*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Maybe they weren't on? Or they're meant to capture daytime school activity and can't handle low light situations?

... although if that was the case... why check them? XD ... it does seem strange that nothing was on them, unless they weren't pointed in the right direction... or maybe the people doing the stealing knew to avoid them.

Police reports become accessible to the public through the Freedom of Information Act as soon as the case is closed, right? How long do you think it will take them to close this one? Is there a time limit where at some point they just check it off as "lost cause"?

 

I'm sure the cameras were on and work at night. But there were a lot of entrances and exits to that room. They can't all have been monitored. Even in places with incredible security, nothing is airtight.

 

Just wanted to offer my shock and support for this...I hope they find them~ D;

its really all very odd and sad that the dolls have gone

i hope this does not affect volks in the usa and have any knock on effects with volks around the world

 

I cannot BELIEVE this!
Who would do such a thing? And what would you DO with these dolls?
You would run a high risk if you try to sell them on eBay, they're OOAK right?
You'd have to keep them locked away in your house and no one would ever get to fully enjoy them... How dissapointing.

 

Not really, they would just need to wipe off the makeup and separate them from the clothing. Thats something to look for in itself. The molds are not unique one offs.

 

Actually, they would still be unique, as they do not have the Volks gold headplate. Instead the heads are signed by the artists that worked on them. And while one might say that headplates fall off all the time, these are all very new facemolds, so I doubt they could have fallen off so quickly. Well, I think so, anyway

 

so many ideas and theory's. this is a sad business.Please note that these beautiful, unique and very special dolls were destined for a good cause(Make a Wish Foundation)
Maybe consider making a small donation to "make a wish" to show that you care (as that was the intended purpose for the dolls)

 

Rannon-please read the thread a little more carefully. ^^; They weren't intended for that at ALL. That was an idea that it was changed to AFTER the theft. That was never, ever their "intended purpose," and is now an incentive for the thief to return them or for people to turn the thief in.

 

I don't know how people could steal dolls to keep for themselves. For me, they would always be tainted with bad karma and I'd feel sick just looking at them. But I guess that's why I don't steal in the first place. It's just a shame that these lovely dolls will probably end up with someone without a conscious.

 

Well, that sucks. They need more/better cameras.

On a sillier note.... weren't a few of us making lighthearted jokes about making off with one of the dolls as we admired them on Saturday? "Oh, they wouldn't miss one," one of us joked. Of course, we knew better than to do such a thing.

Again, I hope this doesn't become the defining memory of Dolpa 3. We had such a good time.
(And, once again, I hope the FDQ blog updates so that the missing dolls notice isn't the only post-Dolpa report).

Let's let the defining memory be.... the fact that I was wearing the wrong pants on Sunday (no, seriously, I hope nobody noticed what was wrong with them).

 

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's never worth the consequences of stealing anything. I do believe in Karma and even though this is coming from a selfish motivation...I strongly believe in what you put out is what you get back and I only want good coming back to me and my family so I try my best to put out the good and positive.

 

This is just horrible!

I'm new to the community and still getting into the swing of things, but I've admired these doll's for years. I don't see how anyone could do something so horrible.

Not to mention, that I don't think they did it alone. Seven doll's, I can imagine, would be awkward to carry as one person. They must have at least had two, maybe more.

What really makes me sick is thinking that someone must know what happened, and isn't saying anything, either out of embarrassment or guilt.

I'd like to point out to everybody out there to keep an eye on your dolls! This isn't the only doll theft that's happened recently. A dear friend had her DoC Wi stolen at a convention about a year ago. She was crushed. Thankfully it was recovered when she spotted it in an e-bay auction, and recognized some customization she'd done.

So please, everybody, watch your dolls, and watch out for other peoples. Don't leave them with people you don't trust 100%.

That's terrible! Did your friend have to purchase her own doll from the seller on Ebay?
