Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Adult themes taboo for tinies?

May 18, 2010

    1. I say at the end of the day they are your dolls, you're free to do what you like with them. they aren't real kids. I've seen some little ones with beards that are fairy types or enchanted.

Personally I'm new to tinies but my tiny will be about 5 so he won't even know what sexual themes are.
If you wanna give you tinies adult characters why not, you aren't hurting anyone.

    2. I think, even with a PG13 rated story, using tinies that look like children would be ... let's say I'd have a hard time taking it seriously. Unless you're writing a parody (example: those fantastic Puki Trek parodies in the galleries), I'm highly doubtful a serious story would work well. The results would likely end up being hilarious whether intended to or not.

Putting all squick-factor aside, you can claim a tiny is sixteen years old all you like, and have it portraying typical teenage behavior in the story, but if it LOOKS like a five year old, you're never going to convince me it's anything else. The story will likely just come across as ridiculous and I won't be able to take the subject matter seriously at all. Sorry, but my suspension of disbelief only extends so far.

    3. Gah. These are dolls. I think a person should be able to do what they want with their own dolls. AND that others are free NOT TO LOOK AT IT if they are squicked.

Dolls can't have sex. They are dolls. The whole business with hiding doll bits is just ridiculous. Just what is pornographic about parts of the human body? Particularly if they are hard and sculpted and totally unable to perform any acts? Geesh.

People are way too PC about child-like dolls, too. There cannot be any abuse happening when they are just dolls. Sure, the concepts can be disturbing, but these are still just dolls. No child has been harmed. And actual acts can't happen with solid resin. Sure, they can be suggested! Sure, that can be sick. But it's still only dolls that are being used and things suggested. AND a lot of it is in the mind of the beholder. As others have said, sometimes the doll looks young, but isn't.

In real life, pity the poor adult who looks childlike. They must squick people out all the time. So is it fair that just because they LOOK young that everything they do with another adult may look sick and suggestive? Or should we all just try and NOT jump to conclusions just because someone or something LOOKS young?

Or, as the OP amended, just assume all adult themes mixed with childlike things must be sick-o? Adult themes, as they said, is not just sex. But that's where everyone's mind seems to go. I think people need to try and grow up and try and reason things out without just over-reacting without considering everything involved.

    4. Generally tinies are perceived as small children, but depending on the character and that character's situation, I'd say that really it's the doll owner's dolls, and they can do whatever the heck they want with them. That being said, a 1/8 Pukifee shooting up heroin and talking about how their parents used to beat them with a brick might cause a moral outcry of the people who use dolls as fillings for holes where children, pets, or other such things would otherwise go. Again though, this is the doll owner's decision, as they were the ones spending a buttload of money to get the doll, so they have the right to stick it in a food processor and drink it if they want to, and nobody but poison control has the right to tell them otherwise. (I hope no one actually does that though)

    5. No. No theme is too taboo for any of these dolls, no matter how adult it is.

    6. I don't think there's something as taboo even for tinies. If your tiny dolls are representations of adults then anything is fine.

    7. As long as the age is stated about the characters. Then I don't really have an issue with it. No matter how small or child looking they are.

    8. Hm...

I think as long as the poster is sensitive to the reactions of their potential audience, and the rules of whatever forum they're posting on, then they should do the stories they want to tell. It will take disclaimers, and they'll need to understand going into it that there will always be people who won't like it, but then again, those people don't have to look, and at the end of the day, our dolls are inanimate objects that belong to us and can be used in a range of artistic pursuits.

I have a tiny who was purchased to be an adult character for me, but I wind up taking photos where he 'plays' a child, so to speak, because that is what he looks like, and because it's easier (and cuter!) to dress him like a kid... So, in my mind, and in the stories I've written, he has adult worries and issues, and out of my current resin crew I think of him as the most mature and levelheaded even though he looks the youngest, but I wind up not trying to do any photostories about him paying the bills or anything... (he doesn't lead a very wild life anyway, so it's not like there would be drugs or crazy sex with this one...)

Still, I know if I did do a photostory portraying adult themes, I'd want to disclaimer it. Closest I've ever come is photographing him with an in-scale crate of tiny 'wine bottles' while he was dressed as Eros...
