1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. I agree with that, they will not show up anymore except the police can find the stealer.

    2. personally I think it's just a waiting game, no one is ever going to know what really happened until/if the dolls do turn up. I sincearly hope they do, its such a shame when things go like this. It really shows the apathetic side of human society. Collector or not, the person is a germ.

    3. That makes me so sad that some one would be low enough to steal them ;_; I so hope they get found. I'll pray that they do^-^
also the people/person that stole them will probably wait a while if they are going to sell them and they will probably sell everything separate. D:

    4. Gut instinct tells me that the person(s) who made off with the dolls are probably:

      a) not in the know of the doll collecting hobby

      and that the dolls will

      b) end up appearing on eBay or on some other sales site.

I, too, believe the person who yoinked the dolls is well-aware of the value of the dolls, but would an actual collector be so stupid as to steal so many of those dolls with the knowledge that doll communities everywhere will now be on the lookout for these items?

A collector, to me, would collect dolls and possibly gloat about them and more than likely show them off or share them with other collectors or even later sell them for a profit. I am sincerely doubtful that a collector would snatch 7 dolls only to stuff them into a lock and safe for all eternity to not be seen by anyone else save for themselves.

A regular joe or jane, though, would be ignorant enough about the hobby and would more likely think that "Oh hey, all I have to do now is sell 'em somewhere!" without thinking that doll communities everywhere will be on their tails.

It really REALLY makes no sense to me as to how it would be a collector who would have made off with the dolls, but maybe I'm just trusting collectors to be smart enough to think things through and realize that they're simply screwed over.

Sold on the 'black market', sold on eBay, sold on craigslist (everyone should keep an eye out for their local craigslist postings!), given to kids for presents, or junked when realization hits that people are on the lookout for these dolls is what my feeling is.

    5. I'm sorry but this made me LOL. Unbeknownst to some, there is a REAL WORLD out there where people are murdered by other people, things are stolen and billions of dollars worth of drugs are trafficked. But hey, America's Most Wanted, its worth a shot, maybe someone should call the CIA and FBI too, and perhaps even batman while we're at it.:daisy

    6. I don't think I'm out of line for saying this, but you're way harsh. True, there have been some "out there" responses, but there's no need for your pointed snark.

Especially since it was already remarked upon by an Admin.

    7. Marry me. Please.

    8. its like though when art from galleries gets stolen its generally a collector who needs that piece and is willing to have ti by any means

who knows but is pretty lame that the person/persons have not came forward yet about it :(

    9. I think a collector who had the resources to plan a big theft like that wouldn't take the risk for that small of a pay-off. Yes, the dolls are expensive but in the grand scheme of things, someone who had those resources would also have the money to just buy them.
Personally, I suspect they were taken by someone with no real knowledge of the hobby who realized they were expensive but didn't think through how to sell them. Anyone in the hobby knows how/where to buy these dolls. If someone on the street tried to sell me a doll I would automatically assume it was stolen and wouldn't go anywhere near it. I think most people who are into dolls would feel the same way (at least I hope so).
I suspect the dolls will either stay hidden in some drug addict's room, show up at a swap meet somewhere, or actually even end up being dumped when they realize they can't sell them for the prices posted at the Dollpa.
Very sad. But if it turns out that it WAS a collector/doll person who did it, then that's even sadder.

    10. Well there is another downside to this as well, the thief could be doing there research on these type of dolls and checking out other doll communities like this and may NEVER brag about it, but just sit back and watch all the comments made and such. That in itself is a terrible reality that can happen now too. I hope they do the right thing and return the dolls.

    11. Is it really so bad that people are concerned about a big theft in a hobby that they love? She's just trying to help in any way that she can.

People die, and are killed, every day. That doesn't mean we enjoy it. We just deal with it because it's all we can do.

    12. Perhaps they stole them for attention? Or maybe even to hurt Volks? Maybe they had something against the company or perhaps they hated the fact that there were Asian people there? It may have been something like that, which had nothing to do with the dolls themselves. They just wanted to hurt people?

    13. That is a possibility as well, just to hurt people and gain the attention, it is very sad and upsetting.

    14. I think it's more likely to be an opportunist, who saw the low security on some expensive merchandise, without considering how they might be sold.. They'll find a buyer though, if the price is low enough.

    15. If they just wanted to hurt them, I think destroying the dolls and leaving them there broken on the display table would have hurt far worse than having them disappear, believe me. I've seen it happen to other artists, and it's disgusting and heartbreaking to see artwork destroyed so wantonly and with such malice.

    16. I think you are right.

I find it unlikely that the person just had a vendetta against Volks... It would not make sense to steal the dolls and cause sympathy for the company if they hated them, I think.

    17. 9_9 There are some seriously over the top responses for certain (the one you cited being one of them)... but I'll never fault someone for feeling bad for or wanting to help someone who has had something craptacular happen to them.

Yes, they ARE just dolls. But this is a doll forum, dangit, and this is one of the biggest doll-related happenings we've ever had in this hobby. If you want to be socially active or just vent about human tragedy, there are forums and blogs for that too. (And I don't know why people always assume that people getting upset over dolls means that they don't get upset over normal things too.)

    18. :aheartbea I needed that laugh, thanks heaps. :love

    19. Additionally, this situation isn't just involving people's dolls that reside in the US (not that that makes it any 'better'), this situation involves dolls that belonged to people and a company that resides overseas and were stolen while said members of the company in question were visiting us and hosting an event.

I agree that America's Most Wanted is a stretch, but even though nobody died, that's STILL a lot of money (grand theft if I'm not mistaken, though if I am, please correct me), involves international affairs, and involves the feelings of people whose culture varies from ours and NOT trying our best to resolve things (not saying that the best efforts haven't been put in, because it sure sounds like they have been!) just spells out potential international affairs UGH for me.

I recall going overseas and having something valuable stolen from me (pilfered from my luggage being stowed with the concierge services at their air hotel) at the Korean International Airport and the staff there at the airport were absolutely horrified that such a thing had happened on their grounds and to an international guest no less.

They were more upset about it than I was to be honest and it was more than abundantly clear that they didn't want me to think badly of them as a whole because of such an event.

Personally, the worst of this whole situation is how this might negatively impact future international affairs. Sure, dolls seem like such a small slice of anything dealing with 'international affairs', but even small things can have big impacts.

The staff at the airport showed me respect for both my emotions and for my property and privacy by doing the things they did and if I had been involved in the Dolpa event, I would want to show the same sort of respect by doing whatever I could to figure out what happened and to get the missing/stolen items back.

Sure, America's Most Wanted is a bit extreme, but it shows that people have heart, yeah?

    20. The total of the 7 dolls stolen is grand larceny which is a felon, so whoever did it can face jail time if caught.
