1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. I can't believe anybody would do something like this. It's so horrible and disrespectful ;_; I sure hope the dolls are recovered

    2. And also to nathankatt
Yes, we were allowed right outside of the room. I was there at uhhh about 8:20, the people in front of me I believe said they got there at 8AM. Some of the people after us were waiting in the lobby because they didn't know we were in the hallway . . . so yes, it's POSSIBLE someone was there before us, but I really don't think so. People were in line so early in LA because we were staying in the hotel. It also seems like it would be hard to make off with six boxes back to your hotel without, by chance, running into another doll owner. Too many fortunate coincidences for my taste for it to work out, though it's not entirely impossible.

I'm not trying to add to wild speculation here, I was only trying to add some information.

And yes, there were security cameras in the FIT building, so at least there will be SOME info for any investigation - I saw some for certain in the lobby, I don't recall if there were any in the hallway (I think so), but I don't think there were any in the room itself and there were multiple entrances/exits. Still, better than nothing.

There *was* a possibility of finding the dolls still among the boxes when I left - but that was early, so if no one heard that by the end of the event, then unfortunately I guess that chance went down. Pray to St. Anthony everyone, though, I guess.

    3. This is pretty sad but it doesnโ€™t surprise me in the least. A lot of people are saying it could be a private collector and while I agree its possible, I think more likely it would be someone outside the community. It could be very well that they donโ€™t know how much they are worth but rather seeing them in display know they are worth something.

Some Tonner and Barbie dolls also get displays in store and similar and people in general I think realize things like this, those types of dolls though semi-high priced are generally not so exclusive that if they were stolen they couldnโ€˜t be sold off at a later date easily by comparison. Also I think anyone very familiar with the community would realize that this would be a rather large deal to people who collect BJDs so they wouldnโ€™t be able to just sell them off easily.

Finally I will say that in years of working retail Iโ€™ve come to realize that people will steal pretty much anything they can, from TVs to burnable media to things like replaceable razor heads. Iโ€™ve even seen people put things like produce or meat into their purses and try to walk out the door. I really hope that everything turns out well for Volks. =/

    4. This is very different from a personal issue between a seller, buyer, and scammer--that's a situation of he said, she said, I said. From a Law Enforcement perspective, things can get murky. In the collectible world, things go wrong often, on ebay, rinkya, here, it doesn't matter; that's a risk that can happen when buying online. If they put up a huge announcement like that, every single time something bad happened....the top of the page would be cluttered with stuff. That's why there is a bad feedback/problem transaction forum.

This happened at an official event; it's the difference between being pick-pocketed on the street, and a store being robbed.

    5. oh -- security cameras. i hope they catch them red handed. thats good to hear.

    6. That's simply heart breaking to hear such news.

What are the incentives now for Dolpa to ever come back to NYC? I wish people would think things through better -theft and security both. Why weren't these dolls kept under better watch? Though, I guess the other side of the argument is no one would've probably ever even conceived of something this horrible happening.

Anyway, I'll try to get all my friends in the tri-state aware of this and see if I can't get my network to find something out. I swear, if I could get away with it, I'd break the hands of whomever stole them.

    7. This is really disturbing.

I hope we can catch them. I think it would be a really great thing if our cooperation helped catch the thief...Maybe I'm just dreaming.

    8. Theft is theft is taking something that does'nt belong to you either by means of internet fraud or otherwise. No 'he said, she said' scenario at all, some people have been stolen from just as plainly as this awful theft has happened, it's just not been highlighted as boldly.
We all want the dolls found and returned - for everyone yes?

    9. Terrible news. :(
I can only hope the dolls turn up safe & sound.

    10. I am hoping they are simply misplaced now with the news of the other group within the same room.

    11. I'm sorry but even if it was true, it's a bit harsh to insult the "grubby" two year old if their parents/whatever stole a doll for them.

    12. This whole incident was horrible and left me sick to the stomach when Mr. Shigeta and Mikey told us what happened. It must have been especially hard for them especially since they spent so much time and effort to organize the event for us. They managed to finish the Dolpa with a brave and cheerful face and hopefully the ugliness that happened today won't discourage them from coming again next year.

    13. I agree. Two year olds should not be discussed nor dismissed without foundation for the accusations - they are little innocent children.

    14. i do wonder, if the dolls are not found, perhaps we could all do something nice for m shigeta (sorry if i spelt that wrong) it only seems fitting, as he puts so much in...and to lose so much to theivery. it puts such a downer on the NY dollpa. i know it is too soon to initialise such a thing, but its just a thought.

    15. While there are no security cameras in the room they were in . wouldnt there be security cameras in the halls I mean they had to get them out somehow? and wouldnt they have to have used a way out from the room. I know most hotels have cameras in every hallway or stairwell I think they should check the tape for any suspicious activities after they locked up till they opened again

    16. I'm sorry to bring this up, but you also said:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3261841&postcount=68

So I'm confused- you say that all theft is wrong, but in a hypothetical situation you would still take a doll that wasn't yours?

I know this is completely off topic, but seeing how agressive you are being today over DoA's policy on helping a company get their property back, I find this a little... irregular. :sweat

    17. it wasn't in a hotel....

and i'm pretty sure the security team considered looking at the security tapes by now.

    18. I JUST got home so I didn't read thru, these might have been posted already, but these are the stolen dolls. ALSO --- Mr. Shigeta added at the end that if they are RETURNED - no QUESTIONS ASKED - they will donate ALL of them towards the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Not that I think the people who did this give a rat's ass about anybody but themselves, but... just wanted to share that information.

I'm SO SAD. I had to head to the ladies' room when Pat Henry got emotional. Down I went. It's appalling.:(

Do you know that ALSO at the closing, Mr. Shigeta said something to the effect of... you know, there's an old Japanese proverb that when something really bad happens, something good will come of it. It was such an amazing attitude to have in this situation, and made us all cry even harder. I hope they are found.

    19. We need to put together a fund for a donation to Make-A-Wish in Volks' name. Whether the dolls are found or not, that's amazingly good hearted of Mr. Shigeta, and we should follow his example.

    20. I think this is a very good idea.
