Angel of Dream - 90cm - Ni, Bo & Primo

Oct 16, 2008

    1. I don't really know what i think of these. The height is one thing, but i don't want to step the line saying that AOD is trying to compete with Soom. Did you notice the way they formatted their images in their first limited? I really don't want to start stirring things (though i feel like i just did sorry)

BUT! On the plus side i'd love to see photos of these! Especially next to a 60cm, man... Sabik made my SD look like an MSD!

    2. What's so Dollzone-ish about it?

    3. I don't like their heads, but that big body sure is tempting! Soom heads are pretty big, wonder if I could put one on there.

    4. I checked the Mecha Angel measurements and the neck is around two centimeters too small to fit on the AoD 1/2 body according to the measurements they posted on their site. I was kind of hoping for the same thing, as I don't like the heads either but would love such a big boy. :(

EDIT: XD I guess I'm the only one who finds the size ridiculously awesome. Yes, it's way to big for me (I'm only 5 ft tall) but that's why I love it! I just wish there were better looking heads for this body. XD I might get him just so people can go O____o while I lug him around at conventions. Not to mention i have a character who is technically a giant. W00t As for the competing with Soom business, maybe they are, but it's not copying. I think they are crazily pushing the limits, but I still think their hugness is stupidly awesome.

    5. Being tall myself ( 5ft 10"), I like the idea of this new doll. But I'm not keen on the heads at all.

    6. Do not want. I recently just got into 70cms and they're such a pain in the proverbials to dress and lug around.
Plus, what the hell are you going to dress it in?

    7. I'm certainly interested in at least looking at this doll. This is one huge boy. I was stunned silent when I first read "90cm." I still can hardly believe it. These might just become a "sit-on-your-shelf-and-admire"-kind of doll as carrying him about would be interesting for even the strongest BJD owner.

No idea if I would ever want to own one--a 60cm is intimidating enough to me!--but maybe some owner pictures would sway me to like their face sculpts a bit more. It's not even the size that pushes me away: it's their faces. AOD bodies are cute, if only the faces would follow. :/

    8. Much too tall for my taste. I'm only 5'1"...that would be over half my height! They are very attractive sculpts, though, especially Jurgis.

    9. I would consider buying. I'd like to see more pictures though. I like 1/2 scale.

    10. Mostly the torso musculature and how the hands are posed and how the fingernails are sculpted.

It's not a copy for those that are sniffing for that. Like i said, I think their production company is servicing a few other companies right now.

Adae Direct Competing and Copying are COMPLETELY different. That AoD is competing with similar dolls is totally within their business rights. You aren't going to stir anything up because they haven't done anything wrong.

Buff Actually for those that want a thicker body, this probably wouldn't be a bad choice. BW would probably match...I'd need to re-look at comparisons to confirm NS.

    11. Yeah, 90cm might just be a BIT too big...

And has anybody noticed, ah... how his manly bits are sculpted? o.O; I have no problem with genitalia on dolls, but for some reason, this strikes me as a bit... weird. :/

    12. I would find a 90cm doll pretty cool xP except a large pain to store and what not. Who wants to carry a yard long bag and try not to hit people lol. Also, if 1/4 dolls are usually as childish looking along side smaller dolls, compare that to a huge doll. It's like the world's tallest person and the shortest man alive. Eh, doesn't float my boat.

Well, I never admired AoD's dolls that much, so it doesn't matter too much to me. If a company outside of China were to make 90cm dolls, it would take me years to save up!

    13. He he... kind of have to agree... seems like they spent a lot of time detailing that! :o
I also feel like he has the inverse of the Mecha Angel issue... his hands are disproportionately huge. And the faces they offer seem too immature for these big guys. I don't know...

    14. Unpainted Ni looks to have some potential, though - his eyes look really nice compared to AoD's other eye shapes. Not as wide or weirdly shaped, and with more sculpting of the lid and such. (I have two AoDs myself, so it's nice to see the eyelid sculpt improve. XD)

    15. Even 63cm was too big for me!
I used to have a DOT T.Lahoo/AOD hybrid and he just seemed like giant to me at a whimpy 154cm. *calculates* He's more than 62% of my height! Oh lawd.

Shipping is gonna be a BEAST for one of these guys.

    16. Wow. I just stuck a yardstick next to my body for reference, and 90 cm goes about to my hip!

Of the AOD bodies, I think this one might be the most attractive, but the whole size thing is really not too appealing to me. I can imagine these fellows being pretty ungainly in handling, especially if you're not particularly strong.

    17. I happen to like DZ sculpts. Just the style I like. (Shrugs) I like the Bo, but he is huge! I'll hold off on deciding if I really like him until I see him in person.

I could see someone modding one to have a Puki Ride INSIDE this huge guy. Like he was a Mecha suit.

    18. Uh... I'm kind of curious why the Jurgis and Nicole discussion got merged with the 1/2 scale doll discussion? I believe Jurgis and Nicole are their 'super' size which is standard 1/3 scale.

    19. He's impressive, but its going to be a royal pain in the you-know-what to clothe this boy.

    20. Why is it that 80 cm doesn't appeal to me, but for some reason 90 cm does? And for the exact reason 80 cm doesn't appeal to me! It's just so huge!

Yeah, I have to say I have never been a huge fan of AOD dolls.

The problem is the heads. I actually think the new wolfman snarling face is more charming than a lot of their sculpts. It looks to have a lot of "emotion" in it.

I go for more beautiful dolls. And I believe that with beauty comes emotion. A doll should be able to have more than one "look." More than one personality. Dolls that just seem to "look" the same no matter how you face-up (this is ignoring mods) just don't appeal to me. (I also tend to gravitate towards face-up artists that can make a sculpt look completely different. I think this is very important.)

But AOD dolls.... Maybe I need to look into them more, but I don't see a lot of the "emotion" in them. Their faces are just weirdly proportioned. I don't even know what it is. But I have seen it in other companies as well. A little too stylized? I don't know.
