1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. I have to add my horror and outrage to that already expressed by others, and also sad confirmation that this does indeed happen all the time.

I was working over Christmas a few years ago in a mall kiosk selling calendars. A few booths away was a porcelain doll seller and one morning some guy just stole about five or six dolls from the booth and RAN OFF with them. He ran right past me, too, but he was gone before I could get out of my kiosk and try to stop him. I gave his description to the cops but never found out if they got him. I'm not sure why he took those dolls; he didn't look much like a collector to me, and the dolls were pretty but by no means expensive.

Just goes to prove some people will take things just because they can.

    2. You know, sometimes you're bound by the security the event itself provides, when you're setting up for a show. Volks could hardly be expected to provide a bodyguard for each doll. :P
When you book a room, that you've been told will STAY LOCKED until you're pretty much there manning it, there is a reasonable expectation and security. The Shigeta family and Volks in general have to be absolutely stunned, its heartening to hear how they have handled it so far.

Sadly -- its all speculation, isn't it? Rather than tossing out random theories, I think its wonderful that we can ALL be vigilant and keep an eye out for these works of art!

    3. That is horrid! Who would do such a thing?! Then again plenty of people would do such a terrible offense. Good question is on how they snuck out with six dolls?!

    4. I was quite shocked to learn of this.
It's such a horrendous thing to do...
      (...not to mention bold!)
My feelings echo those of everyone else.
I hope they are returned unscathed.

My heart is with Volks and the Shigeta family.

    5. This is absolutely horrible - I'm seconding and thirding all of the 20 pages of people that have said I hope the person who did this gets caught and the dolls returned to Mr. Shigeta and eventually, the Make-A-Wish foundation. I think it's wonderful that Mr. Shigeta takes things in stride and can be so understanding.

I hope everyone will keep an eye out for the seven missing dolls - I know I will.

    6. I just read the whole thing, this is horrible. I can't believe someone would do this. It sickens me too. I hope they get the dolls back. :(

    7. HappyBentoKid>> I'm not too familiar with volks and msd XD

      surreality>> I.. see. >.<

Just wondering if a police report was made? I mean, there could be fingerprint marks of unknown people or something? x.X

    8. :...( That is just terrible. And sickening!

I've already been scouring eBay..I found that eBay link that was posted earlier, but I highly doubt it will be that one. Look at their feedback for a start.
Why would any 100% 100+feedback seller sell on one of these?
They would only sell it by not knowing where it had came from I think...:?

I will continue to scour eBay [and try use Y!J also][and Im sure hundreds of others will be too] when I am back from college later today.

I hope these dolls are found safely[preferably just misplaced in the building].

    9. What a sad thing to come onto the forums and see. I'm really disappointed that someone would stoop to doing this. It makes me sick to know that there are people out there like this. I hope that the person responsible will come forward, though it doesn't seem likely.

I just hope that they will slip up and get themselves caught before any of the dolls can be sold off or altered. It doesn't seem likely that it was someone outside the hobby, and if it was I'd be even more afraid of what might happen to them in a way. I really hope that they can be recovered before something bad happens to them or they are sold!

    10. Holy crap.

I wonder if Volks would accept security volunteers for future events. I'd spend all night patrolling their secure areas for free if it meant this kind of thing wouldn't happen in the future. I mean, it's not even a big area to protect. They must have had nothing but the locks on the doors between those dolls and public access areas.

    11. Its so sad to hear that this has happened =(

It makes me fearful as an owner too because I've left my dolls before on a display table at a con, to think that there are people who would steal such a thing is just so terifying. I don't think I'd have the courage to leave my doll on display at a public event like that again.

I really hope these dolls are found and returned. They are simply stunning and do not deserve to be lost or stolen. I can't imagine how the Volks usa staff must be feeling. Its simply awful.

    12. kyrie, thats a great idea. i just hate to think how this has made mr. shigeta feel and itd be wonderful to show that we do appreciate his genorsity and kindess - id certainly like to donate.

    13. If this display was anything like the ones I've seen at Dolpa in the past - I'm assuming these were their One-Off doll models - then the little description sheets in front of the dolls all had prices listed on them, because people attending the Dolpa would be deciding which models they wanted to enter the lottery for, and which ones they could afford to purchase if they won them. So the person who stole them would have had the values right there when they stole the dolls, whether they know much about them or not.

    14. This is so terrible!!:(
I hope it will not scared Volks away for another Dolpa event.
I heard that once in the meetup event, some one is trying to carry away MSD from another doll owner, but I could not imaging that there is some one(or people?) stolen dolls from the Dolpa!
I personal think might be some one open the door for the theft....(just guess....)

    15. This is definitly one of Ravendoll's masterpieces. If it is the same Morelle got to see her at a local meetup.

    16. Posted the link to this thread on the German doll-board I'm on. Will keep my eyes open.

    17. My friend at the Dolpa mentioned that independent staffers (i.e. not associated directly with either the venue or Volks; I don't want top point fingers in the chance that we're wrong) were showing an unusual interest in the dolls, and particularly in their price. My theory is that they were nabbed purely for monetary gain and were probably going to be put up on eBay. I think with all this bad "press" so to speak, the parties responsible are going to be stuck with them.

    18. Has this been made public in like, US news and papers? I think that would be a really good thing, it would raise awareness of the public to the issue and also the people responsable would know that the issue was really serious and they are not going to get away with it so easily.

    19. The only thing that would worry me about mainstream media coverage would be that it would serve to point out the value of these dolls to a lot of people who don't know about them at all, which would potentially make all of us targets of theft more often.

    20. As others have said, these were not the one-offs that were in the lottery for sale. Those had already been sold and sent off with their new owners and were located on a table near the small side rooms (such as the room used for the doll doctor). These dolls were another group entirely. One pair of Ruby and Garnet were the cover models for an upcoming FDQ; the other pair of Ruby and Garnet were modelling sample outfits made from the 2 patterns in the FDQ bracelet issue folks could buy at the event. Then there was an Irvin. Then, on the side closest to the other door (not a door in use for attendees but it was along the same hallway), were the various FCS-head sample dolls. As they were not for sale, there were no prices listed. The only doll that might have had a price anywhere near, if someone took enough time to read through the entire FDQ page next to him, was Irvin.
