with an adult (say, MiniFee Someone, one of the dolls whose names I do not know who is portraying Louis)? No, I'd rather not. But the intentions of the artist were not to portray something unspeakably horrible (wait...vampires are pretty unspeakably horrible... But I digress, and you know what I mean!) but to portray two consenting adults in an adult, sexual situation.

I guess I could summarize by saying I am slightly disturbed by children in any adult situation, be it sexual, abusive, drugged, etc. but it's a fact that children are unfortunately exposed to these situations. If someone wants to portray these things happening, then that's fine. It's every observer's choice to look or to not look, and I feel it's the artist's responsibility to label their art as what it is so someone who would rather not see it doesn't accidentally look at it. Some sensitive topics like child abuse can be serious triggers for people who have experienced it and it just seems callous and cruel to not be considerate enough to warn people of what they are about to get in to. This all said, am I likely to ever photograph/draw my child dolls in adult situations? No, they are fortunate to live in a clean, happy, perfect world. But not all children do.

    11. Like a lot of people above have all ready stated, its not so much in the size of the doll, if someone would make an SD look like a small child and depict it in sexual poses, it would gross me out just as much.

Some of my Elfdoll tinies have bodies with much bigger boobies and a more mature looking body than mine, and I'm over twenty. Ok, im more than 10 years over twenty. Now, i wouldnt pose them explicitly, but it wouldnt bother me if someone else did.

    12. I think there are plenty of non-pedophiliac reasons for someone to want to do this. Because their tinies are adults (or sprites/faeries/etc who may resemble children but be old as the hills), because they're working through a personal situation in their past through their stories, etc. The doll owner may not have any "intent" towards children whatsoever, but for whatever reason, has a tiny who looks like a kid in a situation like that.

I bet that owner is likely to feel really self-conscious about it, though... And I think that's kind of sad. If someone wants to use their dolls to just work through their feelings about something that happened to them, or if they just want to have adult characters in the story they're interested in, but they feel embarrassed/awkward about doing it because there is a giant taboo... I feel bad for those people! I think there should be less of a taboo, not more.

All that said, even if someone *did* have a touch of pedophilia towards their dolls, I'm glad they've found a harmless outlet for it that doesn't involve real children.

    13. I can imagine wanting to explore it because it's a part of life, and it might feel dishonest not to. The same reason anybody makes art about the things we don't often talk about: because we don't often talk about them, and to some people, that can feel like leaving out a part of life.

There's a lot that, because of the taboo about exploring any child-related sexual situation at all, we can't talk about even though it happens. For example, 13- and 14-year olds often are sexually interested in their friends, and yet you (I assume, given the state of things in this culture) hardly ever see fiction for that age group that describes how that feels, even though that age group would be interested in reading it, because it speaks to their experience.

Someone who once had a crush on a same-age friend or an older friend at that age might have fond memories of that, and might want to explore the nostalgic feelings through dolls. Or people might want to explore a non-consensual sexual situation because it happened to them, or because they don't understand how it could happen and want to understand the world better, or because this happens and they are interested in exploring the real world as it is, warts and all. Or they were suicidal when they were a kid, or their friend was and they want to understand... or they just think the sculpt of that particular tiny fits their older (demon/fairy/fantasy etc.) character, and that character has bonded with that doll's sculpt now and they want to portray that adult character as they really are. So many reasons, really, and as long as no one is being hurt, I don't think any of them are wrong.

    14. I find this highly amusing, considering all the valued art on display in Europe with putti (cherub-types, semi-morbidly overweight -- usually male -- babies with wings, usually naked or with only a wisp of cloth). Aside from the more chaste religious art, there are plenty of "classical" depictions of them lounging and flitting about with semi-clad adult women and other adults, as well as being often posed provocatively. I've always regarded them with a capital "Eww." (Control the Putti, not the Puki!)

      Cyberspacegirl:
It's all relative to age. I'm finding out that as we age further along, some of our bodies start to return to a decidely more Littlefee silhouette and height....

    15. I can see people being uncomfortable with adult-themed tiny exploits, but it's never really bothered me. Mostly because the models in question are, well, dolls. No real human being can possibly be exploited in a doll photo shoot, unless someone gets roped into carrying the equipment against their better judgement.

