1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. oh my gosh, this is just too shocking to read, and incredibly sad to say the least. I pray that the dolls turn up fine, this is something I would never think of happening during a dolpa. I really hope Volks will host another dolpa next year in NY, I'm going to have to save my money for a whole year, but I really want to go. I'll keep my eye on all the auction sites to see anything too, I hope that spineless creep who did it gets caught, that makes me sooo mad someone would do something like this. I mean six dolls for gods sake! ><

    2. I agree with the consensus that the thief is NOT a BJD enthusiast. Either it is someone working in the building or a newbie visitor that took notice of the value. Obviously they don't realize the sheer mass of collectors, most of whom are on DoA and can so easily spot these dolls. Here's hoping they turn up - I bet they will. If what I heard about the make-a-wish thing is true, than that's wonderful - as a childhood cancer survivor, I appreciate the thought.

    3. Is it actually even possible that the dolls were disposed of?
I must say, the idea of Super Dollfies in a landfill is sickening, but there is a chance to recover them even still.
New garbage disposal is kept in a different area for a few days before it's mixed in with the rest of the landfill.

I dunno. Theft seems the most likely; a box or even several boxes of Super Dollfies is pretty heavy.

I'm still hoping for news about any possible security camera footage. =/

    4. I feel so sorry for Mr Shigeta. I do hope the person whom took the dolls away without permission will hand on back to where they shud belong soon. But I do agree 1 point here that, I don't think is 1 man job. They must have partner with them to do this as 7 dolls with SD and MSD size, is pretty hard to carry all by he/her own. This guys must done a lot of research about the event flow so they can do their job easily. I'm sure there must be evidence left from this guys!

I will try to keep track on Ebay and DOA marketplace too... since I browse a lot!

    5. I'm sorry, but are you joking??

There *is* a section devoted to warning our members about bad sellers/buyers -- it's called the "Feedback - Problem Transactions" area. Obviously, we can't make a separate announcement about every bad transaction at the top of the forum.

However, given that this was blatant theft of thousands of dollars worth of dolls, in a situation where time may be of the essence to keep them from going up on eBay with a BIN before anyone realized they were stolen, we decided that an announcement was merited.

We don't want bad deals to happen on DoA, which is why we provide an opportunity for every seller and buyer to give feedback for transactions. If someone is found to be a consistent or egregious bad dealer, they're banned from the Marketplace or from the forum altogether.

In this case, the three admins present at Dolpa felt that it was appropriate to make the announcement so that all of our members could be on the lookout for these missing dolls as soon as possible.

I am still very, very much hoping that it's all some awful misunderstanding and that the dolls were somehow moved/misplaced, but people have done everything from talking to building security/caterers to digging through nearby Dumpsters, and the dolls have not been found. It's too many missing dolls for them to have easily walked out of the building without there having been some kind of evidence, so we're all very much hoping that someone knows something and will come forward, or that security footage will provide us with some information.

The Shigetas have been incredibly giving, welcoming, and friendly to doll fans around the world, and it sucks like hell to have their generosity repaid like this.

      -- A :(

    6. I hope that they are returned without incident.

    7. This is really shocking news.

I really hope the dolls are alright. It just makes me feel so depressed that they were stolen T_T. I really wish they would be return home safely.

    8. I wonder if anyone has tried to check the Fashion Institute's forums? I know at my college when things have been stolen, that same item ends up on the school's message boards within a couple hours. My friend found her laptop that had been stolen that way.

    9. First of all, I want to join in with everyone and just say how shocked, appalled, and very, very sad I am that this happened. I hope it wasn't a member of the community, that the dolls are returned safely, and that Dolpa will continue to occur.

I know a lot of people have been throwing around their theories, so here's my two cents: I wonder if the thief is reading this thread and others like it, learning where people are watching for the dolls to appear, ect. Of course, it could be a random person who does not know anything about BJDs... But then, what would a person like that be doing at Dolpa, unless the thief is a staff member of the convention hall? You'd think a person into BJDs would realize that they would have trouble selling a stolen, one-of-a-kind doll. I wonder if it's possible that the dolls were somehow...misplaced or something? I guess not, huh... Maybe they are in a display case at someone's house somewhere.

