1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. I've been checking Craig's List a few times a day in the NY/NJ area since yesterday. For them to pop up on there would freak me out being that there's no receipts or anything that could be followed.

Part of me wants to just go out and get a grounded locker to lock my dolls in when I'm away. It infuriates me to no end how people could do this to what people clearly consider precious and dear, especially in this case with how carefully and eloquently they were dressed and positioned. It's like pouring salt on an ice sculpture.

    2. I'm really really tired of nationality being brought into this and other topics for that matter. It has Nothing to do with anything, for one thing no one even knows what kind of people the thieves are aside from obviously being criminals. They could be any nationality or race besides americans.

I'm sure everyone here knows that criminals come from anywhere, from your uppercrust billionaire families to the poorest dump pickers in any country on this planet. Its individual circumstance of those particular people that has anything to do with anything.

Every place has its criminals, its really not right to keep maligning nationalities because of their criminals. If this had happened in Japan(which I do believe it could of) would so many be going "Japanese...etc etc." like they have here about americans? -.- Again assuming that the location makes the origin of the thieves that did it.

I would just really like it if nationality was not continually brought up and slandered because you know, not all americans are dishonest any more than all japanese are perfectly honest. All groups have various kinds of people.

    3. taking into consideration that 1. they cant sell them without detection, and 2. they cant tell anyone about having them. I think it sounds like a serious collector, or someone acting on behalf of a serious collector..... we all feel the same about our own dolls; not saying any of us would steal for them but then we're not 'crooked' in the head either.... just my two cents!

I imagine the relevant auctions sites have been informed, the beautiful thing with this situation is eventually they will get caught out, people don't forget thefts and remain forever suspicious!!

edit to inject humor.... if they were taken by an Aussie you'd find them at the nearest pub and depending on the state with a 1/4 sized VB, XXXX or cascade light in their hand

    4. I have read most of this topic, but not every post, so I apologize if this has already been answered. I know that some of the dolls that were stolen were in FDQ. Were all the dolls that were stolen in that article? Was there a value/ price listed in the article? I just wonder, because if that is the case, that would make more sense for someone NOT in the BJD community to be the thieves.

    5. Wow,

Ebay might be of great help. I hadn't thought about that myself. I was there and when she made the announcement, my mouth hung open, Pat tears just tore my heart. How can they do this????? The night before they were the last ones I kept admiring the most.

I even have some not too straight pictures of them. We were sooooo admiring them, and this is just so sad that someone would even think of doing such a thing. I kept going to that table to see Irvin close up over and over again. I never guessed that anyone would dare.

What a pitty, makes us NY people look soooooo bad!

We will ALL be on the look out, even with a remote chance of a hint, we'll keep in contact with one another and see if they turn up.

      What shame!!!!!!!!:x

    6. I hope they are just misplaced. i told by boyfriend earlier today and now i found a picture of Suigintou from Dolpa and he was glad to hear she was not missing, he likes her very much :)

    7. I have not read this entire thread (and won't), and I am sure there is information about the circumstances that we are not being told, but the fact that a bunch of people had free access to a room that was rented out (I assume) to an event is fairly sloppy on the part of FIT for sure...and a bunch of people having a breakfast in a room obviously set up for an event... what is that about? If it is a regular event to have a breakfast get together in that room, someone (i.e. the facility manager) should have known about it.

However, even though I have never been there, FIT is a school, not a hotel or convention center, and schools in general have pretty poor security. It doesn't surprise me that the facility manager has no clue about who uses their rooms, but they should know who has keys, and if renting out spaces for events, should inform the renters that the room is accessible to any number of people and is therefore not secure.

In any case, if Volks doesn't press charges (and I can understand why they wouldn't), I doubt the police will do much to try to solve the crime. I think if the dolls are found, they are more likely to be spotted by someone in the community, we will be paying a lot more attention that some overworked detective, I am sure.

That being said, it is my hope that people will not begin pointing out random similar dolls and making accusations against legitimate doll owners.

    8. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread (a search hasn't turned it up), but: The other group, who were in the room having breakfast when they shouldn't have been, were in another convention room next door.

Was that room searched? They could have easily moved boxes by accident along with their own things.

I know it seems like a totally stupid question, and i'm sure that's one of the first things Volks and FDQ staff asked about, but i just feel like i should put it out there.

    9. lol, yay for humor injection.

    10. Also didn't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this has been answered/considered, but what is the chance that when those boxes I read about were moved that the dolls weren't simply misplaced?

Surely they would have searched the whole area, but it's worth asking about.

    11. A few questions. (these were ones I encountered when dealing with a theft at a con I was apart of)

They were taken from a room around what time? (like you said over night is it possible that maybe just maybe it was hotel staff?)
Was the room locked how many had keys?
If they were taken by a walk away is it possible that it is a few different people involved?

    12. they were searching FIT. they were searching the dumpsters immediately. they were searching everywhere.

I was hoping there'd be a post that they were just misplaced and were found. no such luck thus far.

    13. I think we're getting a little too excited here. We're coming up with all sorts of theories, getting grumpy and accusing each other of accusing each other...

The fact is, that the investigation and process are going on right now, and any juicy tidbits will likely be kept from us, at least for now.

All we can do is put up our equivalent of "Have you seen me?" signs and keep our eyes open.

That said, I was discussing this matter and the topic of "Why FIT" and "Why not do it at **** next year?" came up.

    14. The dolls weren't in boxes they were taken right off the display, the boxes were left behind.

    15. Pat teaches there and can get the space affordably. You don't want to consider what regular NYC venues will cost them and in turn us. At least I don't.

    16. 1. 'overnight' as stated in the original post

      2. it wasn't a hotel, its a school 'FIT'..not a hotel, not a convention center (as was stated just a couple posts above yours)

      3. Yes it was locked (as was stated all over the thread)

      4. Any thing is possible at this point..there are no suspects as far as DoA knows. considering the # of dolls multiple people seems likely (to me) though not 100%.

all this has been gone over numerous times and could be picked up quickly by reading a few posts in the thread.

    17. Was the Irvin that was taken different in any way, or was it just a display of Irvin (i.e. was he missing a name plate or was he signed as well)? The other dolls are pretty specific, but in a month there will be 100 of them floating around.

    18. Just FYI, there is a difference between "pressing charges" and filing a police report. To press charges, you have to have a suspect -- which, obviously, we don't.

I believe a police report was being filed -- what Mr. Shigeta was saying was that if the person who had taken the dolls returned them voluntarily, he would not pursue charges against them.

A police report notifies the police that a theft has taken place, and brings them in to investigate. Even with a police report, if the person who took the dolls came forward, the Shigetas could choose not to prosecute/press charges/file a complaint against them.

Still very much hoping that they will be returned safely.

      -- A :/

    19. Mikey said they were packaged in their boxes. Not taken off the display which is why it is shocking that they were able to make off with so many without being noticed.

    20. OK, now I'm getting confused. A bunch of pages back someone said they had been packed away in boxes.

Can someone clarify this for absolute certain?

Edit: N/M... the post about Mikey's statement cleared it up..but point is, things are starting to get a little crazy.
