Angel Egg Resin Dolls by Marmite Sue

May 30, 2012

    1. Oh that is sad news! But I am looking forward to seeing what the Moonglass looks like- I am curious as to whether or not it is less or more expensive than porcelain....

    2. I would guess more expensive. The fact that they spent a year engineering it, with lots of trial and error. Also, we don't know what has been added, they could be using really expensive ingredients. I would love it if it is affordable, her dolls are amazing! But I'm pretty resigned to the fact they will cost more in moonglass than in resin

    3. I don't think anyone should give up their hope of getting a resin. She may change her mine at a later date. Right now she is just probably concentrating on this new stuff. I image time is a factor. She can't do it all at the same time.

    4. I think that's true. Plus she is super backed up right now- she has had a doll repair I sent her in September, and let me know she wouldn't get to it until December because of her gallery schedule and the moonglass development- so I think she is just overwhelmed right now- and probably having lots of fun with the new product ;)

    5. Well no new resin news- but her Charlotte Faberge will be on exhibit soon (and for sale I think) http://pickled.free.fr/index_en.html

I wonder if she will do Moonglass or reconsider whether to do resin casts of this doll? I really like the mechanism...

    6. I am so glad now I bought my two faceplates and Pink Dentelle in resin. I am sure someday something similar will be back but it could be a long time and may not happen. I have her unpainted in her box but after Chriatmas she is coming out to be painted. I may even bring her out in a day or two and make her a wig. That should be done before she is painted. I bought the blonde ringlet mohair wig but it is very full and I have some wefted mohair I want to try to do something for her. If that looks good I will order some white mohair for another wig. I have got a bunch of colours for my resin Enchanted Dolls but they only need 1/2 yard and this girl may need more. Even unpainted she is so delicate and beautiful. I love her. Her resin is very white though. Luckily I like white dolls but if you like flesh coloured dolls you may be disappointed.

I checked out the Charlotte Faberge. I can't say I am crazy about her. I like her royal kids better. The mouth on Charlotte is very toothy. They are quite chunky too. Not My taste. Alexei was gorgeous and Anastasia was very beautiful too. I would have loved those two. Does anyone know how much they were? I imagine a lot.

    7. I am not a huge fan of the teeth on the Charlotte one, but I did like Faberge, http://marmite.doll-menagerie.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Faberge.jpg
so I think maybe it is just the way she did the mouth.

    8. Agree on that other Faberge. I like her as well. Her mouth is much nicer. The more recent one looks like she is trying to show us how many teeth she has.

The other problem I have with these dolls is the painted lower private parts. I know they are naked and I don't mind that so much but when you paint lower down it stands out and the eye is drawn to it. I would feel uncomfortable having it on display for my friends and family to see. I will have to figure out what I will do with my resin one. I want her fancy legs on display so I can't really cover that up but I want to cover her lower private area. I don't know how underpants would look. Maybe really lacy small panties. I don't mind the boobs showing. You can't really cover those up unless you had a metal bra type of thing like the silver one I had made for my ED. Dressing or not dressing these dolls is a difficult decision because they are not like most dolls that have a normal body. These bodies are meant to be seen because of all their fancy lace work. I may end up leaving it all nude because I don't really show many people these dolls anyways. Most people don't get why we love dolls. When I tell people I collect dolls, I say I collect antique dolls which I do but I kind of skip over the collectible and BJD.

    9. I do understand that- I actually just make little skirts made out of ribbon or tatting but am always looking for something that blends better. I think the dolls look lovely as well, but the dolls look underage so I don't really want their privates showing :sweat

    10. Does anyone have a Unoa head they can try on one of these bodies? I am not sure of the measurements for the heads so I'm not sure if the 54cm or the 34cm body would work, but I am interested in seeing both. Thank you.

    11. I'm not sure Unoa would work on either of those bodies :( The 34cm Natural and Dentelle bodies are much smaller & more slender then Unoa bodies and the neck is much thinner, and the Marmite and Faberge bodies are pretty chunky and Unoa would look pin headed I think. I can snap a quick pick of Unoa on the Dentelle body tonight but I'm fairly certain it won't work.

