1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Any famous collectors of BJD's

Apr 18, 2008

    1. I had to show my Dad this thread to get him to finally believe me. He turned me onto your books when I was in middle school, and thought I'd been kidding him about you being a member. But since then he's taken more interest in my dolls, and has not-so-subtly been bugging me to come up with Grays for the whole lot.

This. Dad's been waiting to read this book for years.

    2. This is all so cool! I can't find Amy Brown's dolls though. Does anyone have a link?

    3. I don't know if this person was mentioned, but if you're familiar with anime/mangas you may know this artist Higuri Yuu (gorgeous artworks). I found her site years ago and saw BJDs for the first time and didn't know what they were at the time lol This is a direct link to her doll gallery and for a long time I thought they were called KiraDolls but I couldn't find any info on them at the time.

    4. This! OH PLEASE do NOT let Anne I AM GOD Rice collect ANYTHING I like. I would be morally obliged to sell, just because I so disagree with her interpretation of the Universe.

If you are in the yaoi community, Asia Watanabe, the mangaka, is a fervent collector of bjds.

    5. I saw on Junky Spot that Mercedes Lackey has her Whispers and Sighs collection-- some really pretty chokers and headbands. I wondered if she had any BJDs of her own, and now I know the answer! So cool!

Honestly, I'll always think it's kind of cool to find out a celebrity/more famously known person of great talent/ whatever you want to call it-- has BJDs or just likes the hobby. They're regular people too, and it's always nice to meet a fellow enthusiast.

    6. I know that Robin Williams is really in to anime and video games - the man named his daughter "Zelda" for crying out loud. not to mention he has a major love for Evangelion, and was way behind the live movie project back when it was still a possibility. or atleast, that was the rumor. I would imagene he might at the very least KNOW ABOUT abjd. but it would be really cool if he had a few, or maybe his kids...

    7. I personally would be overjoyed if Gwen Stefani got into BJD- she was one of the FIRST mainstream stars to bring Japanese culture into the mainstream with her, and I think she's an amazing artist and musician. Anne Rice on the other hand- although undoubtably talented, did have that whole fiasco with Tom Cruise, which came off sounding to me as though somebody forgot that she wasn't the biggest thing since sliced bread... I don't really know or like what it is that makes some celebrities 'more' or 'less' worthy to collect BJDs than others, but I have to say that we need to remember that this is still a niche hobby- and any publicity in the mainstream is probably a good thing to go towards dispelling the negativity generally associated with doll collecting. Just saying. I know a bunch of you don't care what others think and so on, but I for one would love to see these beautiful dolls accepted as the art form that they really are.

So kudos to Gwen Stefan AND Anne Rice for liking something that other people may have not learned to accept yet- and shame on those of us who like to forget that we too like something out of the mainstream- so obviously we're not going to be perfectly informed either. <--- reference to someone's comment about Gwen Stefani "mispronouncing more Japanese words" FYI- have you seen how many non-Japanese people on this site name their dolls in Japanese and refer to them in pseudo Japanese phrases incorrectly? I'm no expert- I'm not Japanese either, but it is my minor at College, so I have to say, I can at least spot blatant westernization of it when I see it. Naming your doll Kinko or whatever because you heard that kin means gold and ko means child, doesn't make that an actual name- or even sensible- that's a bit like naming your doll Prudenceson because you heard that prudence means 'prudence' and son means 'son of'....

*****Sorry- I know this was several pages back, but I really felt the need to respond >.<! I always show up late XD

    8. I mentioned here before I think that the manga artist Koge-Donbo* collects bjds...

but recently I found it funny that in her blog she was fangirling over a newly released doll...my japanese is crap tho so I'm not sure what kinda doll it was...looked like a volks to me but yeah. I just found it funny that even the famous people get giddy when a new doll comes out.

    9. I never made the connection between you and your books, Victoria! Wow. All I knew about you were your dolls and convos here and at 13Doll and JunkySpot.

    10. Will have to watch the movie just to get a glimpse LOL

    11. Actually seeing you were on DOA made me decide to read your books...I now own the entire Obsidion Trilogy (and the following trilogy) as well as the 500 kingdoms series. (Although I have read Marion Zimmer Bradley for more then a decade now)

    12. And the hubby BUYS dolls for me! He just got me the new Impldoll Heloise Mechanic, so I can have an SD size Waitron9000 as well as the MNF size Machina version of Waitron. Desktop and laptop?

Ann Rice used to collect dolls of all sorts--she even had a custom Lestat--but she gave half of them away and sold the rest when she moved to California and didn't have that huge house (it used to be an orphanage) to display them in. She didn't seem at all interested in customizing the ones she had, so I am guessing she wouldn't be interested in BJDs unless they were fullsets.

    13. Wow, I bet she had some interesting ones - probably some great old french fashion dolls in the bunch -- would love to step back in time and see her collection!

    14. That was a very cool video, somehow reminded me of the unseelie parties from the Holly Black novels hehehee

    15. Kerli is great. I liked her before knowing she's into bjds, but that adds even more to her allure.

    16. It's amazing to me how adamant some people are for certain celebrities to NOT get BJDs. Who are we to say what hobbies other people are allowed to enjoy? I agree, it could be bad publicity for the whole hobby if the press decided to mock a celebrity for having dolls, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't own them if they want to. Live and let live, I say.

Have you seen the Iplehouse Bichun? He looks like he could have been the model for some of the illustrations of Firesong (particularly the one of Firesong, Need, and An'desha). Of course, I never picture him as buff as the EID bodies..

    17. Previously speaking about music video's... I think there might be a BJD in Kerli's "Walking On Air" music video? 83
Or, I might just be crazy... XD
