Any famous collectors of BJD's

Apr 18, 2008

    1. I am not sure if someone mentioned this, but I remember the authors of Rozen Maiden, Peach Pit, own Volks dolls which did become the inspiration for Rozen Maiden!

    2. Alodia Gosiengfiao is a collecter. Not really surprising though (>ω<)

    3. No, those were OT Tonners. I remember seeing them for sale.

    4. Wiishu has been doing his best to convert SF authors and artists (and fans) at conventions, and most are totally fascinated. Here he makes a conquest of Peter S. Beagle of The Last Unicorn fame. Peter adored him. I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't seduced over to the resin side. And CJ Cherryh has done a couple of fancy faceups on anthros.

    5. Not strictly BJDs but apparently Johnny Depp collects Limited Edition Barbie dolls, especially celebrity dolls and he put an ankle bracelet on his Lindsay Lohan. (source article from July 31 2012 The Express Tribune)

    6. When I was still active in the Barbie collecting world, I would sell at doll shows, and Demi Moore would come to the shows and buy dolls. It was rumored she had a huge doll collection. I wouldn't doubt that she collects BJDs too.

Not all celebrities are like that. It's only a handful who get in the news who behave that way. I worked in theater and television for 40 years, and most actors and actresses are fairly normal nice people.
I do know from personal experience (see my previous post) that Demi Moore collects dolls, but I have no idea how many or how she treats them. The media and the press tend to exaggerate things for the sake of pure sensationalism. It's sad that so many people assume those exaggerations are gospel truth.

    7. I'd really like to see Micheal Moorcock himself shell Elric of Melnibone. I have a feeling he wouldn't want to do that, and sooner would want to see how someone else shells him. Oh, and time traveling to past George Lucas and getting some pre-casting Star Wars head-canons out of him. A BJD fullset of ...anything as long as it's sculpted and clothed by Yoshitaka Amano. Can you get arrested for forcibly making someone build a doll? XD

Edit: You know, come to think of it though, even if a celebrity I don't care for or who wouldn't care about the dolls collected, I'd wanna see what choices they made for their dolls. Limited hoarding for the sake of owning though. Argh... I hope the fulfillment of sitting on a pile of hoard makes them /darn/ happy. Cause it sure as heck wouldn't be busy making other more appreciative people happy.

    8. You're probably right that he wouldn't do that, since he seems fairly indifferent to most adaptations, and has referred to some of the more bjd-aesthetic artwork as "over-romanticized*," but it would be interesting to see what he would actually select as the "appropriate" sculpt, since art of his characters tends to be so varied. (I have seen a couple of takes on Elric, with varying degrees of "accuracy" to the original character, and will admit that my own in-progress Arioch was originally very loosely based on his character of the same name as well.)
