1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Is there an email that we can contact anyone with?I have posted a topic on a doll forum of myspace to help spread the word. This deeply saddens me and I hope that they are found without any harm.

      Best wishes!

    2. This maybe should be in the news post, but I will post it here and leave it to the mods perhaps.

If you see this auction on eBay for an Olivia display doll from NY Dolpa 1 while you are looking for the missing dolls - the auction IS LEGIT.

The reply I got from Pat, which contains information you should know if you find other "suspicious" auctions you want to report -
Thanks for the due diligence! That auction is legit: that is Lisa Scully from Collector's Cottage in Australia, a personal friend of mine, so not to worry. Thanks so much for keeping an eye out. I have been so backed up with the paperwork and phone calls to the school that I have not be able to update our website with any info yet. As the property is Volks' if anyone sees an auction for any of the missing dolls, they should report it to Volks directly but cc me on it, as I may have to take care of the actual contacting of eBay in English.
      Pat's email - [email protected]

    3. Without intending to open a can of worms or step on toes, I don't think a DolpaNYC3 Report Thread would go amiss. Lots of members would see it and could correct or confirm possible leads. And it might help Pat cope in an organised and less stressful way with the inevitable fallout from this event.

    4. I know someone said when they initially heard about the theft, they checked all the trash cans in the area. I want to encourage this to continue if at all possible! Has anyone been in contact with FIT, about any ongoing efforts to find the dolls on campus?

I had an art show about 3 years ago, and I had a work worth a large amount of money stolen. Once the person realized they could not sell it for that, because it was to "recognizable", they just dumped it in the trash, so they would not be connected with the theft. Unfortunately, it was never recovered.

    5. I think this is a really excellent idea - I would hate Volks to get inundated with every single volks auction posted on yj and ebay. Of course we're all upset and we want to help, so anything with big elf ears (as we've already seen posted a couple of times in this thread) will get a "is this it? how about this one?"

So many DOAers are SO knowledgeable about volks that I think this is an EXCELLENT idea.

    6. I am really sad that this has happend :(
I think this could never have been just one person.
carry 7 dolls at your own is just to much...
there has to be at least 2 or more persons to do this I think.
I really wonder what kind of person did this.
a doll collector? or just somebody who learned the same day about the worth of these dolls?
I dont belive they will get far if they want to sell them tough

anyway...I really hope some of them will be found.
I am not good in regonizing dolls...but I try to keep my eyes open.

    7. I was thinking search tag suggestions would be good :daisy... Assuming that the thieves did not know what the dolls actually were, you can use "fantasy doll", "elf doll", "large doll", "lotr doll", "jointed doll" even "porcelain doll" etc.

    8. I wonder if someone could answer these two questions:

      • Were the dolls in their own boxes, boxed for shipping in other boxes, or grabbed right off the display? Reports differ...
      • Since only some of the display dolls were targeted, has anyone taken pictures of the whole display group, or of the individual dolls that weren't stolen? To help us all get a feeling for the thief's tastes, as it were...

    9. *nods and agrees* it really would make thief/thieves think twice before posting on the marketplace here. plus it would spread the news to us DoA members.

    10. i hadn't even thought of Craig's List yet.. :o

      that's true too.

    11. i totally agree with this. if you ever get to meet Mr. Shigeta in-person, he definitely comes off as a wonderful person.. and then some. :)

    12. I live in Albany and think that it would be a good thing to keep an eye on the want ads in the local papers here as well as postings in Starbucks, Panera, ect, that have community boards. You could put up a "Want to sell lot of 7 dolls: $500" with info like you would if you had a lost dog or something. People wouldn't know these are stolen unless they are familiar with the ABJD community. Albany is not very far from NYC, so you never know.

    13. Prehaps I am stupid for posting this,I'm a n00b when it comes to Volks. But I saw on their site that you can buy the new elf Irvin model.
If it is true that he is a new doll they are comming out with then wouldn't it be near impossible for owners who paid their hard earned money on him to post without suspision?

Like I said,I'm a n00b. But it's just like if any other special doll was stolen from a convention, and it the company started to sell that model. Would the doll be banned from posting? Or would you be required to show the back of the head cap?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I feel bad for people who are going to buy this doll, only to be met with anger, when they did nothing wrong.

    14. Why would you be banned from posting, or met with anger?
Because a doll of a certain sculpt was stolen has no bearing on posting a picture of YOUR legally aquired doll.
Now, if you try to sell said doll, people will be asking about the certificate, box and the plaque on the back of the head.
That will be happening, I assure you.
But you are free to post pics, of course!

    15. I think what DN is saying is that the first person(s) who post pics or other stuff about the Irvin they've legally purchased could be met with accusations that it's the stolen one from the Dolpa. She's wondering if they'll be put to various tests (e.g., showing the headplate/paperwork/etc.) to prove their BJD is not the one taken and/or it was purchased legitimately. At least, this is my interpretation.

If this is not accurate, DN, please let me know.

      Jenny

    16. I totally agree. No one is going to have an issue with your doll as long as you keep it legal. All those dolls are absolutely available through FCS or purchase at the event or through the magazine or whatever. That F-29 head is really popular, lots out there with the same ears and everything. Just be sure you don't lose that little plate on the back of the head!

    17. I thought that was what she was saying too.

    18. People are so disgusting - the fact someone could do this...

Let's all hope that the people/person responsible gets caught and the dolls are safely returned.

    19. Well, if someone is concerned about being accused of theft, just add a pic of the back of his head (to show the plate) to any posts, and state why you did that.
      Just an idea.
The one off did not have a plate on the back of his head.

    20. As for many of the doll collectors here I also dont beleve the persion or persions who took the dolls are not collectors & I also hope that they are found soon. I will start doing my part by looking for the dolls on ebay or here on DOA god forbide that someone would try to sell them here I will do my best ^^
