aGatti Doll - part 2

Aug 24, 2016

    1. Missed delivery. Gah! I will pick up the body in my lunch break tomorrow (sounds dodgy). Thankfully the post office holding it is just over the road from my rooms.

And Edmund continues to haunt me. I am afraid I have to have that head (also sounds dodgy). I can't remember who is up for this next PO (I could go back a page, but meh). I think it is two Guarvo versions and either Alfarr or Daniel. That makes this the LE portrait. Who is it? Anyone know? The plan is on the first page of the first part of this. I don't recognise half of them and am hoping it's not someone I don't like, or that would taint it. But look at that liddle face!

Bahir is here. He's on the shorter mAA body which I love, love, love. The engineering of the joints is much nicer and he stands unassisted right out of the box! Love his gentle smile. What a cutie! And the handpieces have a little longer wrist that makes them less apt to fall off unintended.

    3. @Therealwalter, looking at your photo, it seems that the mAA and mCCC body could easily swap hands, it would just require restringing the arms on the mCCC to put the mAA hands on it. If that is indeed the case (I already suspected it), I'm definitely going to need to order a full round of the mAA hands in a couple of colors in the next preorder that includes that body. I don't have any characters in mind that would suit that body, but I really prefer those hands over the mCCC and mCC ones.

    4. The hands in my picture are the "pencil holding" pose hands. His standard hands are very similar to the other bodies.Because the wrist pieces are different, these hands cannot swap onto mCCC by the magnetic attachment but if you could get the wrist piece (which is not offered separately with the hands) then it could be restrung onto the other bodies, I think. But you would need to specifically ask for the wrist pieces and see if it was possible to order those.[IMG]

    5. Nice! I feel she has stepped up a gear with the mAA, particularly in the carving of the hands and the handling of the knee and elbow joints. I am still not sure what it will look like with an mCC head on, though. I will find out today, hopefully.

    6. And I collected the body from the Post Office. I forgot that Natalia uses rings rather than S hooks and you have to unstring the whole body to put a head on. Doh! Anyway, he now has an S hook and is wearing my Misha head. Natalia's warning that one should only put mCC heads on mCC bodies made me rather concerned that she had tried this combination and it had looked ridiculous. Well, it really doesn't. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is perfect and much more like Misha Collins' actual build than the mCC he came with (which is what I had hoped). The neck socket fits perfectly on the neck and the shoulders look perhaps even wider on the mAA than they do on the mCC, as they don't have that shaped arm area. Overall, it gives the impression of a naturally proportioned, slightly stocky man. Love it.

Isn't it great when risks pay off?

And echoing Walter, loving the elbow and knee joints. MUCH better, both aesthetically and in terms of stability. And she has done something genius that I have not seen done before. The elbows look like ordinary hinge joints, so ones that only bend up or down. So, you lose the flexibility to roll the arm over the body, as you can with the mCC, for the sake of a nice, stable joint. Only, they aren't. The lower arm can rotate around the peanut. So, he can put his arms over his chest! Not to the same extent as the mCCs can, but the fact that she has found a way to do that at all with a hinge joint is just... That woman is genius. And this is why I seem to buy something from at least 50% of her POs.

If I can revive myself after a loooong day at work, I will see if I can take a photo of the combo. I think Edmund would look preeeetty good on the mAA as well...

ETA: I'm not risking eternal damnation by making a triple post, so sticking this in here. mCC vs mAA vs Dollshe Fashion 28M. Even though the mAA is now the same height as the 28M, the Dollshe is still not from the same universe. Because of his build, he is now a short tall chap. Ah well. I will have to keep them all separate. The neck looks a little short with the Misha head, which I can't figure out as the neck socket fits perfectly on the neck. However, until I get into one of my meticulous, perfectionist moods, I think that works fine and now looks more like Misha Collins' build. So, yes, at least some mCC heads can work with the mAA, if you need a broad, stocky body.

    7. Everyones' aGattis are looking fabulous! Love how real they look, even without the faces painted!

Heh . . had to laugh, when Margitan told us the 'undies' weren't on Tony when he was opened. So much for modesty in the cuss-tom offices.

Those beautifully detailed hands . . . Hands are one of the things Natalia does so well. Walter, are your two in the #2 and #3 resin shades? Both are lovely skin tones, and look as though they would blush for perfect natural tones.

Are the aGattis strung very tightly? Was curious as to how difficult it is to switch out heads . . .

