1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. or the thief just didn't care

    2. They must have known their value, so had some knowledge about BJDs or are really indeed collectors themselves or know collectors. Also it doesn't really sound like a crime of passion? Not sure that's the right term, but if someone just randomly stole something cause it was pretty I doubt that many would have ended up missing. A spur of the moment thing would have been someone grabbing one doll and taking off. Maybe two. For someone to have planned this out (actually having bags ready and available) seems it was well-thought out before the event. I'd have to say possibly someone working there who knows the layout of the building and have been there ahead of time (to actually see things set up).

Even if there wasn't a survillance camera this is a very stupid act and criminals are dumb and will make mistakes sometimes. I say stupid because someone got greedy and took more than one. Someone had to have seen something, suspicious activity, anything. The police should take this seriously though, this isn'y a $50 or even an $100 item that was stolen but thousands of dollars worth of goods.

This makes me sick to my stomach mostly because I feel horrible for Volks. >.< They as many others take dolls seriously, this has to be really heart-wrenching for them, for these lovely creations they made to be stolen like so.

    3. it's so terrible.....I hope those doll can return savely!
      who could possibily do that!!!!

    4. The dolls that where taken were not for sale. I believe someone that attended saw these dolls and wanted them badly, then this person came back (with or with out help) and took the ones that they wanted.

if this is true then we won't see these dolls up for sale anywhere.

    5. Dolpa tickets a expensive and you would have either to have bought from Volks before (to get a member ship) or subscribe to FDQ

      On Absynthe first listed thoery:

mabye it was a hotel worker. Someone who just liked pretty things, or thought they could pawn it for money quick money to pay the rent.

    6. When people steal originals of famous works of art they rarely show them to anyone other than either themselves or people who wouldn't report them. If this person stole the dolls to have in their collection then there is almost no chance that they will be found. :/

    7. No, not all collectors, obviously. Yah, it sounds more likely that someone wants a quick buck.

    8. I'm with everyone, I feel so badly that Volks, a fantastic and very friendly staff and company, would have their own pieces of art stolen. I agree with some of you, I believe it was an "inside job" - there had to be more than one person in on this. It's like someone pick-pocketing you then handing your wallet to a different person so when the person who was pick-pocketed orders a search on you, that person doesn't have it anymore - it's with the other person who took it from the pick-pocketer. I remember seeing that stuff on Dateline >_<;;;;

I hope all the dolls get recovered, and if it did go to a private collection, you know someone is bound to release some photos of them (even if it's an accidental photo with the doll in the background).

I really hope they all get recovered :(

    9. Hearing that not every doll on the table was stolen, just specific ones makes me think of a highly organized theft, like when art is stolen from a gallery. They only take what they have buyers for, and nothing else, because they know they can't advertise these works of art for sale, they are just to recognizable.

I hope in my heart that the dolls get returned, but I have a feeling things will not end on such a happy note.

Sometimes people do things that make me embarrassed to be Human. This act is one of those things.

    10. This really just makes me ill.

I'd feel bad enough if MY dolls or someone else's dolls were taken -- and except for one, mine are all standard-issue, and mostly low-end, well loved, and therefore not perfect.

But for someone to take those works of absolute ART. I was looking at them and my heart was in my throat - some of them are so perfect that it's painful. I can't BELIEVE anyone would have the gall to do such a thing.

      Urge to strangle.

Just... whoever the idiot is, I hope he/she or they just GIVE THE DOLLS BACK.

    11. If those dolls aren't returned (which may happen), is anybody interested in doing a charity from Volks to pay off the loss? I just feel so bad for them right now.

    12. Or they just grabbed what they could get out with them at random.

    13. and a few pages ago people were saying my idea was too far-fetched ;) (not you specifically)
i just thought it was too convenient that 7 very specific dolls walked out of a locked room...

    14. I don't mean to sound unkind here, but Volks is a company, and theft is one of the risks of running a company. I would be very, very surprised if their stock was uninsured, and I am not sure giveing them money will do any good. :sweat There is also a real chance that they would refuse it anyway.

I think the best thing we- as a community- can do, is keep vigilant and hope that the dolls resurface fast.

    15. then why not 8? assuming you have a cart or friends, why not take them all?
if you were carrying them yourself, one more mini wouldn't be hard to manage if you could carry the 7 that were taken..and hey, more money!

    16. I have to agree Guide, plus most likely the dolls were insured. I do think though some sort of Volks appreciation letter might be appropriate since it does cost them thousands of dollars to put on these events in the US and I think it would make them very happy to know that people here cared.

    17. I'm not sure we'll ever be able to figure out the reasoning behind the theft unless/until we find the thief/thieves. It is possible that this was planned by either someone on the outside or someone on the inside, that the dolls were taken at random or specifically, etc etc. No one really knows why people do the things they do. D8

    18. I was talking to my roommate about this and we were thinking, Didn't Volks hire some kinda private security?
in LA, I can understand why they might not hire private since Hotel has security camera and their own security.
but this time they have in school. as a student, I don't trust the security system in school that much though......

    19. Because there's a limit to how many dolls you can fit in a cart or suitcase. I'm just saying it's entirely possible that this was a crime of opportunity, and that the thief just took what they could get away with safely. The fact that all the dolls came from one table and not spread out across several makes me think this. Plus most of the dolls left behind were big ones, which leads me to think it was just a space issue.

    20. This is terrible news. :( I have been worrying for some time that things like this would start happening. BJDs are becoming more and more popular so people now know how much they can be worth. Its very sad. I just hope that Volks and other Asian companties aren't put off by this and decide to not host events in the US anymore.
