Huh. well i thought it was interesting because before settling on Chi, i wanted a head that not only had fangs, but other teeth just *barely* showing. Even if nobody would see it, that's what i wanted. But I bought the head and body separate (the body is from about 2009 and the head is brand new). Huh. See, I never even really thought companies would actually go back and do tiny changes, but maybe they do after all.

 

They do. The moulds need to be re-made with a fair bit of frequency so it makes sense that little changes might get made.

 

I guess so. I've never really thought of it that way before-if anything, i thought it was just so that every few years the sculpt would be slightly different and those differences might make it more distinct from the others. Or something like an update. Iunno. I just don't think about those things too much. But i'm glad my boy has teeny teeth i can paint, even if they're way far back in his mouth!

 

Okay, so I guess I kinda posted something nobody can actually reply to, so now it's time to ask for picspam. I want to see lots of dolls! Any mold is fine, I just want to see AoD MSD's.

 

Hello! Melfina and I are glad to be here! She's an (AOD) Female 1/4 Meng Ya Qi (Opened Eyed Head)

I wanted to ask about the new AOD page. It looks like they got rid of some sculpts and stopped making tan skin! They are having a free head event again until December 31st 2012. I wanted to get a boy Tan Min but it looks like it's too late!

 

I have a tan Min head and saw too late that they'd stopped making the tan resin *sigh*. Doll-Love does tan and I think they're a sister company to AoD but I'm not 100% on that. You may be able to find a Min in the MP when you get access and if you're patient.

 

The waiting is the hard part! I've even thought of dying a white skinned doll someday, but I am afraid I'd mess it up! The tutorials look easy enough, but it's something t think about. The new page doesn't even have Min as an option anymore. When I asked a dealer about it they told me "It's the same sculpt as Chen" but I think they look different. The eyes and mouth really.

 

I'm not a good person to ask about whether or not the Min and Chen are the same as I'm face blind. I quite literally can't see the differences in faces (dolls or people). But, it doesn't make sense that AoD would have two of the same sculpts with different names for so long available on their site.

I've actually got 2 Mins. I was sent the tan head in error (I wanted NY) during the 2008 free head event when I ordered my beloved tan Chi. I eventually got my NY Min and that is now Jaiseki (the Min was originally supposed to be Kijika, but he rejected the sculpt). I may be able to get a tan body for the Min head from Doll-Love but I also think that because the head is from 2008, any resin matching will probably be a little dicey anyway despite the head always being in a closed box away from heat or light.


These are my AoD boys, who are actually all related. Moswen (tan Chi) and Kijika (SD doll, AoD/LE Doll Collab Adonis) are the parents of Jaiseki (NY Min).

 

I don't mind buying used dolls if they aren't chipped/broken. Unfortunately my Melfina has a crack in her ear. I bought her used and she was over a year old when I received her. Anyway my master plan for what dolls to get in the future: My dolls will be a cos-playing BJD group/family who's default/original names/personalities are characters from the anime "Outlaw Star". Below left to right are Melfina, Gene and Harry:

I think a Tan Min would fit Gene, and a White Li Ge would be perfect for Harry.​

An off-topic side doll I'd plan to get would be Jim.

It is a shame that AoD stopped making the ta resin because it was a very nice shade.

Generally speaking, most sellers here are very upfront about any damage that the item they're selling has. I've bought quite a few dolls off the MP here and I've been very happy with the transactions.

 

To be honest I believe her last owner didn't notice it. At first I thought she was dirty, but after cleaning her I could see it was a crack at the top of her ear where the ear meets the head. I like the idea of owning a used doll to give them new purpose, but wouldn't mind a new one either!

 

AOD has a new/updated web sight http://www.aoddoll.net and two new mini's: Ke lieta and Shang Nai.
It looks like they got rid of tan skin and Min all together!

 

My husband let me get two new boys in time for the Christmas "Free Head Event"!
I ordered them on 12/10/12 and they should ship on 1/10/2013!

We have a red wig for when Gene arrives.
Melfina is working on making a turquoise yarn wig for when Harry arrives.
We can't have naked and bald boys now can we Melfina?

 

Has anyone ordered Shang Nai yet? I'd love to see pictures of her!

 

Mysteriousmage is active in the AOD waiting room thread right now, she ordered one! Though it's not likely to ship out until January 10th or so she said.

 

I will for sure post some once I get her! ^_^ she's just so new, so i'm not surprised that no one's posted pictures of her yet.

Can anyone tell me if there have been changes with the Wang Zi sculpt? I bought mine back when he first came out and now I want to get a spare head so I can keep his old lovely face up while making an entirely new one with the spare.

Here is a picture of my boy as he is now.

 

I picked up mine on the secondary market and he's over a year old so may not be representative
of current production but why would AoD modify a sculpt? Is that, in fact, a common procedure?
I would think that if they were to "modify" a sculpt they would also rename it...
