Afraid of black wigs?

Apr 24, 2007

    1. We have one cursed black wig. It left stains so bad on one of our dolls. It was starting to leave stains on another, but we got rid of those and stopped using the wig as soon as we saw that.
So yeah, I'm kinda afraid of black wigs. The mohair black wigs aren't too bad though.

    2. Hmm, most of my characters have black hair or at the very least exceptionally dark brown hair and my little Sam, whom I'm currently waiting on, is going to be dyed tan and given black hair, bough equally the DragonDoll YuShen I'm lusting for needs to have exceptionally pale skin and black hair. My fame is all Jewish and we all have very black, black hair so maybe that's why it always seems like the most natural hair colour to me. As far as eyebrows go, you really don't need to have black eyebrows with black hair in real life, my brother and mother have dark brown eyebrows and my fathers are no vey grey even though his hair is only grey by his ears.

    3. I love black hair on people and dolls...so several of my dolls do wear black wigs (synthetic and mohair). Only a couple of the synthetic wigs left staining (which came off with cleaning). I found what works for some of the darker dyed synthetics (such as Leekeworld) is to gently wash the wig a couple of times to remove any excess color, and then let air dry. I also stuff some clear white tissue or paper towel (plain, no colors) inside the wig while it's drying to help retain shape/sizing. Works nicely.

    4. I love the black hair wigs. I have two carina's lt brown that have to have the black wigs. One is the belly dancer Carina with Iplehouse face up and black hair looks the best. The other carina is a custom face up and her colors are bold and black works beautifully on her.

I had heard black and some dark colors may stain, and in fact my iplehouse dark brown wig did stain Luo, but that's his look so he's staying. I thought the staining occurred because of the wig cap not the hair itself. Am I wrong in this thinking? Does the hair itself stains the dolls?

      Thanks for any information.

      Bren =0)

    5. It's weird because I have one black wig that stains, and one that doesn't... o.O But my worst staining wig of all is dark brown wig (actually, the inside wig cap part was black, perhaps that was doing much of the staining). I finally decided to not use the badly staining wig and alternate between staining and non-staining wigs once in a while. My doll's head is already a bit stained but I'm not too bothered by it since it's covered anyway..

    6. I am not afraid of any color, although I d ohave general preferences which do not include certain colors. Maybe you just don't like black hair for your dolls?

    7. I'm not afraid of black wigs, but I've found that very few of my boys can actually wear them and look good. (The fact that I usually ask for face-ups that work well with auburn probably doesn't help. lol)

Only two of my boys have black wigs that are absolutely, positively their 'defaults' that they wear all of the time. One is my NS Soom human Chrom and the other is my CW Soom Sphaler. (Odd that both dolls are Soom, now that I think about it...) Both have very dark/black brows and lashes, so the black wigs sit very naturally on them.

    8. Jeremy, my HZ Wang-Ye is my first doll and his default wig was red, but since the character I had in mind didn't have such hair, I went looking for a long black wig and actually ended up finding one which was perfect. Now, mind you, both items were from the same company. Once I received him, I thought to myself, "Wow, his face up is quite dark compared to the promos." Now...My third doll is a 5Star "Tumnus" and as some of you may know, they don't display any of their wigs on their official website. I requested a long blonde wig and a pair of blue eyes. After literally four months of waiting, I was quite surprised to find that his face up was incredibly light compared to his promos. And then it hit me... The artists kept in mind the wigs, and used colors that would correspond. So my suggestion for those who want a wig to mesh with their faces, try and find a wig that is either light or dark, ask for that wig, (even if it isn't right for the character) and the face up should be perfect. Then of course you can get the wig you really want. ;)

    9. I have had the same issue. Sometimes it's a matter of just being to close to the doll wearing it. Take a step back or take a photo and it may offer a different perspective. However I have noticed alot of dolls just can't pull off the look.

    10. I love black wigs!

    11. nothing to do with staining, i've just never been a fan of them, i love black hair on people but not dolls, almost like its to contrasty, to vivid, i've often seen lots of dolls with great looking faces ruined with a black wig.

    12. My RS Mei used to have a white wig with pink tips -
she looked sweet and innocent in that look.

I made her a black wig yesterday - and from one second to the other the sweet little girl turned into
a personality with attitude - boy, was I suprised.
I never had a doll wearing a black wig before, but on my Mei ( who used to be "Heather" with her white wig,
but now I am not so sure about that anymore .. ) it looks wonderful and mysterious.

    13. One of my girls has white skin, pink eyes, black eye makeup.. & always manages to get the black wigs that I buy for everyone. :|

After posting to a thread that was about if you dress your dolls for yourself or them.. it sort of had me thinking what if I did what I wanted to do ! So now I have one very miffed girl in a blonde wig!

You never know you might find a black wig that is styled in a way that fits your doll's personality.. you never know.

    14. I love black wigs but only a few of my dolls are painted to look good in them.

    15. I'm very wary of dark wigs in general. I use wig caps. The fur ones seem to be ok though.

    16. I dunno about contrast having anything to do with it. My Dear Mine boy is pure white, and I mean white as snow, with a brightly colored faceup and black brows, and his wig is jet black. I can't imagine him in anything else, really.

    17. I like dark wigs. I like the oriental look :)

    18. My wig collection breaks down into two color groups, black or ash blond, with the odd platinum or auburn or somesuch thrown in. I have two major costume theme projects for my doll tribe, one is earth-toned Heian kimono and the other is icy blue baroque fairytale. I don't find black wigs overly harsh and I haven't encountered much staining, most likely because I don't store my dolls with their wigs on.

    19. I love the contrast of black wigs on dolls with light skin. I was afraid of staining for a while, but not of the way a black wig looks when worn by a doll. After all, a wig isn't permanent. n_n