Very interesting how each artist sees the body. All are different and you see them reflect actual people we see daily. That shorter neck is not uncommon in very powerfully built men. So it really does have it's roots in the human actuality. Thanks everyone for sharing your photos!! It really helps when waiting, to be able to see many views and styles in the BJDs we are so eager to have in hand. And how your characters come to life . . . :)

    8. ahhhhh she opened the next preorder phase and wow. I think I´m getting a lot. This will probably the biggest doll purchase this year for me ^^"
But i was a good girl this year and saved a lot of money for exact this (well I was till I found creature doll will closing this month and I bought Karin because she was love at first sight at her release. now I can´t paying full like planned u.u)

This far I have on my list:
      - full ALFARR in no 2. Gosh I waited months for him and even my boyfriend thinks he is a handsome must have
      - normal Guarvo head because why not
      - deer Guarvo head because why not part 2
      - Edmund head in no. 3 because he may fits one of my characters
      - holding hands, hands no 2 and no 1 to mod it into gloves

I may also squeeze in a seccond body in no 1.

I plan to order next week after our trip so that the first part of the required payment is this month and the second part next month. For the Guarvos I have no real plans but they are nice heads but will be body sharers for sure. I have no place for a resin army ^^"

      I´m so excited!

But the prices haven´t raised that much.. or I´m wrong? Haven´t compared it with the last preorder yet...

    9. Nooooo I wasn't ready! I might try to get a Guarvo head.

    10. I fell off the agatti train for a few months but when I saw her latest preorder pictures up today I had to come back! Alfarr is still a fav of mine, and that vampire head is really fun! Must meditate on possible doll plunge...

    11. Yes my Alec is resin color #3 and Bahir is #2. He is lighter than I was thinking so #1 must be a near white paleness. lol.
I have to get Edmund this preorder. Probably go back to the darker resin #3 again. The aGattis are not too tightly strung but as Max said the head is not on an S hook so putting a new head on a body means restringing. The heads have a faceplate so changing eyes and face ups is a sinch.

    12. And, as well as the head not being on an S hook, the head has a hole rather than a slot. So, you have to remove the s hook completely to remove the head. Stick a pencil in the elastic under the head to hold the elastic as you remove the hook. A bit fiddly but, once you have replaced the ring with a hook, it is doable.

I am trying very hard to resist Edmund. Guh!

I wonder if this is the price increase? If so, that is absolutely fine. I hadn't recently looked at the Flickr post where she asked for opinions. Presumably more people suggested it would limit her customer base. I don't know why Russian dolls can be so expensive. If the casting is expensive there, why do they not send the stuff off to Haru? Well, I am sure there are many reasons, but it would be a way to keep their customer base broad by keeping prices affordable. It seems we are dividing in this hobby into the majority who now spend less money on dolls and are looking for a bargain and the few people who buy "artist dolls" and are prepared to pay for them. If we continue to move towards the fashion doll world, which we seem to be, I can only see prices continuing to climb.

    13. Since I gather that Edmund is the actor likeness sculpt for this preorder I have been trying to figure out who he is. So far the candidates I found are Edmund Cahill and Edmund Entin but neither are a close fit as far as I can see. And I don't recognize who the fourth guy from the left in the mCC lineup is so that is probably who it is.

Edit: Reread the preorder and he is listed as basic so maybe he is not anyone in particular but her own imagination. (But I could swear Vampire Guarvo is one of my cousins.)

    15. Thanks for the notes on the resin shades, Walter! They are both very nice and it helps to see them side by side.

Have to agree with you on Edmund . . He is such a beautifully done head, with a lot of personality to him. But then all of Natalia's sculpts have soul. Will have to get some S hooks in the right size.. I think the ones I have now, will be too large for the MSD size. A faceplate really is a huge help on eye placement.. so much easier to work with that way! :)

Max, your explanation of removing the heads, makes me think of the time I played 'sling shot' with one of mine. The dogs had quite a show with heads, S hooks and pencils flying past their noses! No dolls or dogs hurt, thank goodness.

Has anyone put a face on their new guys yet?

    16. I’ll finally be joining the aGatti Club come late summer! Just emailed my order for my very own Edmund :D

I was hesitating between him and Alfarr, then maybe just adding a head of one of the other, and/or waiting until the next preorder so Alfarr could be a different skin tone., etc, etc. Edmund won out cuz well, why not :wiggle

    17. That's so exciting! Can't wait to see all the lovely Edmunds. Is he a basic sculpt or a portrait?

    18. I’ve order Guarvo Deer in grey color:) I’m so excited:) Have anyone order it too?

    19. I'm still unsure with his and Edmunds skintones x.x

    20. I want Guarvo human and Guarvo-deer. Need them both! It's the first time I really like a doll with horns and long ears. I prefer entirely human-looking dolls. But Guarvo-deer is amazing!
