1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Another Artist Using Doll Likenesses Without Crediting?

Mar 5, 2014

    1. Here is the Facebook evidence mentioned earlier (thanks, teacupdreams!:

So he's saying that HE took an interpretation of a 3 dimensional doll....? That would mean he had to have the doll to do so...wouldn't it?*_* Was he in the room with those dolls? Does he own any of those dolls? (Umm...no...) So how does he think he got his interpretation of them....without ever seeing them?

      Easy...he didn't.

Umm...he just is getting himself in deeper and deeper....and must not really have any real grasp on what it takes to make "art" or realize a photo of a doll is someone else's interpretation of that doll.

    2. It looks like a site that shares information on Kickstarter projects.

    3. [IMG]

This makes me sick. Like he's trying to encourage himself even though he's not the one who needs the encouragement. He deserves everything that's coming to him after all this thievery and deceit he's been involved in. I hope he gets sued into oblivion. Maybe that's the only thing that will teach him a lesson. Obviously a "soft" warning (his first DA ban) didn't work... so maybe a lawsuit will open his eyes to why this is so wrong and why we as a community of artists and hobbyists who work hard at our craft are so disgusted and angry.

    4. I found a couple of the original artists via his stolen wildlife photos-- the jaguar and the owl pieces-- those artists have been notified. There's a lot of Pokemon on there too. Our friend here can make all the bolstering posts he wants, but that doesn't change the fact that the original artists (several of whom are on here) have been notified and can pursue legal action. As long as the word is spread to the interviewers and funding sites and his publisher, he won't win.

    5. I think people should stop linking to laughinggurl's journal--there's nothing wrong with it per se, but it likely seems bad to an outsider. LOL'ing about catching an art thief and ruining his rep is biased and sounds unprofessional. Might I suggest linking to Sumiko's article or someone's calmer Tumblr post instead?

    6. Excuse me, with all due respect... LaughingGurl has brought so much attention to this scam and art theft all over DeviantArt. Please don't put her down just because you don't understand her. She "laughs". She's called the "Laughing" Gurl for that reason. It's part of her persona. She has over 900 Watchers, almost 200 more on her Group, and many people are spreading her Journal all over DA. Here are the views of her Journal since posting it in only 2 days:

Please keep in mind that not everyone is on DA to be a "professional", but also young people who are there to have fun, and we communicate in our own way.

We also have some members, like "jessienude", who posts mature content, but she has over 5000 Watchers... and that helps to spread the word on DA.

Not everyone is the same. Please, don't judge. We're here to help, since we too are artists and deserve to be heard. Thank you.

    7. False alarm. Kicktraq is just a site that tracks the progress of Kickstart projects, and whether or not the goal has been reached. It doesn't report when projects have been taken down by Kickstart nor if they have been put on hold.

Repeat, this is not a new attempt at funding, it's just a tracking site.

    8. Then kickTAG doesn't exist? Nevermind then.

    9. he could not have picked a more suitable title for his book though - Oh the irony!

    10. livelaughlove, I'm sorry! I genuinely did not mean offense. I just wanted to point out that the tone might not win us points. Yes, I understand that she's brought attention to the issue; what I'm saying is that execs at big companies like Disney might not take us seriously if we link to someone's blog titled "Art Thief EXPOSED!" saying things like "shit has hit the fan!!!!" and "It's exciting!!!" To an outsider, it sounds incredibly biased and maybe even rude! Remember, Disney execs, Kickstarter people, copyright lawyers--they don't know her persona, they just see that kind of tone and then hear his claims of liars, read comments harassing him, etc. and we lose points. There's nothing wrong with the journal itself, but I don't think it should be used as the primary source when we're trying to talk to outsiders about the issue. I don't think me first post came off as very clear... I just think we need to exercise all sorts of caution when we're dealing with this stuff, because we don't want it to bounce back and reflect poorly on us. Does that make more sense? I'm honestly just wary of linking much to dA at all because of all of the comments that weren't meant as harassment but could easily be twisted to sound like harassment.
I'm really bad at explaining myself so if there needs to be any clarification, please tell me! Tl;dr I just think we need to exercise caution with what we send the bigwigs in this matter because we need them to take us seriously and not come off as a huge Internet community ganging up and bullying some poor dude for a couple little mistakes, because that's not the case.

Ninja'd: when I said "linking to" I meant when we send "sources" of info to outsiders to inform them or get them on our side in a legal sense. It's definitely a good thing that laughinggurl and others like her have gotten the word out.

    11. I got an email this morning from youtube confirming that they've removed his video on youtube that consisted purely of our stolen photos so there's that taken care of...

    12. oh yea, really?!?
too bad, as we can see, Mistral is happily with me <3

      ah, by the way:

      and "his illustration":

today is the day three, the direct link still works and any mail/news for FB to my report >____<

    13. I don't think it's from one of mine. I don't recognize it.

This is just plain laughable. I don't remember anyone beside me on the mountainside making sketches when I took that photo of my three dolls in Waterton Lakes. LOL My husband and I were the only ones there. His interpretation of a 3-dimensional doll???? It was super windy, so even if he had been there, sitting right on top of me, the chances of every blade of grass and the doll's hair and cloaks being exactly the same in his "painting" are less than none. It's so obviously just a PhotoShopped version of my photo.

    14. Hey, folks - wanted to give you a heads-up regarding the game thread started as a result of this matter. I didn't activate it. There's already a game for playing with and enjoying Photoshop (and other software) special effects:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?139179-Artistically-Photoshopped-Photos

I really am not sanguine about a "game" thread started as a place to vent anger and sarcasm. What this guy did does suck, but that's due to him and his laziness and his other assorted emotional self-justifications, not something Photoshop should share the blame with, and our enjoyment of playing with it put down and diminished.

I'm sorry if I've disappointed some of you, but do hope for your understanding.

    15. The quote/threat actually sounds like a DOLL OWNER or other insulted artist threatening to both sue Nelson for the original crime (it says "I will see him in court") and to sue the owner of the blog because the blog owner didn't take down their original interview (even though they are including the information about the IP theft).

That is the kind of crap we don't need. Don't harass the people this guy duped into thinking he is a legit artist. They are doing what they can, within reason, to spread the story.

    16. Ooooh! I get it now. That's crazy! How was she supposed to know he was a con-artist? If she takes down the interview, it's just erasing more of the evidence. That's what Mr. Nelson wants, apparently... since he keeps taking down all incriminating photos. Poor girl, like many others, is just a victim of Mr. Nelson's scam.

    17. Exactly, if he has said he's flat broke how can he afford all this legal help? He wouldn't have a leg to stand on. He was caught and exposed, now he's reacting in the only way he can.

      *coughShiaLabeouffcough*

    18. I just want to say how incredible it is to see so many people supporting and protecting each other and their work. It makes me proud to be a part of the bjd community to see people pull together like this!
