I have a 2020 Xi Shi (not a mermaid) though. So I don't think that's a mermaid only hand-wrist system

 

@skyadmirer can you take a pic of how the hand-wrist looks like?

@bahboh is it just my feeling or the upper part of mermaid body is skinnier than normal 2017 body?

 

the mermaid chest area is the same as the 2017 body. A top that just barely fit on the 2017 58cm body also fit the same way on the mermaid.


On a different note,
Some interesting things I noticed about the 2018 mermaid body vs the current 2020 golden body i just got:
the neck on the 2018 is shorter by like a full centimeter. 4cm vs 5cm (that or the previous owner sanded the neck shorter?? but i couldn't identify any sanding marks...)

I def prefer the longer neck. The Greater Snow SP head I have seems to have a bigger face/deeper neck hole than the White Doe head. So the neck of the blue body seems extra short. I tried swapping the heads, and it seems to be a little more proportional, but the resin colors of the blue vs the yellow are slightly off. I might end up getting a thicker rubber kip to try to make the greater snow SP sit higher on the blue body to show more neck.



but the tail fin bar on the 2018 has a notch that the 2020 one lacks for the elastic to sit in to prevent sliding, which is better in the design perspective. the tail fins on the 2020 one has a tendancy to come apart due to the elastic sliding and pushing the female side tail fin apart even with the magnet which is missing in my 2018 one.
It's a little hard to tell in the photos, but the elastics sits lower in the blue (due to the notch) compared to yellow

 

I was wondering if you lovely people here can help me clear something up? If I order DiaoChan, will I get her on the new body or the one from when she was released? She's from 2015, and the measurements on her page doesn't match the newer dolls.
I've tried mailing AS, but no response yet, and I was hoping to order while she's on sale...

 

I wonder... Does Angell Studio is sealing in some way their offered company body blushing?
Or do I just have to be careful with the doll which has one?

Based on this amazing comparison (thank you, GreenTeaSlug!), I really want my girl on the mature girl body. But communicating that to Angell Studio is like pulling teeth. They said I can have the 62cm body, but I want the NEW one, not the old one. And I'd really prefer to have them confirm that it's the new one before I put down any money... Does anyone happen to have a link to the new one on their website? They have so far only provided me with links to the 60cm one.

 

@Lilanie If it helps, I ordered a XiShi last March. Her measurement according to AS page is 61.7cm. She matches with what she's advertised as. (At this point, the newer girls are 59cms). I believe, your DiaoChan should be as what is advertised on the page you found her.

 

@Lilanie as I know AS bodies have different heights: 60cm, 62cm, 58-59cm. 60cm is the latest one (2020). I have 58cm right now which is the older version (2017). I don’t know about 62cm but so far 62cm is only for older dolls. All new dolls are with 60cm body. 62cm body is skinnier and doesn’t look that good IMO. I browsed their taobao page and didn’t see any other 62cm body except the one they have atm. So whatever bodies that you have seen in this thread are what AS has currently.

 

@Lilanie DiaoChan will come on the old body, with the measurements advertised. I had my dealer ask Angell Studio once about putting different heads on different bodies and Angell Studio told them it wasn't always possible, because the faceplate-style dolls can only go on the bodies made for them, and the head-and-headcap-style dolls can only go on the bodies made for them. All the new dolls & heads are the head-and-headcap-style. DiaoChan is faceplate-style, so she can only go on the older bodies. For whatever reason, her head doesn't work on the newer bodies because of the different style.

 

I ended up buying Caroline specifically so i could get the new 2020 body. Whether or not i'll keep the Caroline head is another question.

GreenTeaSlug posted a new 62 cm doll, though? Which basically looks like the 60 cm, but with a thigh joint.

Wow, that's complicated. :/ They sounded like they were willing to put her on a new 60 cm body, though...

 

@Lilanie that’s 60cm body. The 62cm body in her photos is the 1st one. I think you misunderstood the 58cm body and 60cm body as the old 58cm body doesn’t have thigh joint. As you can see the heads of 2 bodies are different in size. She said they can be put on those bodies but the proportion isn’t right.

To be sure which body she will come with I think you should ask them to send you a photo of the nake body. It’s faster to ask through an agent. I couldn’t communicate well with Doll Chateur on taobao so I asked Alice and they quickly replied me back with photos taken in real life. Or ask them if her body is the same body as Lishishi, Caroline, etc. (any new doll).

As far as I understood, from left to right: New (2020) Mature Girl body (60/62cm) - old body (58/60cm) - new body (58/60cm)

@lilaine forgot to mention, 61.7 cm is with flat feet. With high heel legs, she becomes almost 64 cm I am not sure if you are still allowed to order separate heel legs separately or not. But, do ask them about it. (In March 2020, I was allowed but someone posted late 2020 and said she wasn't allowed to do that. Just email and ask AS if you want the high heel legs ).
