1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Oh ok.

I live in the UK so I don't really know what kind of things the US will do in regards to crime ^^;\

    2. After reading about this, it makes everyone wonder why they didn't provide their own over night security for that room. Anyone that knew about the lack of security and the lay out of FIT could be a possible suspect. I'm very surprised that they didn't have any type of preventative measures. If the dolls were in a display, why not bring a locking break proof case to put them in? I'm sure that there are such things that are portable enough. Volks was just asking for someone to swipe their dolls if they didn't have anything preventing this. It's a horrible thing that happened, but if they aren't stupid, we won't ever hear about these dolls again. If we do, it'll be a few years from now and people may have forgotten about this. Art thieves also tend to sell things in shady circles to people looking for things that they can't buy from anyone else. If it was a private collector, then we really won't hear anything about them. They will end up on display in someones home, maybe seen by people not familiar with the dolls so they won't know about the theft. There are a lot of scenarios, but I hope that they screw up some place so they go to jail and the dolls go back to Volks.

    3. I'm just sick about this. :( I got home late last night and went straight to bed. Now I get up and read this. I'm just heartbroken. :(

    4. How on earth could SIX dolls of those sizes disappear in the middle of a show, with all those people around, or after hours when it's supposed to be secured? What about the security tapes/cameras? Don't they show anything? I suppose this is tantamount to someone walking off at a car show with a lexus or something: it's so unthinkable that no one pays any attention but figures anybody hauling that many dolls has got to be authorized/has the right to do so? Still & all, hotel security should be answering some pointed questions from Volks as well as management, IMO.

      This sucks.

    5. This is just....horrible. How could someone do something like this? I hope they get found and brought back safe and sound.

    6. It wasn't a hotel, rather it was held at a school, the Fashion Institute of Technology.

I'm sure they are answering some pointed questions.

    7. better search on ebay, less on our marketplace, the thief is no idiot.
And I guess the thief wouldn't sell the dolls asap. I guess he/she'd wait until people came down and gave up. And then sell them.
      Well that's what I'd do.... =/

    8. Having worked in the government and dealt with a Convention Center, and further having seen this happen at a college as well, its most likely an inside job by one of the workers.

In college, they had these wonderful big screen televisions. 52" I believe. And they disappeared one night. No forced entry, and the security footage 'bleeped' out for a few hours.

This might be what happened there...

    9. I still don't understand why they would set things up and just leave them over night. I would never ever leave any dolls ANYWHERE without being watched by myself or someone I trust.
I hope they find them ._.

    10. I agree with both of these comments; I think it was great to post a banner of the theft because now everyone who accesses this site will be aware of it; however I think that it might not be a bad idea to do the same thing if future thefts, etc were reported. Perhaps the banner could be linked to the sticky for stolen dolls; that way everyone can be kept up to date on the thefts and hopefully more can be resolved in a positive manner.

As for me, when I first read about the dolls, I had my boy sitting next to me and I immediately set him in my lap and hugged him tightly. I think it's disgraceful for anyone to take something someone spent so much time and dedication on. I do hope a resolution is reached and those responsible are fined or punished...

    11. From what I understand the dolls were taken off the display and were boxed and ready for shipment. From another attendee's livejournal. I didn't get to go on Sunday so I didn't see if there was another display set up in the same spot. The volks staff didn't have an exact time frame when the dolls went missing after the event on Saturday

    12. To be fair... they have a LOT of stuff they brought so they probably couldn't lug it all back to a known secure location like their hotel, so they picked a location they thought was secure.

Also from what I've seen of Japan, the people there are so honest, I'm not sure something like this would happen there. We once dropped a nice digital camera in a cab in Japan, and the cab driver actually mailed it back to us. @_@ If it has been the U.S., we could have just said good-bye to the camera. I bet Volks just didn't think it'd be that huge of a possiblity that someone would steal 7 dolls. =(

    13. It isn't just Japan. Lots of people leave their dolls on the tables & goes to talk or look at other dolls. I saw sei & rei tenshi at deserted tables, as well as so many gorgeous dolls. I left my dolls at the table as well. I never really thought anyone would take them, and I'm sure Volks didn't as well. I realize that there is a difference between leaving your dolls at a table with hundreds of people around and leaving display dolls in an unattended room, but it was locked & there was security posted. Hopefully steps to guard against this will be implemented in the future & the missing dolls will show up soon.

    14. That's what I think too, Japan is quite honest and it didn't cross their mind that US wouldn't be like that. Totally agree.

    15. I just got back from NY and I'm catching up.... this was so important you had to say it twice?

This is a theft of serious magnitude. It's awful from the emotional standpoint, but this could also have an effect on next year's Dolpa if there is one. Also, I doubt anyone would feel good about buying one of these stolen dolls if it shows up on Ebay (and man, if someone bought it by accident, they'd probably get branded as a thief even though they had no idea!)... so it is a warning to the community as a whole, as well as the only thing DoA can do as a forum to help get these dolls back.

If a DoA member has 10k worth of dolls stolen from them at a major event, I'll be happy to post up a banner. :daisy

Meantime, this isn't a thread for talking about how we treat theft here - so let's keep that politicking and drama right the heck out of here.

Also, just a general message - please be careful about speculation. We don't want to ruin the reputations of innocent sellers. If you have real suspicion (as opposed to a general "look, there's a Garnet on eBay"), please feel free to mention it. But please don't jump the gun or make baseless accusations. :)

    16. Yah, very true, but I've never been to a Dolpa so I wouldn't have known what their displays look like. Which is why I said may or may not. It's simple speculation on the situation itself, anything is possible... but now that you and (I can't remember the other person's name) pointed out that - That's very true too.

It's sad and a damn right shame that this happened to really good people... but Grand Theft Dolly isn't something we haven't encountered before in our hobby, just not to this scale to my knowledge. Not that I'm saying " alas, cest la'vie "... but, we can try to help and find them. It's all we can really do.

    17. This is heartbreaking and brings tears to my eyes. Dolly theft of any kind, especially on this level, is disgusting. I truly hope these dolls are returned to Volks. Furthermore, I am sure there was security and I think that this is a very sad inccident and not a time to point fingers at who let this happened. Point is it happened and I hope we can all be supportive and kind towards Volks and the people who held the Dolpa and are going through this terrible ordeal.

    18. as some one how has had dolls stolen i know that its unlightly they will be found i really hope that they are tho......i suspect they will hope to find a buyer who will be happy to have a stolen doll just for the rareaty

    19. :/ Mayhaps you should reconsider what you say, from what I'm aware of it's an offense to be in possession ( even unknowingly ) of stolen property.

    20. no i will not reconsider i said thats what they will hope...as this person is obviously an unpleasent sort of person, and that would be what they will be looking for. i know it is an offence ¬.¬ i would never and i am sure none of my freinds will resive stolen goods not everyone is as nice tho