    12. Oh, if you don't mind that'd be great. Thanks for all the info!

    13. OK, sorry it took so long, I've been working late a lot! Here are a comparison pic & one with Unoa's head on AE body. Sorry they are not so good, I didn't feel like getting my tripod set up :(

I'ts not as bad as I thought it would be, and with clothes it might look ok. But still a little too bobble headed for my taste. Note that my Lusis is very, very old and yellowed. I'm not sure how newer Unoa resin like fairy skin would compare to Angel Egg resin. I hope this helps some!

    14. Thank you for sharing! I am just so in love with those carved out lace bodies and I am looking for a special artist-like body for my Lusis.

    15. I love her lace bodies too- they are so unique and detailed.

I actually love the faces on her newer dolls too, I think they are as expressive as the Enchanted Dolls (but more attainable)

... I hope that after a trial of the "moonglass" she considers doing resin again. I wonder if "moonglass" is enough like resin that the dolls will be allowed on DOA?

    16. I don't think moonglass will be allowed here. It's a ceramic. But she should not change to Resin just to get on DOA.
LOVE LOVE LOVE her art :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    17. The heeled feet are amazing! :aheartbea

    18. I have the latest resin doll, Pink Dentelle with the lace body and two faces, Milk and Una. I made a wig for Una and also bought the Pink mohair ringlet wig with the doll.

So so right now I am painting Una. I am not sure how I like my progress as I do like how she painted the dolls and there is no point trying to copy that, although I am looking at them along the way. I just do the pastel and water colour thing, not acrylic so I can't do her process. When I feel my face is not too bad I will post pictures unless it is just disgusting. I have done just a few faceups for myself and although they aren't bad, I am not like the professional faceup artists who do the spray thing. Mine will not be as colourful as the prototypes. I prefer a more subdued look. Una will be more light brown and Milk will be more dark looking. The body will be last. The great thing about resin is you can wipe it clean if you hate it. These are the smallest heads I have worked on. Very challenging. Not looking forward to putting eyelashes in. I find that very hard. Maybe mine may not have them.

    19. I did finally get my Blue Rose back from repairs! I had thought about parting with either her or Carousel, but I really can't bear to let go of either. I also tried various skirts and crocheted tops on them, but nothing looks quite right or complimentary. Also, they're size is tricky. I think they just want to be nekkid. So I guess I'll let them for a while (although I'm not ruing out a delicate skirt or top of some kind...)

I put the Angel Eggs in with some of my Sybarites thinking their gold and lace details might look okay with the flashier dolls- but as you can see, it doesn't work at all. They look too child-like and pale next to the fashion dolls. It's weird. Also, crowded. I'm hoping once my Serenade doll comes in, she will blend a little better with this pair. And I actually am on the list for a Moonglass doll, although I have no idea how soon that will be (or even a price range), or what molds she will offer! But I'm sure whatever that doll might be- the aesthetic will probably be complimentary.

Until then, I think they are probably going to need their own shelf. I guess I'll have to pack up yet another shelf or two of dolls n things...

Well until then, here is where they are. Sorry for the clashing styles and for taking a photo in a dark room, I'm sure ONE of these days there will be sun in Seattle and I will be home when it happens...

    20. You are right, the dolls don't work together. Your Angel Egg are all white and delicate looking and the others are dark with bright clothes. Your Angel dolls deserve their own uncrowded shelf to show off. I love those gold shoes. What are they? Are your dolls resin or porcelain? They look gorgeous. Did you thread the ribbons through. I am going to have to do that and am dreading it. I am in the middle of painting my girl and will have to even take out her neck ribbon which came in her. Can't figure out how to spray around it. Will just have to suck it up and pull it out. I hope I don't ruin the ribbon because it is the exact correct length so may be hard to tie it up properly. I was given ribbon to put in the doll so maybe there is extra. I hope so because I would like to use some of that ribbon in the hair. We don't have that ribbon in our city. I do have silk ribbon though so could use it in the hair.

I finished the face on Una. It looks pretty good. I took her to my doll meeting and others thought the face looked good. I am always my own worst critic. Just started Milk. I will paint her opposite of Una and see what look I like best. I might start on the body as I go along. It is freezing here so thank goodness I have an attached garage for spraying or I would have to wait until spring. The spray is too stinky for the house. And unhealthy.
