1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

*alert* SEVEN DISPLAY DOLLS MISSING FROM NY DOLPA

Jun 8, 2008

    1. Theory:

      An inside Job
*could include employees getting an offer from a collecter that they couldn't pass up.
      *premeditated
*mabye they liked the doll(s) so much they wanted them for their own.

Approach: Check who had access to the room.

      A Hotel Employee
*could have only had room for 7 dolls
      *spontaneous

      Approach: Talk to employees!

    2. I really hate to say it, but this just isn't true. How easy would it be with the FCS dolls in particular to chuck the clothing and wipe the faceup? No-one would be the wiser; they'd look like any other FCS at that point. Augh.

    3. I don't want to speculate on what might have happened. I just wish Volks the best and that they will still return to the US for events.

    4. Aw, this is sad news. I hope the dolls find their way back to the company!

This probably was an inside job orchestrated by a collector and someone who had the keys. A similar thing happened at my mother's school when a janitor stole all the new desktop computers from each faculty member's office.

Theft is so dirty and evil :x

    5. They would be missing their headplates though :sweat. This would be a big tipoff even if their faces were changed.

    6. They may not want to put that much work into that, esp if they know little about the dolls other than their value. And if it was a crime of the moment, getting rid of them may be just has haphazard as taking them.

Plus, they're signed--unless they shave that off. If they want the full value, they'll want to sell the whole thing. With the FCS, yah, they could wipe up, with the One-Offs, not so much.

    7. OMFG O___O
      i would kill the one who steals my doll >.<;;;
      i hope everyone can get their dolls back ;___;

    8. I made a post on the BAd Dolly Deals site, linking to here. Hope that is ok.

    9. Just pointing out, again, that the event did NOT take place in a hotel. It was held at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The event was in a conference room in building D on the first floor.

    10. This is truly awful news!

Art theft is a horrible thing. The poor artists...

My theories echo previous ones though. I hope that the dolls will be found unscathed! They were quite beautiful as were the outfits!

    11. I remember an incident at my university similar to your mother's. A pair of students who were friends with the janitor got the keys to steal expensive equipment and computers from the biology labs.

It had to have been an inside job for sure. I hope the NYPD are working with Volks to solve this.

    12. This is so embarrassing for the American doll community and I hope Volks isn't so put off by this happening that they choose to never have another Dollpa here. Did they really not have video surveillance/security cams in the hotel?

    13. i'm just feeling really sick about this.. like head hurting and stomach twisting.. =>M<=

i hope everyone keeps your eyes and ears peeled not just on Y! J, Ebay, the doll comms, and here.. but also at lesser known auction sites and, for the local NYC peeps, the pawn and hobby shops.

i'm praying that that the person(s) at large will get caught and/or turn themself(-ves) in. =TTMTT=

    14. Big metropolitan cities tend to have a lot of mishaps happen. What's worse is that the people responsible could really be almost anybody. Was there a camera monitoring the displays? Maybe security could check the time between when they were last seen and when they were noticed missing. You know, see if there were any possible openings for someone to snatch them.

And have the police been notified? This is not some simple robbery - if anything, these dolls are quite expensive. Together, they'd make a small fortune. It's a crime, so investigators could dust for prints or do something that will help solve the situation.

And I hate to point this out, but it feels like our American integrity has been put into question. What if Volks decides not to have another DP in NYC because of this incident? I know that none of us would want that. This is really bothering me. :(

    15. As nothing on either this display or the FCS area display had been packed up when I left, I don't know what, if anything, was left out on other displays. However, all of the stolen dolls were from one display...the most remote display at the far end of the hall, just past the FDQ table and, unfortunately, very close to a door leading to the main hallways and that door had windows. Anyone with a key to this room would have found this display by far the easiest from which to grab things.

Personally, I don't think this theft was by any attendees. The notice said it happened overnight. That would lead one to strongly suspect building staff.

What needs to be investigated by FIT and the police is what security was in place and what other folks had access to this room.

    16. I have to say, I would be very surprised if the police have not been called. I imagine Volks would have done that immidiately.

    17. you can't just search a hotel room with out a REASON, aka they have to have evidnce that would point them to that room.

I also find it sad on a whole. Also i don't think that people will see it that badly on us as americans. Sadly things happen and we can only do our best to help. Also we since most of us aren't there we have no idea HOW it happened or WHO could have done it. We shouldn't point fingers even remotly, without some kind of evidnce. It just makes something like this even worse when people do that. I'm also sure the police have been told as who ever owns the building would do so with any good sense.

    18. The dolls weren't picked for theft in a way that would point to being terribly selective. Most were from 1 side of the table, the side closest to the door leading to the hallway. Only 1 was from the far side (the Ruby) and one was from the end. The thief pretty much swiped an entire side of the table. If it was specifically selective, I don't think this would have been the pattern. They only risked going around the table for 1 doll. The 2 Rubys and 2 Garnets were probably the most valuable on the table yet 1 was stolen in a pack of dolls. The Ruby that was stolen was, however, by far the most recognizable of the dolls as her faceup was incredibly unique.

    19. I am so disgusted to read about this happening!

      YES YOU SHOULD DO IT!

    20. THis is just... Whoa!

There has to be more than one person involved. I mean... How can one person take all these dolls at once and not get caught?
