1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Were they stolen DURING the event or overnight? If the latter, then the site security and staff of the place needs to be looked into too.

I was on staff at an SF con at a hotel that assured us the dealers room was safely locked up at night. But neglected to remember an access door to the kitchens that couldn't be locked. We had to keep someone there overnight.

If they were stolen by people OUTSIDE the hobby itself, things are going to be much more difficult to track.

    2. I agree.

We'd rather hope that the person who stole them were a newbie to the whole BJD game as they would be more liable to post the dolls in places like Ebay and such, but...

      Maaan.

    3. Wah, I feel as bad as if there was a kidnapping or something! I hope that whoever stole them realizes what a horrible thing they did. I can't imagine how much time went into designing, perfecting, and making these.
If the thief doesn't return them, I think there's a big chance that at least some of them will be found while they're trying to be sold. As aikoe said, the BJD community really watches out for things like this. It's going to be really hard for them to sell those now, especially with DoA being alerted like this.
I hope everyone keeps an eye out!

    4. I don't know, it could be either...a collector is more likely to just swipe one maybe, but isn't the area closed off to outsiders that aren't Dolpa attendees? At any rate it must be a person who knows how valuable these dolls are, whether that he is familiar with BJDs or that he has learned the worth of these dolls.

    5. I wonder why that one display was targeted rather than any others? Was it the one in front? Was it easier to access than the others?

This whole issue makes me ill, and I seriously hope we find these dolls. Art thieves don't just steal property, after all, they're spitting on the hard work and creativity of the artist.

    6. How can anyone do this? Horrible. I do hope the dolls will be returned.

    7. Have the police been informed? Even if they might not take it seriously at first, they will when they learn the worth of the dolls.

    8. Such a sick and selfish thing... hard to think anyone within the BJD community would do this.
Let's hope these dolls are returned soon and safely. I know I'll be keeping my eyes out!
      Kirsten

    9. Wow this whole thing just makes me feel awful. I hope everything goes well and they are returned safely.

    10. Awwww, what terrible sad news :( I hope that the dolls are safely returned to the proper owner(s).

    11. This is really atrocious. Don't people realize how long it took Volks to come to the US, now people are blatantly STEALING from them? WTH?

Newbie to the hobby or not, theft is theft. No one should steal, ever.

    12. All those dolls?? O:
      That's awful!! T_____T

As other people have said, it could have been someone who could enter the room, and what if the person didn't even know their value but just took them as they were beautiful and because they could grab them easily?

It's just one of my guesses, because if they DID know their value, they would also know that it wouldn't be so easy to get away with it and sell them, when the community is always alert in such cases.

I really hope they show up!

    13. :( Thats just scandalous.... someone must have seen someone acting shady around there. What disgusting person/people I swear... I'm sure they wont be enjoying them for long.

    14. Euugh. That's awful. But what I'm wondering is...how did whoever it was manage to get seven large dolls out of there without being stopped/caught? o-o;

    15. I think it would have to be someone who had easy access to the room, it would be hard to steal that many dolls otherwise.
Still can't believe anyone would do that.

    16. What upsets me most about this is how poor the US will look in the eyes of the Japanese who hear about it. The Japanese already consider the US to be a place of danger and crime, and this will just reinforce that mentality. It reflects badly on all of us.

    17. Make me so sick... poor dolls. Keeps eye out on ebay.

I hope this does not make volks ever want to come ot another Dolpha in the US again T.T.

    18. A truly stupid criminal, sure they were smart enough to steal them from the stands but they obviously did not think their actions through. The only way I see the thieves profiting from this is if there were a number of people in on the plan and the people (or person) who orcastrated the theft were willing to pay the thieves. Even so these dolls might be lost to us forever I hope that won’t be the case.

    19. Qoute for emphasis.

Seriously though, if they were stolen by someone outside of the hobby they may or may not be aware of their value and exactly what kind of dolls they are. Which will make looking for them on major websites like Ebay and y!japan harder.

Speaking of which has any kept an eye out on ebay/y!japan/MArketplace?

    20. Ugh, I hadn't even thought of that, but you're absolutely right. That makes this all the more disgusting and horrifying.

I really feel so bad for the artists.... Especially with how I am about my creations. I'm just happy I suck so bad no one wants to steal anything of mine. u_u.
