1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. That's sick that someone would still dolls at a convention!! These dolls are expensive. It just makes me soo angry to hear things like this.

    2. Tell me about it. I wish moving abroad wasn't so expensive. u_u

And I wish we could do that too... I wish there was someway for us to apologize for the actions of others to Volks and Mr. Shigeta, and Japan itself.

    3. A police report was being discussed at the time I left (at the time, they were still talking to FIT security), so I know it's on the table.

The event has insurance, but these dolls really were priceless and one-of-a-kind. Mostly, I'm sad for the Shigetas, FDQ staff/volunteers, and the Volks employees, who have worked so hard to create a wonderful event for us, and then to have this happen . . . ugh.

I'm still sick as hell about it.

      -- A :/

    4. We could keep an eye on Craig's List too, the localized classifieds.

    5. Sorry I didn't know :sorry

    6. Reading about this makes me especially sad, not only for Volks and the other event staff, but for those doll enthusiasts who are attending the NYDolpa event. Up until this morning, they may have been eagerly awaiting another brief glimpse of these beautiful dolls before they were sold. This may be naive of me, but I hope that whoever took these dolls has a change of heart and finds a way to discretely bring them back before it is too late for them to do so.

    7. I was in the military ..and our military police often found stuff hidden in the trash {to be removed later by theif from the location, by vehicle} someone should check that in a timely manner...just saying:(

    8. you know this is ridiculus. Its people like them who make us not trust anyone. You can't go anywhere now and days and buy something straight off the wall. Its under lock and key. I hope whoever stole them gets caught and punished. People can be soooo mean when they do this.

    9. Good idea to let us now (all over the world). I hope you get thoses dolls back quickly

    10. It is so terrible to see stolings everywhere...:( But i have a hope that someday, this must-take-photos dolls will show up on the internet someday...and the thousands of fans who had let known about this, will notice it i believe...

    11. This is pretty much worst-case scenario for us Western Volks fans, eh?

If there's one thing I've learned about crimes, it's that they can't be solved from afar. We have no idea how things actually went down, and I'm sure the people investigating at FIT are having difficulty themselves.

Yes, people who are quick to judge will say that it's the fault of Americans, but it is not even known if the persons who did this are American themselves. That a lot of American fans have posted here with their remorse shows that the community there is a good one.
I seriously doubt that this will stop Volks from holding more events in the US. It is a saddening set-back, but it's not as if someone stole the whole company. I don't think Volks would let one bad person ruin them or their connection to their customers and fans.

Personally, this sounds to me like a crime of convenience. The easiest way to get away with it would be to get as far away as possible. I just hope the person is still down there somewhere in the US. If they came up here to Canada, we have several BJD communities and a Toronto forum; we'll be keeping an eye out.

EDIT: The administrator of the Toronto Doll Forum has posted the alert about the NY Dolpa theft as well. I kind of worry if all this talk on the Internet will ward the thief away from selling them online (which would be a bad thing).

    12. How could somebody do that. That just sick.

On to what I think, I can't see a BJD owner stealing them. I mean we all know how priceless these dolls are. I'm think teenages punks thinking they are cool and bad. I do believe there could be on ebay or YJ. The changes there would be on DOA is very high I mean that's just said I've got you're dolls caught me now. unless you give the dolls new face to the pint where you don't6 know there were the dolls that were steoln.

I very hope the dolls are return to where tere belong back with Volks. My prays are with them to get they BJDs back.

    13. I know we are all upset and disgusted by what happened and I am sure Pat Henry and the Volks staff will handle everything in the way they feel best to help the situation. It seems like they have a lot of avenues to explore as far as how/when this happened, as well as what the motivation for the theft was. It's anyone's guess at this point, but I think the biggest concerns the family had were for the safety of the missing dolls. Dollar value aside, they created these dolls with the intention of them going to loving homes with owners would cherish them for years to come. What a horrible thing for someone to do to a group of such talented, generous and trusting people.

I have notified several friends in the fashion doll community groups in hopes that they too will spread the word and keep an eye open for them within their communities as well.
I am hopeful they will turn up somewhere.

    14. This is pretty much what I think happened, it had to have been done by a staff member/cleaner.

It just makes me so made inside to imagine a bueatiful Ruby, in the arms of some grubby two year-old

    15. This is not good and i hope that the dolls are found soon and those that stole them will be caught. What an awful thing to happen.

I wish everyone involved well but can't help but wonder why the theft of these dolls warrants such a huge headline on DoA when other instances of theft through deception, either by individuals or companies, in the marketplace do not.

Please don't get me wrong i am not questioning or condoning what has happened but there has been a lot of dodgy sellers/buyers here on DoA and none of them seemed to warrant a similar large announcement.

I just wanted to speak my mind and in no way do i condone or support what has happened.

It would be nice if all instances of theft were given equal importance here at DoA.

Big hugs to all concerned, you must all feel awful :aheartbea

    16. This is what everyone else is saying, but my turn. This is simply horrible, and I hope they do show up. :(

Was the room broken into? Or did the dolls simply vanish overnight?

I suppose my second question would be: were these dolls only for display, or were they sold One-Offs?

Again, this really is unfortunate, and I do hope that they turn up. :/

    17. I'm so sad to hear this happened, especially since I had such a wonderful time at last year's NY Dollpa.

I've posted about this happening on the LJ dollfie thread/group, which has a fairly large following. I'm really hoping these dolls are found soon and returned.

    18. Only for display, and were to be give to the Make A Wish Foundation.

    19. this is terrible! i hope they catch whoever did this

the thief will prolly show up and try to sell their wares of stolen goods after a given certain amount of time

i wonder if there is any security cameras in the building?

    20. I hate to have to say it, but there could be a very real possibility that these dolls were stolen to order.

Not every BJD collector in the world is on DoA, and there are some pretty serious hardcore collectors out there that go for the ultra-limiteds. Those dolls were featured in FDQ and the Dolpa is widely known about.

Each of those dolls is pretty near priceless. A serious collector with zero scruples would not be above bribing a member of staff at the location to get access to them. This is how priceless antiques and paintings are stolen; it's always to order for a collector who is willing to pay very highly for the items in question.

I don't think these dolls are going to show up on eBay or Y!J. I think they've gone into someone's private collection.
