1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Any famous collectors of BJD's

Apr 18, 2008

    1. If I had been drinking my water when I read that, it would be all over the screen right now. Holly Black!? I got into her Tithe book long before I knew about the Spiderwick series... I love how she keeps to the real faerie folk lore. ^_^

I would love to see her doll collection! :aheartbea I don't know, she always seemed like she'd be such a cool person to meet. I wonder if she is? Now I know that if I ever get a chance to meet her, I should bring Sanyu with me. ^_^

    2. I circled the spiderwick table at the Philadelphia Faeriecon.... but I was enjoying eavesdropping so I didn't actually try to talk to anyone...

Holly Black amazes me. I'm sure she's a pretty fun brain to pick ;)

    3. (was at the moment reading some of Koge Donbo's work) :o :D Wow! I never knew that. Hahaha, another reason to like her instead of just to like her for her manga.

I'll go check if she still has the pictures. :) It would be very interesting to see if she has any to look like her characters.

And one person I wish had atleast one BJD: Stephenie Meyer (author of the Twilight series and The Host) I mean SERIOUSLY, I would love to see what she could do to get a doll to look like her own image of Edward Cullen!:aheartbea (Edward Fangirl Alarm Goes Off and Baby_Bat gets hit with millions of water balloons)

      :kitty1

    4. Wow... I didn't know Mercedes Lackey was into BJDs. I knew that she's a big bird person (I'm a bird freak myself, my little parrot is on my shoulder as I type that) which I always thought was cool and lent a lot of insight into her portrayal of gryphons and dragons. That's pretty fun to know!
I would be really excited if Marilyn Manson was actually into BJDS... mainly because I would want to see the faceups he would do. I love his paintings.

    5. I'm not sure if anyone knows them but.. A couple of Korean singers have BJDs, like Seung Hwan Lee and Tony An (From H.O.T). I know that a fan gave Tony a Ninodoll Anna head on a boy body as a gift (the doll resembled him quite a bit).

    6. She's very fun to meet... absolutely nice in every way. She came to a very small venue in Michigan, and was willing to sign as many books as we brought her (I only brought one... I would have felt bad giving her a hand cramp, lol!)

It was great, because there were a million kids, then me and my 2 friends (all of us over 20), LOL.

I know she had a hound... other than that, I dunno.

    7. Okay, I admit I had a total fangirl moment when I heard that Holly Black collects BJDs. She is absolutely one of my favorite authors and I buy anything I can get my hands on that has been written by her. :D I love Mercedes Lackey, too, but I mostly enjoy her novels of elves (especially the modern-day elves that drive race cars).

Ahh, I wish I'd been able to attend Faeriecon this year, but by the time I found out about it, it was too late to go. But if Holly Black ever holds a book signing anywhere near here, I'm totally bringing my BJDs with me. :aheartbea

As for Amy Brown, I love her art. I collect faeries and such and I have a number of her prints. I was thrilled to find out she collects BJDs, as well.

    8. ..........

    9. ok, trawled through what i think is koge donbo's blog.

page 52. mentions a doll, tiny photo and has a link to volks. i dont know what it says. i tried to translate it but the translation made no sense

      enjoy

    10. OMG It's Apollo kyaaa~~~ *swoons*

    11. I don't know if anyone has noticed this but all the singers so far that I have seen that has given high exposures to the dolls like those two japanese singers and Kali...they seem to be re-enforcing a stereotype that people who collect these dolls are gothic or lolita in some fashion and present the doll in an eerie fashion and in some cases, appear to have a bit of mental problems. Even in the fashion shoots they were presented as broken and eerie.

Now, it is my belief that there is no way this hobby can become a mainstream one as long as there exists this stereotype that these dolls are creepy or that doll owners are not normal people. And if this hobby became well known, we'd have the stereotype stuck to us, and God knows that whenever any of us go to meet, people are uncomfortable with us and think we're weird enough already for having the dolls.