I hope these beauties make it back where they belong. I'm sure everyone at Volks is heartsick.

    10. I'm thinking that if it was someone that knew how important those dolls where then they would either lay low for a while or sell to an individual instead of on the net... if they were smart. Also, it could be that they would sell to certain types of collectors... like stolen artwork.... both of which are disgusting.

Also, are these displays guarded in anyway or are they left alone to the public? And when the room is left at the end of the night are they put away or are they left there and the room locked? Knowing some of these things might help out with who might be able to get to the dolls... narrowing things down a tad.... maybe.

    11. Isn't the "Swan" technically not a Ruby but sort of a prototype sculpt?

    12. Wow...I'm just really ashamed that this had to happen here in the USA. I wonder if the individual(s?) that stole these dolls know how bad this could be for the rest of us. I mean, think about it, 7 dolls no less one-offs/LEs. That's such a loss on VOLKS's part not only monetary wise but much more. If I were Mr. Shigeta, I would be wary of having more Volks events in the US because of this incident. Of course, the me that's me is like, "NOOOOOOOssss...I haven't been to a Volks event yet and I don't want this to affect my chances of going to one. Nooooooooosssss!"

So...three possibilities of who stole these dolls:

      1) Crazy collector that doesn't care what a big no-no he/she/they has/have done.

      2) Bad person looking to make a couple of bucks off of selling these dolls.

      3) Some inside job that probably has no clue what these dolls are and may not treat these dolls they way they should. :(

Ack! I'm done ranting. Fiance is laughing at me. But oh...this is really a terrible thing to happen.:((

    13. Even my family, who has no connection to dolls other then me and my sister... are angry! Not only are they one off special dolls... but they where going to be given to make a wish! That's the Clincher.

    14. I was at the event and I heard that there was another event taking place before the Sunday one started. That was not supposed to happen. Those two days were meant for Dolpa only but apparently FIT booked another one on Sunday morning. It is possible that someone from the previous event might have taken it, or anyone who has access if all existing entrances were locked. It's just not fair, to Mr. Shigeta and the family, they work so hard to make this event wonderful and these thieves just... it seems like nice people get hit hard a lot. I don't know. I doubt that the people in the dolpa event would've actually stolen them, there's so much respect between us, and we trust each other to the point of leaving our dolls on the table and going on the other side of the room, and not one person has reported anything stolen in the event (other than the overnight ones). It's just too sad :(

    15. I don't know what to say.Everyone has given their guesses and thoughts so I won't be saying repeated things.I just hope the dolls can be found safe and sound.

    16. omgomgomgomg, i posted the word about this in my lj and one my friends said:

"Omfg!! We saw these dolls on Yjapan! Dear jesus.. These people suck, aparently the auction has been removed but they have the name of the user who tried to sell one of them."

    17. Once again, the dolls were not going to Make a Wish, they were the display dolls for the Dolpa.

Mr. Shigeta stated afterwards that when the dolls are found, they have decided to give them to Make a Wish.

    18. I would suggest before posting this here that you have actual links to the information, otherwise you will be starting more rumors and craziness that has no actual proof.

    19. I saw this and it made me think...did they steal the dolls from the stands? removing the dolls from their stands and leaving the stand behind? Someone hasty would of most likely stolen stands and all in their rush to get their loot and get out. If they took the time to remove the dolls from their stands first....then the thieves had some time to do this, no huge rush...hmmm I wish we had more details.

      -edit-

nevermind, i got all wound up and posted this before going through all billion pages. ;>.>

    20. I am really upset about this. I think the thieves are really not collectors are anything of the sort. I think these people knew how much Super Dollfies can be worth and took advantage of that. I feel deeply sorry for Mr. Shigeta and hope the best wishes for him. My best bet is the staff itself.....
