1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Double booking?!

That was not good at all. I am surprised that FIT would allow something so "idiotic" to happen.:|

    2. I just woke up to see that alert on DoA. I feel sick that something like this happened in the U.S. and I'm so sorry for Volks. Of course as others have said, as an American it makes me sad that something like this has happened. The manner of brashness of this robbery really does make me feel that it was someone not involved in the doll community and someone who doesn't realize how easy it would be to spot one (or all) of them on E-bay or being resold on another forum. I think even a bad-minded doll owner would know better and not risk it.

I hope for their return and I hope whoever took them is caught. This is completely absolutely unacceptable.

    3. I'm gonna repost this at another doll forum

    4. i dont see how this is a theft to sell; to get any money theyd have to be kept as they are. as they are, they are so completely recogniseable. ayaka, what youve said sounds most likely. that or private collection.

    5. Which leads to the remote, but not impossible chance that the dolls could very well be found while they are packing things away to ship back to Japan/LA/wherever things will be going?

I know, it's a long shot, but I would like to be an optimist and think that maybe the dolls were just moved somewhere out of sight and that they will be found, safe and intact, put somewhere that no one may have thought to look...who knows, perhaps locked down somewhere because of the "unexpected group" using the room, and actually wanting to keep the dolls safe?

      One can only hope.......

    6. As well as 2-3 people before you. Any time a thread gets this long, you're going to get people who don't read it (note the people who were still mentioning a hotel).

Sadly, it sounds more and more like a complete crime of opportunity, and that means that either the person probably has either the barest of knowledge about these dolls or none at all, and that makes it much less likely that the dolls are going to show up on the market again.

However, that also raises the chances that, if they do, they will not be modded or changed-the person won't know to do that.

    7. Not necessarily. Headplates fall off pretty frequently and easily, in my experience, so that isn't always a tip-off to a stolen doll.

I didn't notice the bit about them being signed, though, so that would be a pretty big tip off...but then again, for the sale itself, maybe not? Not many people take photos of the inside of a headcap when selling, after all.

    8. I hope the dolls are returned.

From what Ashbet wrote on the first post:
-"I'm just sick to make this announcement -- six of Volks' display dolls went missing overnight.", noone from FDQ nor Volks staff was present, but perhaps FIT cleaning staff/security.
      - Noone has said that the dolls were selectively chosen. Any Dolpa one off could fetch a fair amount of money, but I believe we all know that and give our dolls more than monetary value. Even more so knowing that Volks will donate the dolls to the make a wish foundation if they are returned.

I say we just wait to read an offical statement instead of going crazy with so many speculations that get us nowhere.

    9. Well, I've been doing some research and found a site I've never even heard of that sells our beloved dolls. http://www.dealworker.com/dollfie.html <- I'm gonna keep my eye on this a lot of Volks dolls seem to be there. >.>

However, it links back to ebay so...I'm a little confused as to if they are partnered with ebay or something.

    10. This is true. The headplates are hot glued on.

The one from my Alain had fallen off. I was able to find it the first time. Now, the head plate is completely missing :|:|

If the person is looking to sell, by selling the items separately, it would be more difficult to provide evident that the items are from the missing dolls.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that these dolls were misplaced and will show up later.

    11. Hello Zigzagael.
When something so horrible as this happens i think it highlights the lows to which some people will go to get their hands on these wonderful dolls and i don't think that DoA is 'partial' to anything, anybody or company but i do question members equal rights when it comes down to 'announcements' that are placed so prominantly on the forum.
I have spent a long time here reading all the 'little people's' posts when they have had difficulties or have openly experienced outright theft from other people. Sometimes they just don't get any attention.
All i am doing is asking why.

There are so many fabulous kind members here that i would be more than happy to deal with at any time and i am sure that you would agree that DoA is the best place to discuss, deal with issues, explore and learn about BJD's but at the same time, perhaps especially at this time, we should give give equal and get equal exposure when things go wrong.
      :)

    12. You know... i don,t if people have checked the dumpsters around the FIT building. It's speculation it happened to a friend of mine before, he had put acollectible in a box was they were tearing down a room after an art showing... a Janitor who thought it was trash, took the box and tossed it in the dumpster. (there was a lot of boxes lying around)

Maybe that happened here otoo or someone put them away for safekeeping and they were forgotten? Well let's see what the police investigation has to say about it... it,s their job we can only speculate.

    13. One thing I was wondering - since everyone at the dolpa knew about the morning sales, could some people have arrived VERY early to line up? And gotten into the building and noticed that the room was 'unexpectedly being used by another group', probably non-doll people, and took advantage of the sitiuation???
      Alex

    14. I'll be sure to spread the word to my friends. I'm appalled at this... I really hope they're found and returned!

    15. I've posted about this on my personal doll site. I hope it helps

    16. You know, this is very true. At LA Dolpa, people were standing in line already outside by about 6AM. But since FIT is not exactly a hotel situation, maybe no one were allow to stand in line just right outside of that conference room.

    17. This is very unfortunate. I think if they were already in boxes dumpsters around the area should be checked as mentioned above. Also Pawn shops, and dolly hospitals (places where dolls and teddys get fixed), secondary markest internet and "Sellers Magazine" (private sales adverts papers). Just incase.. its sad but you really have to watch things now a days.

    18. Wow. x_x I can't believe someone would do that... well, I can. But it really sucks that it actually happened. There's no way I can really help but I can hope that the dolls are found in their original condition.

    19. There is a difference between a large company event and a private sale gone awry. There is also a difference in handling a private doll sales gone wrong or someone's dolls got stolen from a train station.

The community here at DoA had been very helpful in tracking down con artists and posting their names and other information and banning them from this board to prevent them from further victimizing people.

I do not think that DoA is being partial to Volks simply because there is a headline regarding stolen or missing dolls. The theft happened to a company and an event. The dolls are going to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and not sold for profit so it is a situation that needs to be handled a bit differently.

      -----------------------------------

Really, I hope that the dolls are just misplaced and not stolen. If someone accidentally switched the boxes with other boxes from the unexpected room users, I hope they come forward and say "Hey, we accidentally got your boxes. Are these your dolls?"

I just really hope that there are still some really honest people left out there.

    20. Just looks like a search site to me. For any online marketplace.