    12. I think if a big star fell in love with them it could ruin the hobbie. All of thier fans would get obsessed because the star is, not because they actually like them. I think I like having a more unique hobby. :)

    13. If you've ever seen Stevie Nick's drawings, I would be very surprised if she wasn't into bjd. And if she isn't, she's definitely a potential recruit ripe for enablement!

    14. I personally have no problem with having more mainstream hobbies. As long as it doesn't become like anime, where there's a whole negative stereotype of "anime freaks", or should I say "BJD freaks". Like if you mention them the response is "oh, those creepy gothic dolls?". But I collect other dolls that could be considered kind of more mainstream, and having more knowledge about BJDs out there can't be all bad. I also don't think a lot of people would be interested in spending so much money and taking care of them like that, it's just not ever happening. Can you imagine a celeb sitting in their room caring and dressing a doll? Not everyone is "that" type of person. BJDs won't ever be considered widely as "cool" XP

    15. That is so awesome!

    16. reading her books got me my nickname/screen name when i was in high school. and i was picked on for reading fantasy too, well i was made fun of for reading anything really :sweat i kept toying with makeing a set of grays for my girl, but people have been saying mrs. lackey doesn't like 'fanart' and i'd hate to do something she didn't like. i remember reading about a member of my chemical romance owning a bjd, though i could be remembering that wrong XD it was a band like them i think. sorry i haven't paid attention to popular music for 4 or 5 years now *_*

    17. Yep, Mercedes is definately one of our members here on DoA :)

And, I don't know if he owns dolls or not, but Jui from the band ヴィドール finds them "interesting," and "really cool." I know that much at least, because that's what he said when he tried to snatch my El away from me LoL!

    18. Um...Hi!

Yes I'm over here and I have....golly, too many. First it was one Obitsu Haruka, then an Obitsu Gretel, then I decided I really needed to do the Secret Worlds characters as dolls and scraped up enough for a LinLan for Seraphym. Then I thought it would be fun to have a contest for dolls done as Secret Worlds characters, and Emory at Junkyspot got involved and Mo was such a perfect Victoria...and I had to have one of those. Then of course I had to have John Murdock and Red Djinni (of course, I am SO good at justifying these things). And I figured I would never be able to get a blue doll for Bella and then Bobobie started offering ALL their dolls in the colored resins...and then I just *needed* Astra and her twin Aedan...and then I got gifted with a DZ BB....and the head I got for JM didn't really work out so I rehomed him on an Obitsu boy (and although he is my gypsy Peshta he is going to eventually cosplay Vanyel). And I got gifted a Wing head, and clearly you just can't have a floating head, so I got the body and that's Robin Goodfellow. And then OF COURSE he had to have a lady, a DZ Orlando (Lady Amethyst). And the Bobobie MSD elves were so affordable and so adorable I had to have an Ariel (Moth) and a Sprite (Cobweb) and then I got gifted with a little pink Nissa (Violet) and darling hubby Larry got me the new litte Fennec Fox (I forget who that's from).

      So....yeah. A lot.

The best sculpt for a Vanyel I've ever seen I think is Iplehouse Lion, although for a more serious Vanyel Elfdoll K would work really well too. But for Firesong? Well on the one hand Yukinojo would be perfect, the mere thought of modding anything that expensive with SCARS gives me hives. So I would be inclined to snag something less expensive and somewhat along the same lines.

What I would like to do for JM is a minimee head of Eric Bana, because that is who the character is actually based on, but I am sooooo disorganized I could never get a GO together or coordinated and the fun money is just not in the budget to do it on my own. Roof repairs, car repairs, and holy frijoles gas prices! *sigh*

As for fanart of all sorts, I LOVE fanart. Fanfic...well, ok I started out writing fanfic myself. I am totally in favor of it....but my agent hate hate hate hates it with a total and undying passion. And I am not allowed to look at it, much less read it, for fear of claims of plagiarism later (as happens with just about every writer with any prominence) and possible actual legal problems (as happened to Marion Zimmer Bradley), so....just don't tell me if you're doing fanfic.

But dolls? Oh baby, bring it on!

I just got a new camera and haven't had a chance to take any really good pics of the Secret World dolls but here's Robin surrounded by his court.
