1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. IIRC, "America's Most Wanted" is definitely only for heinous-type crimes against people.

I agree that it's good to have a place to vent about our distress and frustration at whoever stole from people who have done so much to put on enjoyable events for us, but we do need to leave the police work to the actual police.

      -- A

    2. Yeah, one of the things the FDQ people stressed was to find these dolls so stolen merchandise wouldn't get sold. Buying them would be counterproductive, I'd think (unless, by some strange lapse of jugement or switching of hands, the doll's being sold for peanuts).

Phoenix Wright? Well, I'm planning to dress up my Irvin as Klavier Gavin when he arrives, so he can get to work on that. >D Achtung, baby!

      (mmm, peanuts)

    3. I'm serious because if it was someone who stole them to sell on the street, like in Chinatown perhaps, buying them right then would be the only way to get them back. If you waited until you could get the police involved you'd probably never find them again. I meant it in the mindset that I want the dolls returned unharmed. If I lost money in doing so, that would be ok.

Sure the thief would be getting what they want, but if I didn't buy the dolls someone else would. And that person may not be willing to return them, or even know the dolls were stolen. It's not my place to teach the thief a lesson. They should know better than to steal in the first place.

    4. *drool* I wanna see that! I'm going to eventually make a Godot costume. >_>

Does anyone know when we can look forward to info regarding the security cameras, by the way?

    5. That's all the perview of the Authorities. I doubt we'll be privy to anything concerning the investigation as it's really none of our concern. Hopefully we'll hear if something comes up but I'm not counting on it.

    6. The fact that this happened makes me cry a little bit, it feels too malicious, practically a hate crime in my mind. To kick in the shins the wonderful company Volks who brought us these beautiful dolls, a company that genuinely cares for its customers, and so early on in their Doll Parties here, fills me with disgust. I now feel less safe when expo comes around to even tote my dolls with me.

    7. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a hate crime, but it's true that this is a serious case of grand theft that just so happened to involve objects of a specialized hobby. However, I think there's a serious difference between hate crime and grand theft.
      Any updates yet? D:

    8. This is really sad to hear, but I agree that all we can do is keep an eye out for those dolls.

I was at the NY Dolpa last year and it's hard to imagine this kind of thing happening. Scary!

    9. I suppose. It'd still be nice to know if and when they find the dolls though, and if the security cameras end up ratting the person out, or if it was something else. When everything is said and done, I mean.

    10. Has any local dollfie owners in NY checked their local pawn shops?

I think the crook is not a dollfie owner. No owner would dare to steal 7 oneoffs, especially from Volks.

    11. You'd be surprised at what people do when they think they can get away with something. When they have the mentality that " I can do this" they'll grow a set and do what they planned. D:

    12. Let's hope they're idiots ... I keep thinking the Darwin Awards exist because people can be so amazingly stupid. Stupidity would be a blessing in this case.

    13. Stupidity is a factor behind many crimes unfortumately. Its thingking that its easy to get something for nothing. And that no one will notice or care.

It is likely that someone saw the dolls and the price tags and assumed that it would be easy to fence them, not knowing where or how or that there is an active community of Volks lovers waiting to spot the stolen dolls on any venue that might allow the criminals to fence their stolen goods easilly and reap a profit.

Unfortunately, once the criminals involved realize it is going to be hard to unload the dolls for a tidy profit it is unlikely that they will surface in a recognizable fashion again.

    14. I disagree with the idea that the person or group that took the dolls were probably not collectors or doll savvy. I think the thief knew exactly what they were getting. Why on earth would they be at a doll convention in the first place?

    15. Because they were part time staff at the Fashion Institute?

Heck, it could have been overnight janitorial staff if they left the cards with the prices out with the dolls... really... it could be anybody. Doll lover or not.

    16. I know I posted this like 10 pages earlier, but I think its likely that it was someone who knew VERY little about the dolls, like Wee_Little_Faerie said, and they heard somehow that the dolls were worth a lot of money (either from talking to someone there, or seeing the article in FDQ), and stole the dolls with the intent to resell them.

I still hold out hope that once the people realize they will not be able to sell the dolls for a lot of money, they might miraculously reappear somewhere on campus.

    17. How about if people just don't check pawnshops in NY but also put up posters/ask pawn shop owners to look out for the dolls with pictures of the stolen dolls in the shops and around other places (like taped on lightpoles and such)?

    18. I think informing pawn shops to contact the police if they see any of those dolls (give them pictures) is a good idea, but I think posting pictures on poles and stuff might interfere with police investigations. Maybe it would be good to ask permission to do that first?

    19. I just hope they don't get scared and dump the dolls in the trash. That would be just as easy for someone who doesn't really understand the dolls worth.

I do agree though, I don't think it was someone that knew much about dolls. Lets just hope they aren't too hasty

    20. That would be AWFUL, :...( Just the thought of a stuffed animal being thrown out, their little face peeping out from a trash compactor before they are smushed or how they must 'feel' being tossed aside and forgotten :...( much less a DOLLFIE....omg. XDD Remember that Animaniacs short "A Gift of Gold" with the little piece of golden wrapping paper? LIKE THAT omg. :...(

but I can see someone who didn't even understand how hard it would be to resell them without notice doing that, cause they obviously don't care at all about the dolls themselves, or understand what they mean to their owners (those who own dollfies). :|

It also may make America look really bad, like has anything like this ever happened at any of their Japanese events? What a nice welcome from America for when they come here with their beloved dolls and for them to be stolen . :doh
