Another Artist Using Doll Likenesses Without Crediting?

Yup. Besides, it would be very bad for Kickstarter if scammers were able to get the funds after they were caught. The whole point behind crowdfunding websites is trust. Nobody is going to give another dime if truth came out that people could get away with this behaviour. Kickstarter could pack their bags.

By the way, I was interested to see how long it takes to transform a picture the way he does and although I'm not nearly as talented as Mr. Nelson when it comes to knowing your photoshop filters, it couldn't have taken more than 5 minutes to make something similar. Ah, if only life would be that easy.

I'm glad the majority of the pictures have been taken down-- a few more to go, and lord knows what else is stolen on his facebook 'profile-art'. My guess is a good chunk of it. He's keen on deleting things, as most people are when caught in things like this. Painted indeed.

He should have thought about what impact this could have on his career and reputation and his family before he started trying to make money off of someone else's work. He's an adult, he should be capable of thinking his actions through.

 

Did anyone else happen to notice his views per day on his DA before it got taken down? He went from one or two per day to around 5000 yesterday alone XD

I've drafted a note to Sucker Punch games (the developers behind Infamous2) and alerted them to the situation.
I'd try and stay quiet to the store carrying his comic and the comics facebook page for a bit, let sony/suckerpunch step in with their lawyers and handle it.
If we chase his comic off facebook and off the store before sony/suckerpunch can act, we lose the chance that he'll get what he really deserves - a lawsuit.

 

A game is made. That is, if the moderators don't think this is going too far .

I was kind of shocked to see his real work, though. I don't know, I guess I was hoping that, if he'd just let go of copying other people's work, he'd be able to continue making a living as an honest artist. Not to be rude, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

 

I understand that the slander and rude comments should be toned down, but does this person really deserve your guilt? He's slighted a LOT of people - angering an entire community is quite the accomplishment - and doesn't seem to express remorse for his actions. he's complaining on facebook and talking about how bad his day was. his reactions to this are immature and selfish, and I'm just a little surprised that anyone is willing to give him some kind of benefit of the doubt.
just my two bits. even if I was poor as shit I wouldn't steal the work of others to run elaborate kickstarter scams. I think he needs to learn his lesson...

and yes, for reference, doing that to photos literally takes about 5 minutes. art theft is a terrible epidemic, and if someone volunteers as en example, he should be made one. I think we're doing that. good job everyone!

I, too, feel proud to be part of this community right now.

I can't believe his fans never caught on. He has an image on his Facebook which is obviously a photoshopped picture of the One Ring from LOTR, with a comment about how the elven script made his hands cramp up. Then there's a comment from someone else saying how she thought it was a photo until she read his comment. To which he replies what a great compliment that is.

Makes... my brain... hurt!

The game still needs to be approved by the mods .

I don't feel guilty. I was just shocked in a "woah, didn't expect that!" kind of way. He presents himself really well, and that kind of... confidence (?) almost made me believe that he had actual skills. This stealing should stop (although I don't think he'll ever learn his lesson).

There are quite a few people out there who don't know that it is illegal to take a picture and modify it to new 'work of art'. Maybe his fans thought that he was tracing the pictures from movies (like his Calvin and Hobbes icon) and that it was okay.

 

I think it has to be approved by the mods first before it appears on the forum. Though I could be wrong. It hadn't appeared yet the last I checked.

I Disagree it took 5 minutes to do the Photoshop manipulations, and I Ask everyone to not disrespect Honest people whom do use Photoshop as a medium.

I think we should focus on his CRIME, stealing the art work of others.

 

I actually do use photoshop as a medium, and as someone who uses photoshop as a medium I know that it takes 5 minutes to run filters over an image. so, yeah, he really isn't trying at ALL.
