1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Oh i hope the doll's are found soon! That's so teribel!

    2. Is there a thread in the bad buyer/seller area where there is a list of 'stolen' dolls. Not from 'bad buyers', but those situations where the doll was stolen at a convention, from a store, an event etc. If there isn't I think there should be one, and it should be sticked. With a list of discriptions of the stolen dolls.

Figure the seller of stolen dolls may wait months or years before they resell so a list that could be easily referenced in the future would be nice.

    3. i was shock by this news too ><;;; i hope the dolls will return safely.... for the sake of the make a wish too...

    4. In my opinion, this is a bit like stealing a flatscreen TV: how do you manage to make off with seven dolls?

I've never been to a Dolpa so I don't know, but it seems like bad security. If the dolls were left on display overnight, that's clearly a bad choice on Volks' part. They should have kept the dolls locked up. It will take more time to set up the display again the morning, but the dolls will also be safe.

I sincerely hope that these dolls get found, and that this situation makes everyone involved examine how to keep their dolls safer in the future.

    5. I want to become VERY familiar with the images of these missing dolls so I can keep an eye out for them. Clicking on individual links to the photos is somehow not getting to the right place in my menpausal brain :blush
Would it be possible for someone to make a photo thread (possibly a sticky with no comments so it stays focused on the images), showing the images of the 6 dolls and the name of the artist if available?
      Many thanks.

    6. I can't find an FIT forum, but they have a myspace page:
      http://groups.myspace.com/FashionInstituteofTechnology

I don't use myspace, but maybe someone could put up a notice about it?

    7. I was so sorry to get home from the morning I spent at the Dolpa (I didn't stay for classes) and to see this announced on DoA. Volks is incredibly kind to their customers and fans, and the Dolpa is a huge treat. To have this happen to them is terrible. The stolen dolls were beautiful . I hope they will be recovered.

    8. (I thought the "Swans" were not Ruby/Garnet but a prototype sculpt with no plans for release...)

It was so weird. I'd see an image and think "Oh, that's the doll I was admiring yesterday... Not him, too!" They really took it hard, the Volks and FDQ people. They announced it as if someone had died. They were at the point of tears, but they managed to move on after sharing this disappointment with us. They didn't act like they were ashamed of us or suspecting us, and all party long they would say "next year," "see you next year."

I don't think they've lost faith in us. That's good to know.

I still suspect some sort of confusion happened concerning different events happening in the building. At least I hope it's an innocent mistake, someone assuming the dolls needed to be put somewhere and then halfway through deciding it was too much work and then forgetting about it.

    9. What a scandal! I'm appalled like everyone else, but I'm sure they will find these dolls - hopefully the police have been informed, they can investigate the evidence, and I'm sure there must have been some sort of security tapes, right? Plus, as we all know, the fandom is huge and outraged, so there is literally thousands of people looking for the culprit!

I really hope this doesn't affect future Dolpas in America. It's such a horrible thing to happen, I'm not sure I can believe it is someone who knew very much about BJDs, I like to think the members of this fandom have a lot more respect.

    10. I'll see what I can do to send a message out...I'm on myspace.

Just a note to people searching for the FIT forum, make sure you are looking at the Fashion Institute of Technology and not Florida Institute of Technology. You may think I'm joking, but I'm not. I go to Florida Tech and as we also go by FIT, at least for our website and certain other things, we have had people thinking that we were the Fashion Institute.

    11. Sher: Thank you for making that post with links to the pictures. I have passed along that information to the mod of a Japanese Volks community on mixi and she's made a special post about this. What's happened is awful, and I truly hope these dolls turn up--either returned anonymously or found when whoever took them tries to sell them.

In a way, it's almost lucky they were one-offs and not, for example, display models of the LEs because if the faceups are intact, they will be easy to spot.

    12. I hope whoever did this is found and given what's due to them, be it an old-fashioned boot party or public shame. Stealing from Volks is like hitting a kitten. These are a genuinely kind and decent lot of people. Felt sick all day since the announcement was made. Disgusting.

    13. If it were one doll, I think the persons involved might've been able to get away with it, but with seven released into the doll market, eventually one is going to be recognized and traced back to the original seller.
Unless the seller trashes them out of fear of being caught. The awareness of this theft seems to be spreading like a wave onto other forums and sites.

    14. That's what I was worried about -was whomever stole them might just trash them at this point. For someone to go after the one-offs, I really think it was someone familiar with dollfies and involved at least to some degree in the dollfie community. Whomever did it probably knows at this point they can't get away with it and if they can't return the dolls without making the return known, I fear they might just toss them in a dumpster or something. :(

    15. it was odd that Garnet was only left...but the rest were stolen

    16. Ah, gotcha. I misread. My bad. But i think that it's great that he would donate them like that.

    17. I was thinking the same thing: why did Volks (or the convention center) leave the dolls sitting out over night? It seems like a risk that they took. They really needed to have better security. Even if Volks did make a mistake in leaving the dolls out over night I believe that it would be the responsibility of the convention center to keep the area locked and keep other people from entering. If there was a scheduling misunderstanding then again I think the convention center would be at fault. :huh?:

I wish that we lived in a safer world where things like this didn't happen, but they do happen and they happen all the time. We need to be more vigilant and cautious unfortunately as a result. I'm glad that Volks hasn't lost faith in the U.S. fans because there are criminals all over the world. This could have happened anywhere. There are now seven people dead in Tokyo because of another person who decided to do something terrible to hurt others. :(

    18. I sent a message out to the moderator of the FIT myspace group, so hopefully they'll be able to help find the dolls.

    19. I was also surprised they left them out over night but it may be possible that they trust the fans. Also in Japan there's much less crime rate, so they may be used to trusting people or giving the benefit of the doubt. In US the crime rate is so much higher than Japan, especially in New York. But I guess they didn't realize that there might be a lot of risk. But I do think it's the fault of the convention center to not have better security especially in this kind of event.