But, I have a Volks Mamu who reads Nietzsche and considers dead bugs toys while in-character.

    16. Looking like human children and being human children are completely separate things. This isn't a discussion regarding law. It's a discussion regarding personal moral in regards to photo shoots. Unless there is a human child involved, I feel no moral qualms with these portrayals. Involve a real child however and sign me up for that angry mob.

    17. I read your edit post to express your intent. If you are considering posting photo stories using tinies to help work through issues, you are going to have problems with people cringing with disgust.:

"What about children who have been abused, how they deal emotionally with their issues? These are adult themes, too, and also sexual themes. Do people who have experienced these problems personally, not deserve to have their stories told through this medium, so that they may feel supported, and less alone? Are they condemned to only play/write the "safe" child stories of "The trials and tribulations of baking Sunday cupcakes"? Not all of us have had that kind of happy childhood."

This is not the venue for that kind of therapy. Maybe it exists somewhere, but posing child-like dolls in situations that depict abuse, especially sexual abuse or themes, is not only inappropriate, it's not allowed on the forum. Thankfully!
Just because it happens in real life, doesn't mean the rest of us want to see it or support it. So, YES ~ it is tabboo.
It would also give the disgusting seedy types a venue for their perversion. If one were abused as a child, THIS would be the LAST thing they would want to display or promote!

    18. The OP just said in their edit that they weren't talking about allowing it on the forums or any other doll community, but about acting these things out elsewhere. Your comment about how it is not allowed on the forum is irrelevant to their edit and your comment that it's inappropriate is nothing but your own opinion trying to speak for the rest of humanity.

Just because you don't want to see it or support it doesn't mean that the rest of us don't want the freedom to express it or work through issues with it.

I'd think that abusing real children would be the last thing, rather than giving the "disgusting seedy types" a VENUE to get out their feelings without hurting any real people. Aforementioned "disgusting seedy types" probably didn't choose to be attracted to that sort of thing, and rather than clamp down on it so that the only way they get to look at children is when they're around real children, it might be good to let them get it out harmlessly with dolls.

    19. Well...an "adult" is someone 18 and older, correct? How many of us have dolls that are younger than that in "adult" situations? Well I for one have a character that is 15 years old and he's a male prosititute. And then my character who is 20 finds him and wants to save him from the troubled life he leads. He takes him into his home so he doesn't have to do unpleasant things for money in order to survive. And then typically they fall in love. Yes, it is a homosexual relationship. Yes, it is illegal. And yes, to a lot of people, it would be downright disturbing. However both of my dolls are SD sized....but that's not the point.
But the world is not all sparkles, rainbows and butterflies. Things happen. Not-so-good things. Every waking minute of every single day. Are we supposed to portray these unfortunate events through our dolls? Probably not. But it's our choice if we want to apply something we've seen in real life to our characters.
As sickened as I am to say it, I've read stories and seen news reports of children as young as ten having sex, doing drugs, and drinking alcohol. I've even seen children kill in such reports. Of course this isn't a pleasant thing to hear of, and it certainly isn't typical, but it is out there.
I really don't think it makes someone sick. As long as it's done properly. If you're going to show a tiny snorting crack and having anal sex with no story or explaination...yeah. It's going to be taken the wrong way (to the extreme). If it's carefully executed however, it may actually turn into something new, interesting, and different from the average story.

Well...that's just my two cents :/

    20. I must confess that I personally sort of jumped into the middle of the debate, without knowing the intent of the original post. ^^; But now that I've read it, I think that it would be completely unreasonable to find fault with what you wish to do.

If you'll permit a tangential response to one of your comments, though, I will say that I think there are probably some posters who want to write stories using tinies that contain some mature content, and do wish to share them with a community (if not necessarily this one). Stories are made to be shared, after all. I think it's a shame that these people can't do that at all (not just on this forum, but on pretty much any forum, since they tend to have rules against dolls that could be construed as being minors being shown in adult situations, for sadly obvious reasons). But that wasn't the point of your post, admittedly. I just think it is a shame.

I do wish you the best of success with your original project, and I think it's a perfectly sensible idea.
